Perception is shaped by learning, memorizing, expectation and attention.
Perception involves these “top-down” effects as well as the “bottom-up” process of processing sensory input. The bottom-up processing transfers the low level information to higher level information (extracts shapes for object recognition) the top-down processing refers to a person’s concept and expectations (knowledge) and selective mechanisms that influence perception. Perception includes all those process by which an individual receive information about his environment like seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling etc.
Perception is the process of interpreting the messages of our senses to provide order and meaning to the environment. Among the most important perceptions that influence organizational behavior are the perceptions that organizational members have of each other.
COMPONENTS OF PERCEPTION
Perception has three components – a perceiver, a target that is being perceived, and some situational context in which the perception is occurring.
A. The Perceiver
The perceiver 's experience, motives, and emotions can affect his or her perceptions.
1. Experience. One of the most important influences on perception is experience - our past experiences lead us to
Perception is defined as the process in which perceivers give meaning to the things they see after comprehend and rearrange the data in their brains (Robbins, 2014). The final information concluded by each person can be different comparing to the reality and the others’ conclusion. Briefly, perception is what our brains, instead of our eyes, see.
The first thing that I learned about perception was earlier discovered by a psychologist by the name of Max Wertheimer. He discovered that our body clearly separates images into figures
Human perception is a process of sensing the world by the human brain. This process is firmly influenced by a person’s first culture, which means people interpret the meaning of other’s behavior based on their cultural backgrounds and personal experiences. Racial
In my very own words i would say my understanding of perception is how you see or view things around you and life in general. Selection, Organization, and Interpretation are the three most important factors the "Perception Process Cycle". It explores how we process the sensory stimuli of our current situation. Selection is a process in which we decide what stimuli we choose to process. We consider certain factors when we select stimuli to process like touching, tasting, hearing, or seeing it. After selecting the stimuli to focus on its always important to organize it. Organization is also referred to as a schema. A schema is broken down into four important factors such as prototype which is your view of the situation, yardstick which is how you personally measure or assess and individual, stereotype how you categorize or what you think of others and lastly, is common behaviors what you expect others
These senses are the avenues by which the stimuli around us can be absorbed and translated into our perception. However, certain characteristics of sense perception as a basis for attaining knowledge about our reality can raise problems. This is because it is subjective and relative; it varies with condition and can be external to the object perceived.
Sensation is when our senses receive and relay outside stimuli. Perception is how we interpret our sensations and put them into context.
Perception is “an apparently immediate apprehension or cognition of an object now present in a particular locality or region of space” (James 79). The most essential source of knowledge is experience, which originally comes from our senses. Perception is the process by which we construct a version of reality, ultimately “making sense of the world” through our experiences (or senses). However, a long held conflict concerning the limitations our senses, which essentially play a vital role in perception, has brought about the possibility of perceptual bias and selective perception. Many psychologists and philosophers believe this to be impossible, considering that "the capacity for perception is a basic capacity of an organ."
Perception is the view or understanding one allows to become the basis for interpreting situations and people. One’s perception develop into the defining place of our actions.
People of different cultures and beliefs have different perceptions of the world and of others. Perception is a concept that is as complicated as the human mind, it is biased, it is always subjective, and never objective (McDonald, 2012). Perception is influenced by life experiences that creates a lens in which one views the world through (McDonald, 2012).
A person’s perception of his or her surroundings is a result of the five senses touch, sight, smell, sound, and taste. These senses are what determine what is existent and what is non-existent.

Perception plays a huge role in someone’s life. “When a distinction is made between sensation and perception, sensation is frequently identified as involving simple “elementary” processes that occur right at the beginning of a sensory system, as when light stimulates receptors in the eye. In contrast, perception is identified with complicated processes that involves higher-order mechanisms such as understanding and memory that involve activity in the brain” (Goldstein, 1980, p. 7). It is simply the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the five senses. Perception aids us to navigate through the world, avoid danger, make decisions, and prepare for action.
