Brykeria Hullette February1,2017 Flamingos The way slaves were treated during our journey from Africa to America. They were treated very poor and bad. If people sit down and really read what happen to the people who were treated as slaves. Its so sad what people had to go through during slavery. They were force to leave their familes. Some had to go through a lot during slavery. They were force to leave their familes for a long time and probably never came back. They were kill and also force to do things the rich people wanted them to do.
You will never know or understand the feeling the people who were force to do things were treated. Some of the commanders have cut off the legs or arms of the most willful slaves , to territy the rest. Also for them to believe that if they lose a member. They couldn’t return home again. They forced people to do their work. Treat them any type of way. They didn’t care how tired you were. They will still make you work even harder from sun up to sun down. Either if you didn’t do the work , they want you to do it. You’ll probably get a bad terrible torturage.

Well the people who were treated as slaves ate corn meal and a little bit of meat. Some of them got so sick. They were not able to eat. Nor the least desire to taste anything. It was so hard for them during that journey. They barely even ate , been out in that field working hard as they could. Even though they were tired , hot , and sleepy. They still had to work no matter what. Some of them didn’t even eat. They work hrad as they could for their familes and other people. That wasn’t enough for the people who forced them to work as hard as the other familes. Others had to provide for their children to were they couldn’t even
He notes that, the slavery institution made them forget about their origin, and anything else that entails their past, and even when they were born. The slaves forgot everything about their families, and none knew about their family because, they were torn from them without any warning. Douglass explains how they went without food, clothing and even sleep because their masters were cruel to them. American slavery took advantage of black laborers as they were beaten mercilessly without committing any offense. They were not treated as human beings, but as property that could be manipulated in any way. The slavery institution was harsh for the Africans especially women who were regularly raped, and forced to bear their masters children and if they declined, they were maimed or killed.
Throughout American history slave has resist their master, the system and the idea of slavery. These resistance has became of a key stone in the history of slavery. To understand what these resistance is, we will look at incident of the past to analyze how slave in the past resisted their master, the system and the idea of slavery.
In this assignment I will be taking a further look into the history of slavery. When thinking of slavery the immediate thought that comes to mind is all the negative aspects of the system. Prior to this research, I was unaware of slave systems that were not based on the long labor hours and the torture of slaves. Granted, there were still forms of slavery that practiced these brutal rituals, where slaves were treated as animals and were malnourished. One prime example of this, is the book titled “Am I Not A Woman And A Sister”, looks at the history of a Bermudan slave named Mary Prince. Another example of slavery that will be incorporated in this paper will come from a source about a woman slave named Semsigul, born in Caucasus an area that
When black slavery first started in the United States, all the slaves were being imported from Africa. Slowly overtime slaves were being born in the United States instead of solely being brought from Africa. The birth rate of the slaves was not high enough to depend on the reproduction of slaves in the south though. This resulted in a combination of both American-born slaves and African-born slaves on plantations. Eventually, there was a division between the two groups of slaves in the Southern part of the United States.
Slavery was a dark time in America’s past. Not only did slavery separate millions of families, it destroyed the white man’s reputation to African people. Many slave owners treated their slaves well, many did not. They forced their slaves to live in deplorable conditions. Malnutrition and overworking often led to death. If you were a slave, would you risk it all and try to run away? You might not have a choice if you wanted to stay alive.
People would offer themselves up to work the land and do other miscellaneous work in exchange for a passage to America. Although it is generally believed that indentured servants, as a whole, were treated better and more fairly than slaves, that is not completely true. Some indentured servants were treated kindly by their “owners”, while others were physically abused and had no rights in the eyes of whoever had control over them. Just like regular slaves, these servants were treated like property and were passed down through the family. If the primary owner of a servant died while they still had time to serve, then they were passed on to someone else in their family to allow them to finish their sentence. Frequently, indentured servants were beaten so badly that they would die, in which the master beating them would face little to no
No one can argue the horrors of slavery. I always immagined that slavery was the worst thing possible that could happen to a person. .That was until I took this class and read the book about Frederick Douglas.
the natives and not taking care of them at all. Slavery is an extremely disturbing, awful,
First, African Americans sustained many hardships and had very bad lives as slaves. They were beaten and not fed, and most starved to death. When or if they died they would be thrown overboard the ship and fed to the sharks. If they did make it they would be forced to do hard labor without pay and very little food. They were given poor sleeping conditions. When the slaves were brought from Africa they were auctioned to the buyers and were split up from their families, and they were treated unfairly.
Slavery, it is so stupid to know that it actually existed, in America or in any parts of the world. Slavery is one of the most awful part of American History, an act of racial discrimination. Why is it racist? Well, it is simply because only dark skinned people were considered slaves. We all know it happened, but when and how did it ended? It ended after the civil war, when people started fighting that people in all race are equal and slavery is very inhuman. People started rebelling and passing bills to end it, and that is when the Civil war started.

In addition to this, they were whipped and beaten as punishment. The slaves worked on the fertile lands of North America, where they grew rice, cotton, indigo, and tobacco. On the plantation the slaves cleared the land, timber, and worked the fields
Slavery is a stain in the history of the United States that will always be particularly remembered for the cruelty it exhibited. Up until 1865 slaves were imported in shiploads and treated as if they were merely cattle. On the farms slaves were given no mercy and had to work long, arduous days for nothing. Additionally they were often subject to cruel overseers who would beat and whip them on a regular basis. As brutal and destructive as the institution of slavery was, slaves were not defenseless victims. Through their families, and religion, as well as more direct forms of resistance, Africans-Americans resisted the debilitating effects of slavery and created a vital culture supportive of human dignity.
Beginning around 1500, Europeans started trading slaves. The slaves were for labor purposes. Like farming and working for a master. The slaves made the population percentage go up.
What are slaves and serfs? By definition, a slave is a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another. This kind of treatment to human beings is called slavery and it has been around for centuries. During the 1400’s slaves were taken from Africa and shipped to the Americas. A serf by definition is, a person in a condition of servitude, required to render services to a lord, commonly attached to the lord's land and transferred with it from one owner to another. In Russia the serfs were peasant farmers that were owned by the person who owned the land. Africans made up the larger part of the slave pool in the New World. The first known slaves appeared in Jamestown, Virginia around 1619, and since then slavery existed in America for about the next 200 years. As well as, the Russian Serfdom which consisted of Russian slaves and existed for more than seven centuries until it was emancipated in 1861.
They were punished for not working fast enough, for being late to attend the fields, for violating authority and running away. They experienced different types of punishment. They were whipped, tortured, mutilated, imprisoned or even being sold to another masters and being transferred away from plantation. The most extreme punishment was being murdered.
