The knees are an important part of the body but can be damaged easily during sports. During baseball and softball running is a main part. Knees absorb 2-4 times the impact of the runner’s body for each strike of the foot when running or doing other physical activities. Knee health depends a lot on the weight of the body, the intensity of use along the natural setup. The human body is made to run 20-22 miles, after the runner reaches mile 21 the body starts to work off muscles and other alternative fuel sources. In addition, the kneecap floats on top if the joint and protects the knee from bows but does not provide strength or stability. The knees rely on ligaments and cartilage for support but ligaments heal very slowly and cartilage does not regenerate naturally. Imagine a ping-pong ball stuck to a wall held in place by rubber bands that is how the knee is set up.

Sports has always been a huge part of my life. I would be the one team player who took the sports season a little bit too seriously. I was the number 1 doubles player on my school's JV tennis team. Unfortunately, I fractured my ankle during my junior year and wasn't able to play with my team. I was devastated, but I didn’t allow myself to become disconnected from my team. I became the team manager to allow myself to still play a role in my team, despite my injury. I would record scores to my division leaders and take pictures to post on the website I created for my team. After the season was over, my doctor told me my ankles required surgery to become fully healed. I knew that meant I couldn’t continue to play tennis, but I didn’t want to give
Softball is a growing sport for girls within the United States. Whether you are an 8-year-old girl, to a senior in college softball, it’s a sport that many are attached too. A new form of hitting came into play during the 2005 Women’s College Series. Slap hitting is a new form of hitting that changed the way the game of fast-pitch softball is being played. Slapping changed the way coaches and players think about how they are going to field a slap hitter. This form of hitting is becoming a major role within fast-pitch softball. When I got the opportunity to learn how to slap hit I was excited to gain this ability. With practice, patience and determination, I began to learn the hitting style that I use today.
Softball is a sport that is known throughout the United States and the world. Softball originated on Thanksgiving Day in Chicago in 1887. The game was actually said to have begun as an indoor game. Softball was started by a group of men who had gathered at a club to watch the Harvard vs. Yale football game. When the news came that Yale had defeated Harvard, 17-8, one Yale supporter, overcome with enthusiasm, picked up an old boxing glove and threw it at a nearby Harvard alumni, who promptly tried to hit it back with a stick. This gave George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, an idea. He suggested a game of indoor baseball. Naturally, Hancock's friends thought he was talking about playing a game outdoors, not indoors.
Injury is a serious public health issue. Injuries differ by their nature and severity. Injuries can be unintentional or intentional. Unintentional injuries include road traffic injuries, falls, burns, drowning, poisoning, and intentional injuries include self-inflicted injuries, interpersonal violence, and war-related injuries [1,2,3]. Globally, injury causes over five million deaths per year [1,2,3]. Injury cases result in more deaths than HIV-AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined (3.8 million) [1,3,4]. Nonfatal injuries represent a large proportion of the injury burden and deaths represent a small proportion [4]. Most injuries result in significant psychological trauma, potentially life-long disability, and subsequent financial loss [4].

For baseball players, it is essential to stay healthy. One of the reasons a player tends to focus on healing his body is that if a player sits out injured for too long, he may lose his starting position. Though this is always in the forefront of a player’s mind, the first thing he should think about is healing his body so that he can continue his career. The most common injury to baseball players is “tennis elbow”. Other injuries baseball players deal with are dislocated joints and broken bones. Though baseball may seem like a less injury-prone sport than soccer or football, it can have just as many injuries with life-changing implications as the hard-hitting sports.
As I was growing up, my parents always wanted to find something to help me be active with other children. I was extremely shy and would not talk to anyone. At the age of six, I chose to try out for softball, but I was not sure if it was something I would continue to play. Softball has helped me break out of my comfort zone and talk to people, make lifelong friends, and be stronger as an individual. The older I got, the more open I was, but my first year of JV is what broke my shell.
Knee injuries are more predominate in contact sports such as football. However, they occur in other sports as well. To understand this injury (definition and diagram)
Some people just think softball is as simple as someone swinging a stick, hitting a ball, and trying to get back to where they started. They don’t see what softball really means to someone like me. Someone who has dedicated their life just to be able to play on that field at a certain level. Someone who wants to go to college and play the sport that they love. Well, I play softball because of the love I have for the sport.
The day was perfect to play softball, the bright sun was giving off the heat. I was sitting in the the car moving like crazy as if I was trapped and and was trying to escape. I had the worst butterflies feeling like I was going to throw up my breakfast all over my moms car floor. We pulled in the parking lot in a flash and all you could hear was me breathing heavily. My mom hit the button to the door so i could get out of the car. I got out and the fresh air was really hot. I got very sweaty like we just finished with the state championship game but I believe i was just too nervous.
While softball can be a complex and intricate game, if explained in detail and broken down properly, it can be understood even by someone who knows little to nothing about the sport. Let’s examine and break down softball further, by explaining what the bases are and how they function within the game, as well as breaking down the responsibilities of each defensive position on the field. In the game of softball, there are a total of four bases that are needed in order to play. As the batter steps up to bat, right by their feet lays home plate.
Blood, sweat, and tears is all about softball. It is about the bond that is made with the team, along with the opponents. Bring girl’s together for one sport, and playing to win. It’s a dedication that you sacrifice to for the hours of practice, injuries, sweating, and love for the game.
Here I am, standing on the corner of second base. It is the top of the first inning with no outs. The pitcher goes into her windup and I take a hard lead off the bag. The ball hits the bat and I immediately take off to third. I hear the words, “down, down, down!” I slide into third and just as my left foot hits the bag I hear a very distinct, “pop!” I roll over on my side and I just lie there. The crowd is silent. Thee only thing I can hear is the voice in my head telling me something bad has just happened. I look up and see my coach standing over me. All I can do is cry. I think to myself, “it’s over.” “My hopes of ever becoming the softball player I always dreamt of are gone.” As I am helped up by my coach and the other team’s coach, I can
In sports, especially professional sports injury is a great possibly, and a common and very serious injury is plaguing all sports. The concussion is that injury. And over the past few years the NHL and other leagues or trying to crack down on concussions; but those are only partial solutions. In hockey concussions, can come from anything and happen at any time. Thus, proposing a solution or a way to prevent them, is very difficult. As per a study that took place from 1997-2004, results published in 2011 by CTV, states “With averages ranging from 4.6 to 7.7 concussions per 100 NHL players per season, it’s likely that each of the 30 teams in the league will see at least one or two players miss time due to a concussion every year” (Tahirali). Thusly supporting how many players received concussions, even if this study is older. Many people are fighting to get the game changed to combat concussions, and just as many fight to not change the game; although they still do not want concussions.
