America’s baseball diamonds, soccer fields, hockey rinks, and basketball courts have never been so busy with children. The number of kids involved in an organized sport is not what is so groundbreaking. It’s the way in which children are playing or how their parents are arranging for them to play that may be cause for concern (Ferguson). Much controversy surrounds youth sports with the biggest disagreements coming over parental involvement and the intensity of play. Although there are many benefits for team participation, there is a growing fear that the negatives are starting to outweigh the positives.

The game of football will truly teach those who play it to get back up after they’ve been knocked down, in life and on the field. On Sunday, February 7th, people all over will be attached to their televisions, tuning in for the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl and watching the game that has been around for over 145 years; a game that should be open to all ages, including children. Growing up in a rural community, I have noticed how sports have impacted the people of a community and unified the members of a team. Sports have become apart of everyday life for many Americans, and many high school kids, like myself, take part in the playing of a sport. However, sports have become much more complex. Along with practices, student-athletes are now required to dedicate many more hours of their day to sports, and many do not have enough time to do other activities such as homework. Also, sports have become increasingly dangerous, and more athletes are sustaining injuries such as concussions. In some American high schools, sports have become more important than academics. Knowing that students have huge workloads with hours of homework every night, schools should consider all their options to help their students succeed even if that means banning sports.

Kids should play sports at a young age if they want to because if you good at it you will make money just for doing something you been doing your whole life. Some sports also make you tougher as a kid,and it gives you the chance to see what abilities your child has at a young age. Some people believe that it is dangerous for kids to play sports at a young age because it can make the kid go threw mental and physical pain at a young age. They also can be aggressive on the field or court and then when they get into school they have the same attitude and get in trouble. According to Jonathan, Zimmerman “If he had a son, the president said last year, he’d “have to think long and hard” before letting him play football.
When high schools brought sports in as a class, they had a course of thought behind their doing. Not only are high school sports a blast, but they help us come out of our shells, make new friends, improve our character, and introduce us into great experiences. In high school, throughout the year we are learning a lot, even in sports! Which is exactly the reason we should keep sports in high school.
