The 9/11 memorial, on the site of twin towers tragedy is a greatly build memorial. My visit there 2 weeks ago was heart warming experience. The memorial was one of the most beautiful tributes t had ever seen. The water splashing against your skin brings a sense of peacefulness and somberness. It will always remain ground zero in my mind. The family and friends of victims are most touched by the memorial. They have a dignified designated site where they can get a sense of communing with the loved ones they lost. They can find names, make rubbings to bring home and leave mementos. For me it was a heartwarming experience but also a very clustered one. It made me elated to see the names of the people being remembered in such a grand way …show more content…
She told her daughter that her father had been stuck on the 2nd floor in the 2nd tower's elevator, in his final moments he had called to tell her how much he loved her and his daughter . It was really awful he did not kno if he would make it out alive he explained. The mother began to weep harder she looked down at her daughter and said he knew the end was near but he didn’t have any panic or fear in his voice. He was a brave man, I will never forget those last seconds, the panic, the sadness and all the chaos I heard in the background. Every year about a week before the 9/11 anniversary occurs she begins to feel a sense of restlessness and it spirals into and extreme depression. She comes to the memorial often she said it calms her down. Looking at the memorial site and interacting with so many others that share the same feelings give's her surreal feeling. The National September 11 Memorial is a place of remembrance honoring those who perished in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The creation of the memorial allow people to come together to reflect on what happened there, not alone but as a community in a public space where people gather and congregate. My experience there was over all a very moving one. I believe every American should visit the memorial and take time to remember the women, men and children that lost their lives at ground
September 11, 2001 was not just any ordinary day for the citizens of the United States and the city of New York, but a devastating attack that has put us all in shock and fear. As all of you know, the Tuesday that this country was ambushed and attacked destructively by terrorists, was one of the saddest days America has ever seen. Not only did it affect the people that were in the World Trade Center Towers and the loved ones who unfortunately passed away, but it affected our country as a whole. Scared, devastated, astonished, and surprised are just a few words that begin to describe September 11th. As separate states and people, I can confidently say that America has never been closer together as one than on that
A lot of people did not believe what the government’s story about the attacks. The government claimed that it was true but some people still did not believe them. Other people believed them and respected all the people who died. In between the two waterfalls is a Museum and it has pictures and more facts about all the attacks on the day. It also has some remains and other things that other people had in the museum and it honors people who lived and died. People who risked their life they either survived or did not survive. Many people died on September, 11 2000 and these memorials honor these people that will never be
Traveling to the 9/11 memorial brought a heavy feeling to my heart today. It’s pretty hard to go somewhere and stand on the ground where thousands and thousands of people lost their lives. Especially since I personally lost loved ones during the attacks. Not only did the going into the memorial bring a different feeling to you, it was also one of the best educational experiences I’ve had in a while. I learned so many things that happened that day than I really actually knew about. For instance, I never really had full insight on what had actually happened on the place during the hijacking, but after memorial had all these short little clips that explained each scenario in depth. Another one of my favorite parts of the memorial
New York: 9/11 Memorial and Museum: This memorial and museum of 9/11 was my favorite site in New York and it also taught me a few life lessons. When you first walk up to the sight there are these two breathtaking fountains in the shape of the square buildings that use to stand straight up. Then around the squared fountains the names of all the victims are written. Just by looking at the fountains it taught me the first lesson, to never take life for granted no matter the situation. Realizing that the victims arose that morning not realizing that it would be their last morning getting out of bed, it disturbs and rattles you a bit. When I sat back and just watched the water flow in the middle of the fountain, it truly hit me that these were all
In creating a monument and memorializing an event, the group or agency should consider its importance in bringing together a community, thus providing a sense of attachment. In creating public monuments, it furnishes “a face-to-face encounter in a specially valued place set aside for collective gathering” (Source A). Essentially connecting the past and the present, monuments stand as an absolute reminder of our past. Not only does it serve as a reminder, but it also acts as a holy site as people come together to experience the monument in a simple but powerful way. Monuments establish the sense of community in both a real and imagined fashion. Connections between the people among themselves visiting the authentic public space, and connections between people and history are made. As Source A states, “The public monument speaks to a deep need for attachment that can be met only in a real place, where the imagined community actually materializes.” With memorializing an event, it is important that the emotional connection built off of its fundamental historical significance is considered. Based on Source E, controversy over not only just creating the monument, but also the idea of memorializing the Holocaust was deliberated. Because the United States made little to no effort in preventing the Holocaust, the memorialization of the event drew protest as opponents felt as if this act of remembrance would be offensive emotionally. From this, it is clear that it is important to assess the emotional underlying behind an event and how it could affect communities consequently. Memorializing an event should connect a community, not divide
The 911 memorial has many gorgeous features. the memorial takes up 8 of the 16 acres of the memorial and museum. The actual memorial is 2 waterfall pools, each equaling 1 acre in size. Engraved into the pools are each and every single name of the people who died in all of the terrorist attacks on September 19, 2001. Surrounding the plaza is 400 trees, in all different shapes and sizes. The plaza, because of all of the trees surrounding the monument, is the most eco-friendly environment in the world, because of the beautiful design, the memorial is very touching.
What is your favorite monument? What event or person is that monument memorializing? Remembrance of people who have had an impact on us is very important. In most cases, people are remembered for doing something good in life. However, there are some instances in which a person or event is memorialized for something horrifying. When making making a memorial for a person or event, there are a few factors that groups or agencies should take into consideration. The location, size, and reason for building the monument are three factors that should be considered.
The Lincoln Memorial is a never going to forget things. The monument has a interesting history. It is visited by millions. If you go to D.C. you will not go a day without hearing about it. If you are ever in D.C, visit the Memorial. It will be one of the coolest thing you will see.
People who view this should feel the agony that the city felt at this time, though they may not fully grasp the heartache this tragedy brought New Orleans, they can understand what Katrina did to the city of New Orleans. Emergency responders bringing people to safety and making sure they have clean water and food to eat. A firefighter or EMS worker visiting from another state can understand how hard it must of have been for these responders saving other families not knowing where there families were. Mothers rocking their babies to sleep, maybe a mother walking with her family to see this monument will hold her children tight and feel the agony mothers’ during this time felt. Feeling the reality that the people who had to sleep in sleeping bags on the unsanitary floor of the superdome felt. Shedding a tear for the people who never got to re-unite with their families and for the lives lost during this tragic event. This monument is meant for people to stand at for quite some time and honor the lives that were lost, and the heartbreaking tragedy that struck the city so many people
9/11 was the biggest terrorist attack that has ever been done on American soil. It killed hundreds of people, injured thousands, and forced nearly a million to evacuate their homes. It was a massive slaughter and marked an important moment in U.S. history.
The events of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 has forever changed the world on every level that we as human beings live. It was one of the most devastating days that would change our nations history and life of every American family. This was one of the most hiatus acts of terror in our countries history, because of all the lives lost and the collapsing of the twin towers that was destroyed to what is related to as a metal grave. This act of hate was made by people who made the sick decision to take lives of all of our loved ones whether they worked in one of the towers or whether they were responders to save lives. September 11 known as 9-11 will never be forgotten from the terrible residue that is lived on a day to day as we travel for family vacations or as we entreat one another in our communities.
Visit the principal memorial and museum that commemorate the terrorist attack of 9/11, when almost 3000 people lost their lives, and the 1993 bombing, when 6 people were killed. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is situated at the World Trade Centre site, the former location of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed during the terror attacks of September 11.
4) I think Yad Vashem is the most effective and touching memorial. The displays are moving and empowering. The Avenue of the Righteous reminds the world that there is always a 'faithful remnant' of good people and that because there were so few, we need to do more to vouch safe the world. The educational programs and sites are rich with meaning and designed to give focus and inspire healthy memory and renewed commitment to creating a just world.
Sitting in your recliner chair trying to imagine what those people were going through is tough. “Even though I haven't been to ground zero, to go back to the memorial, I think it would show that I am not afraid. I don't think we needed the towers to be as tall or as an easy target, although they showed our pride. I wonder how the people would feel if things were built in place of the towers, where their family and/or friends died.” It would be nice to have the terrorists know that even if they did leave a scar, we still live
The Icon rises in NYC skyline, One WTC: 104 stories tall, reaching approximately 1,776 feet. This tower, perhaps, the most complex and expensive building ever constructed on American soil. It is the place where people come to work and to remember. It has been an epic journey filled with problems and innovative solutions. For architect David Childs, it was a challenge of a lifetime. He said: “They knew that this building would have all eyes on it, and they needed new technical advances that set path for other buildings in the future.” Next door is 9/11 memorial to honor who died in the worst terrorist attack in American History. Future generation needs to understand what place is that site. The role of this museum plays to punctuate what that day means to you. After more than a decade the building of One World Trade Center is complete. “The most important is that we did rebuild and gave us a chance to build better,” said mayor of NYC. It is a birth of an icon but really live up to its promise to be beautiful, safe and ahead of its time.
