To understand an ethical dilemma, we must first understand ethics. Ethics affect the way we think, act and understand each other. Ethics is the conscious reflection on our moral beliefs and attitudes through the use of normative ethical theories. Every human being is ethical. We constantly think before our actions, questionin who our actions will benefit, harm or the consequences. Politicians, doctors, students, pedestrians, teachers etc., are constantly making ethical decisions. Even though every human being is ethical, we all have differing ethical views. Which ties into the term ethical dilemma. An ethical dilemma is the choice between two nearly even balanced alternatives. Which would appeal to those who believe the co worker should keep the promise she made with Alice. Utilitarianism is a majority based ethical theory with its central principle highlighting the ideal of acting for the benefit of the majority. This theory would appeal to those who believe the co worker should donate to the children’s hospital.
The most ethically correct approach to this dilemma is Kantian ethics. Like mentioned before, Kantian ethics is a duty based theory. Meaning that Kant believes in the ideal of having and acting in obligations and duty. For example, In the article Kantian Ethics, “[Kant] feels that a person is acting morally only when he suppresses his/her feelings and inclinations and does that which he/she is obliged to do.” (page 35). The quote discusses how Kant believes that moral actions are performed when we suppress our emotional feelings and other impulses and follow our obligations. The co-worker has an obligation to Alice and Thomas as she made a promise to Alice. The co-worker clearly has her own inclinations but she would have to suppress them in order to task morally. On one hand the co-worker wants to value the promise she made, but she also wants to help sick children as well. If the co-worker were to listen to her own personal opinions, she would not be following the obligation and duty she made to Alice. Her actions would then be considered
I feel it is a person’s choice and it is different than suicide. It has to be well thought out and talked about with a team of people involved including physicians, psychologists, and family. I also think it is based more on
People from all walks of life face many ethical dilemmas. These dilemmas have consequences. Our worldview determines how we deal with these dilemmas, and guides us to the right decisions. Ethical dilemmas occur when there is a disagreement about a situation and all parties involved question how they should behave based on their individual ethical morals. (Newman & Pollnitz, 2005). The dilemma that I will be addressing in this essay involves Michael, recently employed male educator working in the nursery, and parents of a baby enrolled at the centre. The parents have raised concerns about male educators changing their child’s nappy as they have cultural practices that do not allow this practice to take place. This situation is classed as an ethical dilemma as there is a dispute between cultural beliefs and legal requirements within the workplace. There are four parties involved (parents, child, educator and director), all
In journalism, an ethical dilemma is a complex issue or situation that often involves an emotional and psychological conflict between moral obligations and duties, in which to obey one would transgress the other. Within the media there are many stories that can be deemed an ethical dilemma; some more so than others. One of the most recent and prominent ethical dilemmas was the worldwide coverage surrounding the shooting of two American WBDJ journalists, Alison Parker and Adam Ward. Despite the fact that the shooter filmed the ordeal clearly showing the two slain journalists being shot, news outlets had picked it up and ran with the story, which ultimately went viral in minutes. This essay will analyse and thoroughly examine the reporting
The health care colleague interviewed, Faith McClure, has about thirty three years experience in the field. She was the Medical/Surgical Director at my facility, and currently a case manager in my office. This is to emphasize her experience and expertise in the medical field. She obviously had strong feelings about pharmaceutical marketing and was happy to contribute.

Ethical dilemma is often defined as a situation involving two choices that will both have a negative result or both have a positive result. Knowing this, ethical dilemma is found in your every day lives and is illustrated in ways that might not be recognizable at all times. Remember the Titans is a film produced in 2000 about two high schools, one white and one black school, which are combined and integrated. The movie is shown through the eyes and ways of the high school football team where the teams is forced to integrate and they learn to depend on each other. Ethical dilemma is found in this movie several times, but there is one that is found in the basis of the movie, racism.
One the other hand, ethical dilemmas are circumstances where an individual has to decide what to do. The right choice may be difficult because of the scarifies involved or it may be unclear. Every individual will at some stage of their life, be faced with ethical dilemmas. There are no right and wrong answers to the dilemmas a person will face. Every individual has their own guiding morals and principles in how they base their decisions both personally and professionally. Professionally, individuals should always follow the set Code of Ethics for their profession. This enables the individual to seek guidance when faced with an ethical dilemma. Personally, it is up to the individual to determine what they deem right or wrong. Having said that, there will always be some grey areas. What one person may see as an ethical or moral dilemma, another person may
“Brad is a production engineer at a bicycle company and part of his job includes inspecting broken bikes and drafting the design repairs for their repair” (Bartlett). Brad is considering replacing a broken brake cable with a more durable material, even though the customer did not request it in their order and specifically requested that “No aesthetic changes be made to the bike” (Bartlett). Brad’s manager suggests that his considered actions would go against the company’s policy of “The customer is always right.” Should Brad disobey the manager and the customer to possibly lose his job or go along with
Now two sides of people can argue all day on what is right and what is wrong. To sum everything up there is no real answer to an ethical dilemma. A great example of ethical dilemma is abortions. Some people are all for abortions while some are totally against abortions. Ethical dilemmas make it hard to come up with a solid decision. A great guide to go by when having a dilemma issue is identify the facts, identify relevant values and concepts, identify all possible moral dilemmas for each party involved, decide what is the most immediate moral or ethical issue facing the individual, and resolve the ethical or some other means of decision
The ethical dilemma is a situation by which it’s difficult to determine whether a situation is can be handled without disappointing both sides. Therefore, an ethical dilemma exists when the right thing to do is clear or when members of the healthcare team cannot agree on the right thing to do. Ethical dilemmas require negotiation of different points of view (potter, Perry, Stockert, & Hall 2011pg 78).
Ethics can be dangerous to your career. The danger may come not from your own ethics but from the ethics of people around you and the organization of which you are a part. Employees have various moral decisions to make. Many of these decisions should be made on the basis of our moral obligations, but sometimes the morally preferable action could require courage and be performed beyond the call of duty. One defense against involvement in wrongdoing is vocalizing when there are unethical practices being made. While being prepared for organizational challenges that will inevitably test your personal values, moral beliefs, and commitment may be doing the right thing, is it ethical when one’s job is on the line?
