I very much agree that a book should never be judged by its cover. But like all things, the way you present yourself to other people does matter, just like first impressions. It’s the act of letting it be all that matters that is a predicament. And there’s always more to someone than meets the eye. For example, judging by my grades, some people naturally assume that grades are all that matter to me. Failing to notice that I love to play and watch sports and be involved in other activities. While at the same time, not knowing how much I love volunteering or helping other people. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s the most surprising thing about me, but it is something that lots of people don’t know. Just like how they also don’t know how much I love
The book freak the mighty is about how you can’t judge people by the cover. For an example I seen my friends best friend walked up to my friend and said she is weird. Then he noticed that it was his best friend being herself. This is kinda like the book when freak thinks max is a tall and mean but when you get to know them they are way different from the way they look on the outside from the inside. This is why you can’t judge a book by its cover because people are different on the inside then on the outside.
People should not just assume others based on looks or size of another person. For example I saw this big and tall person at my school. He also had this dirty type of clothing that you would see in the dirty laundry bin. At first I was scared that he could judge me for being small or pick on me because he is way bigger than others. I actually went to talk to him while on the field because my two friends were talking to him. Since i first talked to him two years ago, we have still been great friends. In the novel Freak the Mighty, author Rodman Philbrick demonstrates the theme being don’t judge a book by its cover.
A Scottish Proverb once said, “Do not judge by appearances; a rich heart may be under a poor coat.” This quote applies to the theme of the novel,“The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle” by Avi. The theme is don’t judge a book by its cover and in the quote, it says to not judge someone by appearances because they might be different than what you think. The first example is shown on page 24, “One always needs a final friend.”
With this series, readers should be able to tell that the series is a fantasy. Parents should know that kids are capable of this ability. When it comes to behavior, it is shown several times in the book that he gets punished for his actions. Readers who disagree with this obviously haven’t actually read the books. Other readers say he “breaks a lower law to keep a higher one.” Another reason this book shouldn’t be banned is because with how the book is written, it could help kids cope with real life situations. For example, it could help kids with deal with close ones dying.
We all have been young, with our parents telling us not to judge a book by its cover. However, we still do. Stereotyping has started to become a huge problem, not just in my hometown but all across the nation. This is happening every day, from someone’s personality to a person’s skin color. Society has put people in groups, and associating certain things, with each type of person. In the story “Brownies,” by, ZZ Packer they judge Troop 909 once they got off the bus off of looks, without thinking about personalities or issues that they might have which brought out the theme of not judging a book by its cover.
Many times in society, people tend to create different stereotypes or view people as “different” or “unusual”. People are constantly judging before considering facts and other valuable information. Sadly, most victims that are being judged are wrongly convicted. The idea of judging and characterizing a person by how he/she looks, seems to be typical and common. Very few people in today’s day and age take the time to discover the true qualities of a person who may be convicted and is either behind bars or being judged for things they have never done. Sometimes, the people who are being as weird, inferior or irrelevant tend to become extremely important and even influential in books, movies and real life. Similarly, in Harper Lee’s novel, To
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. This is a famous saying, and it is used many times when you are checking a book. But this saying also works for people. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee writes about life in Maycomb, and how many characters has some rumors that affected them negatively. Harper Lee also sends this message to the readers, that we can not judge people by their cover. We can not judge them by either, race, rumors, etc. Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and Dolphus Raymond all had bad things said about them. Scout also sees that these people are truly not bad people. The theme is that outward appearances is not always accurate.
Most people have been taught since a very young age to never judge a book by its cover. However, in the movie The Breakfast Club, judging seems to be occurring a lot. The Breakfast Club is about a group of teenagers who have received detention on a Saturday afternoon. While in detention, the students learn a lot about each other that they otherwise didn’t know before. After watching this movie an individual learns that they cannot judge a book by its cover- in other words, no one can judge another character based solely on an appearance.
No matter how open-minded a person may claim to be, everyone makes presumptions on first impressions or rumors. Despite seeing someone for only a split second, people make assumptions about others’ attitude, personality, and character! Usually, people tend to notice things that they feel are grounds to pass judgment upon. The quote “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it” by Harper Lee is a quote that truly signifies how people should perceive others. Rather than judging someone, people should place themselves in their shoes and try to understand their way of thinking
People are judged for their appearance all over the world, every day. People with brown, ragged clothes are assumed to be less intelligent, or homeless. People with long hair are assumed to be female. There are many stereotypes that limit the social actions of many people, and it is not just in real life. Rodman Philbrick shows that these stereotypes are not always true in the book “Freak The Mighty” in the form of Maxwell Cane, Kevin, Loretta, and Iggy Lee. All of those characters are misjudged by others, and in some cases, even by themselves. The message that your appearance does not determine who you are is very important, and applies to everyone everywhere.
A popular idiom that many children are told are a young age is “You can’t judge a book by its cover”. Accordingly, this idiom holds true about people, how their appearance, background, or name do not define who they are. This meaningful message is expressed in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Beastly by Alex Flinn, and Scribbler of Dreams by Mary E. Pearson. These texts reveal the message that if one is willing to look past a prejudice, one can see who another really is, leading to the most unlikely of relationships.
Is it correct to judge a book by its cover? For centuries people have been judged by their
I know this totally sounds cliché, but a lot of people haven't absorbed the fact that "judging a book by its cover" is the worst thing you can do in life.
Many people feel that you can tell a lot about a person by observing what they wear and what they eat. This is not the case. Choice of clothing and eating habits, in no way, allow you to pass judgment on a person. Judging people based on these factors is extremely shallow. What one wears and eats in no way depicts character, behavior, or even intelligence. One simply cannot know a person by looking at them and observing what they eat. Such a thought is ridiculous.
A famous person once said “Judging a person doesn’t define who they are. It defines who YOU are.” Don’t judge someone by how they look comes out in both of the stories “The Lion and the Mouse” by Rob John and “Wonder” by R.J Palacio. Both of the stories have characters that are different from others. Both of the characters get judged, but are very helpful in the end.
