I agree with Aristotle when he says, “The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.” To make everything equal, it wouldn’t require putting down people who strive for greatness and praise for average-minded people. It is unfair to compare someone who has worked hard all their life to become who they are today and someone indolent as equal. When certain individuals impede one’s ability by uplifting the others, they are actually creating more inequality than what exists. To illustrate, in the short film, 2081, the United States handicapper General requires certain people to wear handicaps to make everyone on the same rank. This is not fair to everyone because people who are stronger or smarter have to be made equal to everyone
Harrison, the main character, would be a clear example of inequality. Though Harrison has multiple handicaps due to his strength, and multiple capabilities, it can be seen that this does not fully affect him the way it affects others. For example, the text states, “he outgrown the hindrances faster than the H-G men could think them up.” In a way, it almost seems as if whatever handicap they made him wear, he repeatedly got used to them and therefore needed a different kind. It was almost as it the handicaps had no longer fazed him. The handicaps that were a burden to other citizens had been much worse for Harrison, but he was still able to take them off as if they were nothing. Harrison has taken his handicaps off with ease and no reluctance whatsoever. This can be proved by the quote, “Harrison tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps guaranteed to support five thousand pounds.” Due to the fact that Harrison had no trouble with his
The society is not equal because no can truly be changed on the inside, no matter how you may try to change them on the outside. Also if society were truly equal everyone would have handicaps and their handicaps would be the same, there would not just be a certain amount of people with handicaps, everyone would have them because equality is being the same and if only a certain amount of people had handicaps that would not be equal. Everyone has different qualities and different strengths and weakness's and if people were meant to be equal to each other, people would be, however everyone is different and unique. In conclusion no matter what anyone ever does or tries to do to society, no one will ever be truly equal to one another because the only way that would be possible, is if people were made that way but people were not, so no one is or ever will be truly
At a young age many people learned if presenting a problem, they must have a solution other wise the problem becomes an empty complaint. Has anyone complained about inequality? Does everyone treat people equally? Many people protest their thoughts on inequality. Some do not understand the problem, since they stand higher up in the food chain of wealth. Glenn Reynolds, professor, writer, and blogger wrote an interesting piece talking about ideas and his thoughts on how to make the world treat and think of each other equally. His article goes into many specify ideas that help pursued his audience. Mr. Reynolds builds his argument by staying on topic, provides different numbers surveyed, and strong ideas on how to change the problem.
Some may argue while equality is still a hinderance; it still is universally equal, instead of being unequal as the theme displays “equality” to be. They may argue this because of the supposed success of the handicaps, because they inhibit thought, strength, or agility, making sure nobody is superior to anybody else. This is shown by Hazel and George within the text. Hazel is extremely dull, and George is exceptionally smart, but they are both equal, thanks to handicaps. However, this is not always the case, as shown with Harrison and his would-be bride. Harrison’s handicaps are extremely heavy, to ensure that he is equal to everyone else. But he isn’t, being significantly stronger and smarter than everybody else, even with his handicaps. This displays the hindrance that is equality to be unequal.
For example, in the article “Life’s Not Fair” written by Mike Myatt, he explains how “people have overcome poverty, drug addiction, incarceration, abuse, divorce, mental illness, victimization, and virtually every challenge known to man.” Regardless of the challenges people face, they had the character to choose contribution over complaint and in that, is where you get fairness. Those who may not have gone through as much and may be living a normal life, may complain about how they may have not wanted the color bike that they got. People today’s day do not realize how others may go through more traumatic periods and end up not having the most amazing life. In reality, those instances aren’t considered fairness but, it all depends on the choices
Society should not be equal because we are all different even if they did put use in groups based on are similarities there still would be some difference. In the story ”Harrison Bergeron” the main characters has a son and he is different and they want him to be equal so they lock him up and but all these device on him to make him just like everyone else. “. He is a genius and an athlete, is under-handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous.” “ Harrison Bergeron single the ones that look or talk different or dance better “She must have been extraordinarily beautiful, because the mask she wore was hideous. And it was easy to see that she was the strongest and most graceful of all the dancers, for her handicap bags were as big as those worn by two-hundred pound men”.They want everyone to be the same so they make the special people handicap so they won't be different.
Imagine living in a world that consistently devalues your existence and is heavily populated with individuals who are quick to use and abuse your resources, but are slow to share the wealth that is accumulated from those resources. How would you feel? Unfortunately, certain populations do not have to visualize the disparity that is pictured above. This is because inequity is one of the most demoralizing social issues that plague America today. The worst thing about inequity is the fact that it continues to disproportionately burden individuals who are categorize as being minority in today’s society.
Continuing with the idea of people believing that it is unfair how the upper class has more advantages in life, this bring us to the “meritocratic model” which is the model that “recognizes inequities and tries to correct for socioeconomic disadvantages” says Arora (Arora 87). This is the system that is related with the United States (Arora 87) and the reason that most people believe that this model is fair is because people with low incomes or with fewer benefits are offered programs such as the Headstart program and subsidized healthcare. Doing this would help out the needy and put everyone at somewhat of an equal place in life. However thinking deeply into the idea of these programs, they are not entirely fair from everyone’s point of view. For example, some people are born with something that Arora refers to as the “natural lottery” which is described as “people who are born with certain talents and attributes- for instance, oratory, musical acumen, physical beauty and health, athleticism, good memory and
Inequality is something that humanity has faced since the beginning of time; it seems like it will never be worked out. There is really no way for everyone in the whole world to be “equal” no matter how much work is put into it. Inequality in “Harrison Bergeron” was tackled in grand way. There were many ways that gifted people were brought down to reach the level of those with special needs. The way inequality was handed to such an extent makes one wonder why certain equalities were held higher than others and what went on for there to be 213 amendments.
A perfect utopian living in a dystopia with 213 amendments making every single person equal and sees everyone without a handicap as an enormous threat to society, is this the true meaning to equality or is this a cruel punishment only for keeping people in check. "Harrison Bergeron a futuristic short story by Kurt Vonnegut jr," in the year 2081 a family with many handicaps living a dystopic future with one very special child named Harrison Bergeron who has no over whelming weakness and is perfect in all aspects of life ,as he turned 14 several h-g members broke through the door and secured a hostile l life for Harrison as they take him away from any life he had for trying to make the world a dream world, a utopian world and started to oppose the government. In this paragraph I will be talking how Harrison is the one true hero we need and should be admired for his actions, This is because he is fearless and is a role model Encouraging other people to rebel against the governments vile rules
Why are others treated differently for being different? Today, individuals were treated differently for being uneducated, mentally ill, disabled, etc. However, in a “utopia” everyone and everything is expected to be equal. In the story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. the plebeians of the society think that they are living in a utopia although that was just a cover up. The intelligent plebeians of their society were handicapped, making this a dystopia. The intelligent plebeians of their society are the burden of the secrets of the government. The society doesn’t see the truth and the intelligent plebeians of the society can’t make a difference because of their handicaps. However, the society in Harrison Bergeron is nothing like today’s.
Aristotle once said “The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.”
Inequality is ubiquity in our world, most people are looking at the downside or the surface of this phenomenon. In fact, that inequality is the drive of historical and social progress.
¨For ages People have thought fair and equal mean the same thing¨. ¨But they don`t¨ equal means the same and fair means when you get what you want.¨ So people need to stop thinking this they do and that's the truth¨.All that is fair is not always equal for example ,wonder, incomes and age. In the book via says she wants Auggie to stay home for her play because she doesn't want people to glare at her cuz she knows what they will think. It is not fair but it is equal because he is special and needs special help. ¨It's not fair I have to hang out with a kid because i'm popular¨. Julian didn't want to hang out with auggie and got mad because he thought it was because he was popular. The book wonder has lots of good examples of fair is not always
How do you decide what is and isn't fair? Many countries have policies based on equality of opportunity. These are policies that result in a transfer of wealth from the rich to the poor. In spite of this, these policies do not result in greater equality. Nations of the world are characterized by a disparity between the rich and the poor. The prevailing myth is that this disparity results from capitalism and the use of free markets. The facts are that the disparity is greater in societies that don't use free markets. Soviet Russia had two distinct classes. The upper class was comprised of the bureaucrats and the rest of population constituted the lower class. This disparity also exists in China. This is another way of saying that there is no middle class. Brazil is another country with a very marked disparity between the rich and the poor. Societies cannot have equality as a higher priority than freedom.
