Child labor is a serious problem that affects children from third-world countries all over the world. These children are exploited by multinational corporations ,for their cheap labor all over the world. People, then buy products that come at a cheaper price, from these multinational corporations.These children are often overworked and treated unfairly. People need to stop buying items from countries that endorse child labor.

“Each year, as many as 2.7 million healthy years of life are lost due to child labor.” Imagine that you are being held as a slave and forced to do dangerous labor as a child. Countless people are being held captive and are being forced to do perilous things, sweating their lives away, not taking breaks, and being put in adult like situations. In fact right now there are “15-20 million children working as slaves.” Although it provides children and families with money, and possibly something to learn from, adolescents should not be enslaved or forced to do labor because it is very dangerous and can damage a minor for the rest of their life.

When the United States passed the bill that banned the importation of goods made by child labor, Americans thought that it was a victory for children in third world countries. What Americans neglected to consider was the possible negative side effects that the children were to face. Due to the ban, millions of children have lost their jobs and have been left to starve. Prohibiting theses imported materials is not an effective way to make the lives of working children better. When confronting the controversial issue of child labor, one needs to step into the shoes of the children, diminish child labor stereotypes, and focus on regulations and goals to improve working conditions.

In conclusion there aren’t many child labor issues in America they are mainly in South America, Asia, China, and India. I have learned a lot about child labor throughout this research.

I feel that child labor was a horrible idea, and not just because that’s what everyone feels. I can not put into words how bad it is. Let’s just go back to the 1800’s, women with their dresses, hats, gloves, and umbrellas. Men with their suits, canes, hats, and monocles. The horse and carriages riding by, and you are wishing you knew what that would feel like, your parents can’t afford any of that stuff. You hear screaming and cursing. It's your “boss” telling you to get back to work. You have been forced to work at a sweatshop since the age of 10 to support your family. The big man throws you into the building. All of the other workers are the same age as you. All of yours clothes are dirty and you're sweating. The job is to work the machines.

Children in Africa, Asia, and Latin America work in extreme heat and are exposed to toxic pesticides that risk their health conditions. Statistics from the International Labor Organization show that ‘’there are about 73 million children between ages 10 and 14, and 218 million children between the ages of 5 and 17, working worldwide’’.  I am here today to convince you that the worst forms of child labor, including child trafficking, commercial and sexual exploitation, child domestic work, and hazardous child labor are still a concern today, and poverty, the lack of social protection, and the lack of decent work for adults are some of the reasons why child labor hasn’t been eradicated yet.

Did you know that child labor does more than deprive children of their education and mental and physical development,their childhood is stolen? Child labor is the use of children in the industry or business, especially when illegal or considered inhuman. Here’s a fun fact I bet you didn’t know that children who participates in the labor force is endlessly varied and responding to changing social conditions. This is exactly why child labor should not be legal.

Child slavery is a growing problem and needs to be stopped. The difference between child labor and child slavery is labor is where they work because they want to not because they are forced to work and get no pay. Child labor occurs in many countries. The children are used for mining, agricultural work, and soldier are some examples of what the kids are used for(“Child slavery: what is it?”). They are used because they are easy to bribe and control because they are not good at decision making at their age. They won’t complain as much and will not ask for a raise or sometimes they won’t even be paid.

For hundreds of years, children have been placed in harsh working conditions without any say. Children are often sold and forced to work in sweat shops, out in fields, in mines, some are sold into prostitution and some are in the military. A lot of these children are forced to do these jobs because they need to help their families. Sometimes families will sell their children to do labor because they are in debt. Some might say that working as a child could be beneficial. It teaches them good work ethic and responsibility. It also teaches them how working hard and earning money is a way of living. But in reality, it robs children of their childhood and it delays their social skills and their basic learning skills as well. A child should not have to worry about working or being physically and mentally abused by their supervisors, co-workers or other people at such a young age because they shouldn’t be in a working environment like that. A lot of these children are denied health care, education, nutrition and the protection of their families. This kind of labor for children takes a toll on them and affects them later in life.
