In Arthur Miller's play The Crucible, Reverend Hale states " No principle however glorious is worth dying for ". I strongly disagree with this statement and so do others. First off, there are countless examples throughout history of people putting their lives on the line for what they believe in. Secondly, in the play The Crucible there are many people such as John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey who would rather die than to cowardly admit to witchcraft just so they won't be killed.
There are many examples of people in The Holy Bible either losing their lives or putting their lives on the line for what they believed in. In this case it was for Christianity and their way of life. When Jesus of Nazareth came across the …show more content…

An example of a person who would not die for what they believe in is Reverend Hale. Everyone has their own opinions and most people would disagree with Reverend Hale. Lots of people value and cherish their lives the way they are and wouldn’t give it up for a false confession.
An example of someone who got put in jail for being accused of witchcraft was John Proctor, and he never had the chance to confess, because they took him so fast he had no time. Reverend Hale attempted to persuade him to confess to a false crime so he could live and raise his 3 children . John Proctor finally decided to sign the paper to confess then moments after he took the paper not wanting to confess and was sentenced to death and hung in front of the whole town. He stood by what he believed in, and in this case he paid the ultimate price.
Even though Reverend Hale's statement " No principle however glorious is worth dying for." I still strongly disagree with it. You shouldn't just admit to something that you didn’t do just so you won't get in trouble. You should stand up for what you believe in and never give up. Always do what you want, and don’t let people tell you
