Like Odysseus, I will go through struggles on my journey to becoming a preschool teacher. Like “The Odyssey” by Homer, I will need to overcome obstacles. You might think that Odysseus’ goal to return to his homeland doesn't relate to my goal of becoming a preschool teacher, but in reality it does. I will have to go through several difficulties such as money, college, and employment.
One of the obstacles that I will have to face that relates to “The Odyssey” is money. The obstacle of money relates to the monster cyclops in “The Odyssey”. The cyclops trapped Odysseus and his men in the cave so they can’t get out. Once you are in debt, it is very hard to get out of it. Odysseus had to plan ways to get out of the cave. If I end up being in debt from paying for college, It will be very hard to pay it off. In the book it stated, “He hefted the great boulder into place.” (9.248)

It will be hard to know which college is the best for what I am wanting to achieve. This relates to "The Odyssey" when Odysseus has to make the difficult decision between going through Scylla or Charybdis. Odysseus said, “Better to mourn six men than lose them all” and he chose to face Scylla instead of Charybdis. I will have to choose the right college like Odysseus had to choose which monster he wanted to face. He doesn’t know if it is the right decision. He has to make lots difficult decisions to achieve his
In Homer's, The Odyssey, Odysseus encounters many obstacles like I will in my future. My whole life I have wanted to work in the animal field and have recently decided to be an Animal Nutritionist. I will encounter obstacles such as getting into a college, as well as graduating, and getting a job. Odysseus also encountered obstacles such as the lotus eaters, Scylla, and the cyclops. My journey will be different from Odysseus because he was trying to make it back home to Ithaca. While I, plan to work on obtaining a degree. In my future there will be many obstacles to overcome like Odysseus did in his journey.
There are always going to be a moment in life when it feels like giving up is the only solution. Sometimes if one digs a little deeper like Odysseus did, goals in life can be achieved. Odysseus was faced with multiple obstacles that were difficult to overcome. However, the toughest are Penelope because she tested Odysseus’s loyalty and mental strength, Scylla and Charybdis kept Odysseus from being capable of using his physical strength, and Calypso tested Odysseus’s honor to his loving relationship with his wife Penelope and his ability to separate greed from his goals in life.
Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus faces many obstacles. The three obstacles in the story where odyssey was the Lotus Eaters, Cyclops, and the Enchantress Circe. Odysseus face many problems which he never thought of it. He had to go through that to get his home and it was really hard for him. But even though it was hard he never give up. He believed in his strength instead of giving up.
In The Odyssey, the Greek hero Odysseus must make it back to his home in Ithaca after the battle of Troy. Along his journey, he encounters obstacles that require the upmost perseverance and willpower to survive. Some of these obstacles include a giant cyclops who wants to eat him, lotus-eating peoples that drug his crew, violent storms that
As a senior in high school the time has come when people begin to ask big and sometimes overwhelming questions like, “Where are you going to college?” and “What will be your major?” These questions, of course, lead to college visits and decisions. The two colleges that seem to meet my criteria are The University of Findlay and Ohio Dominican University. Both colleges have positive aspects, such as having the major that I am interested in as well as being close to family. However, The University of Findlay seems to be a better fit than Ohio Dominican because it is closer to home and I am familiar with the campus and I grew up on this campus.
Even great heroes must face difficult challenges, and even great heroes receive advice on how to overcome them. In “the Odyssey,” written by Homer, the hero Odysseus faced three different adversaries on his way back to Ithaca: the Sirens, Scylla, and Charybdis. The goddess Circe advises Odysseus on how to overcome them.
In Homer's epic poem The Odyssey, Odysseus faces many different obstacles and challenges throughout his life. Although in my life there won't be monsters and mythical creatures. There will be many different challenges and temptations. Hopefully I will overcome my challenges just as Odysseus has. With the amount of strength and courage that he did on my way to becoming a vet.
Have you ever thought you could not overcome an obstacle when there’s no hope ? In “The Odyssey” by Homer, is a epic hero tale that tells about a man’s 10 year journey trying to find a way home. Odysseus was motivated to set off on this journey to celebrate his victory after the Trojan War in Troy. Soon he goes through obstacles where he learns perseverance and
The Odyssey, by Homer, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, is about a man named Odysseus, who was one of the Greek heroes in the Trojan War. In the Odyssey, Odysseus goes on a journey to return home to Ithaca. On the way, he encounters countless life-threatening obstacles, but he survives all of them, as a result it costs him several of his men. Throughout the journey, Odysseus stays adamant in his perseverance, which comes from his longing to be reunited with his family. Perseverance means to be able to do anything, even if there are many difficulties or obstacles in the way. Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus used perseverance to conquer the difficult obstacles in his journey home.
This long journey home from the trojan war was cursed to last several years because of his simple mistake. In act one Odysseus and his men are trapped in the cyclops, Polyphemus’ cave “Yet I refused (to leave the island). I wished to see the cave man, what he had to offer” (Homer 172). Odysseus’ men offer to take all the goods available to them and leave safely, yet he refused, he wished to challenge the Cyclops, Polyphemus. Which led to their capture in Polyphemus cave, they later blind the cyclops and disguise themselves as ram and escape the island without Polyphemus knowledge.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus was one of Greek’s greatest and most popular heroes. He was faced with many obstacles throughout the story in which he had to overcome. He was not the “strong man”, such as Achilles. He was more of a man of thought, patience, and clever tricks. Three instances in which Odysseus used his intelligence to overcome the obstacles he faced were when he tricked the Cyclops into getting drunk, got past the Sirens, and got Circe to turn his men back into humans.
Throughout Odysseus’s journey he had one goal in life: to get back home to his beloved wife, Penelope. Just like many of us today we have a goal of where we want to see ourselves in ten years. Although I am not going to face deadly sea monsters or barbaric cyclopes like Odysseus, I will encounter many hardships on my way to becoming a registered nurse. Despite that the epic poem The Odyssey written by Homer 2700 years ago, it is still very relatable today.
In “The Odyssey”by Homer, Odysseus and his crew go in a journey to going back to their home, but they go through some obstacles just like when you are going through life. For example in the book Lotus Eaters were trying to encourage Odysseus and his crew into eating their Lotus which can make you lose your sense of place or home, just like with drugs or peer pressure. Another example is the monster six headed monster Scylla who can kill and snatch you quickly, that represents how easily an accident or a tragedy can happen in your life. My last example is Penelope’s loyalty to Odysseus, which made her not so easy to give up on their love. That represents the loyalty and love of your friends and family and how you don’t give up on them.
One of the trade-offs that I faced before in my life is when I had to make a decision about what I want to do after high school. If I chose to further my studies, that means I would have to give up the chance to earn money and gain working experiences. When I made up my mind to continue studying, I hesitated about which university to choose because there are too many choices. For example, if I had chosen to study at local university, I would have lost the opportunity to experience the university life in foreign country. Contrarily, if I had chosen to study abroad, there would have been a bigger financial burden for my family. I had to make the wisest decision as it affects my future.
