Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a movie that uses two people in a romantic relationship to show the six relationship stages that occur in real life. The lovebirds used in this movie are Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski. Joel is an introverted person while Clementine is the extroverted. She makes the first move of approaching Joel and after a while they end up interested in each other. Even though the movie goes back and forth chronologically, the two lovebirds will have their moment of conflict. Clementine is the first to go to the Lacuna – a place that specializes in erasing memory of people in distress. Joel is shocked after he approached her; she acted as if she didn’t know him because she erased him from her memory. After knowing the truth, he decides to do the same thing. Apparently, while the procedure is being done on him, he wants to stop it. Inside his memory, she tells him to meet her in Montauk. They subconsciously link again. As things were going perfectly, they receive a tape from a former Lacuna worker named Mary. It creates anger among them, however, they finally decide to continue their relationship no matter how it ends in the future. This paper will assess the important pieces of this relationship and construct them in a way that helps the reader deal with similar encounters. This section discusses whether relationships arise from common experiences or if they are the result of natural characters of people. Relationships are initially based
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder often characterized by abnormal social behaviour and failure to recognize what is real. Common symptoms include false beliefs, unclear or confused thinking, auditory hallucinations, reduced social engagement and emotional expression, and inactivity. A person with schizophrenia often hears voices, experiences delusions and hallucinations and may believe thoughts, feelings and actions are controlled or shared by someone else.
In chapter 4 of The Sociologically Examined Life, Michael Schwalbe discusses “Relationships, Groups, and Interdependence.” This chapter covers several topics in-depth of relationships and why we categorize things the way we do.

St. Andrews University, a school of psychology, has developed studies proving that people pick partners that have similar attributes to their parental figure of the opposite sex. Whether or not this “imprinting phenomenon” theory is believed to be true, there is no denying that interpersonal relationships do have an effect on one’s view of the world. Through the texts that displayed this common theme, such as “My Mother Pieced Quilts,” “Two Kinds,” “Two Ways to Belong in America,” and “An Indian Father’s Plea,” readers begin to learn just how great the impact is. Interpersonal relationships in one’s background majorly influence an individual's perspective of others and the world.
At the time I saw the movie, Field of Dreams (1989) I thought it was one of the weirdest movies I’d ever seen. Holly and I kept looking at each other during the movie and whispering, “What’s going on now?” But it was about baseball, so I thought I should keep watching. The movie is a favorite for millions of people. AFI voted it in the top ten of the fantasy genre.
Another theme that is present in both works of literature is memories. In “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind”, Joel wanted to forget his memories with Clementine, but he soon realized that he cherished those memories and did not want to lose them. As a result, he tried to hide them in his childhood memories from the machine detecting them in his mind. Similarly in Crow Lake, Kate tried to hide her childhood memories from Daniel as she did not want Daniel to know any part of her past life. Interaction was also an important theme in both works.
The film centers around Joel Barish, a shy, boring man and his love interest Clementine, who differs from Joel with her spontaneous and carefree personality. Through the idea of unrestrained technology, the film offers an alternative universe to the viewers where memories are no longer permanent. A company called Lacuna (appropriately named, as the literal meaning of lacuna refers to a gap or hole) offers the service of intentional and calculated memory loss. As the movie unfolds, Clementine and Joel’s relationship fails and they separate. Apparently too heartbroken
Adding onto the backstory, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is viewed to be one of those cult favorites that will cause people to think about their own idealization of what love is during the duration of the film. As for my relevant research material, I have decided to incorporate “the phone call scene” from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
This literature review will first define romantic relationships and explore what exactly happens in the development of these relationships. From the research found, individual’s age or sex did not necessarily affect the differences in communication. Some research claimed that communication itself defined a romantic relationship; while other researchers said that a couple having the conversation of, “what are we?” was enough to define the relationship. Sometimes it was mutuality in a relationship that helped define it. Mutuality in relationships was often increased with positivity and compliments between partners (Doohan and Manusov 2004).
The title of the article is “The Gift of Similarity: How good or bad gifts influence relationships”.
In Michael Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), the connections between people and memories become the focal point of a very unique romance. Through the use of new technology, the possibility of erasing memories makes painful relationships disappear like they never happened. The tale of Joel and Clementine allows the audience to rethink and question the process they undergo as beneficial or destructive. Though the process might be helpful in eliminating the pain caused from another person, four key scenes show how the lessons learned through relationship experiences are important.
The film follows Joel Barish and his relationship with Clementine Kruczynski, passionate but highly dysfunctional in nature. The film stretches over a couple of years, showing both its peak and nadir, leading to the end of their relationship. Joel, hurt and perplexed, realizes that Clementine has undergone a memory erasing procedure at Lacuna in an endeavor to erase any trace or memory of Joel. Upset, he finds the doctor and demands the same operations. Trapped in his mind, he relives memories as they are erased and realizes the importance of his past, his relationship with Clementine, and what that means to him. Joel
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a wonderful movie, that poses a big message who involve a few points.
Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry found the perfect, fragmented form to simulate memories in the non-linear storyline of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). The thematic elements of the film helps this simplistic story of love found, lost, and found again develop into a complex pattern, much like the workings of the brain. Each character is everything you would expect them to be in real life – down to earth, imperfect, and hopelessly searching for the love someone can only dream of. We can relate to them because we all long for more than we are, and want the best of us to be shown to someone else. Memories make up who we are, they define us. Life teaches us lessons which shape our memories, and in turn, we learn from them. What if those memories were gone? Are we still destined to be the same person? The protagonist of the movie is Joel, and the story surrounds his relationship with Clementine. The antagonist can be seen as Patrick, who tries to destroy their relationship, or Lacuna Inc., whose purpose is to make them forget their relationship. Charlie Kaufman has created a beautiful story that incorporates so many valuable forms in cinema, and leaves viewers on the edge of their seat until the very end. My goal is the show the class concepts of this narrative, as well as demonstrate how the way the film’s story is told
For years the formation of friendship has been evaluated through the eyes of psychology on how friendships actual form. There
