In Washington Heights, there is a haunted mansion, considered to be one of the oldest houses in Manhattan. A disturbing history and Washington’s brief stay in the mansion have kept the mansion’s reputation and interest intact. The Morris-Jumel Mansion was originally built by a British official called Roger Morris in 1765. Morris and his wife Mary Phillipse lived together in the magnificent house for only ten years.
The haunting then started to revolve more around daughter, Betsy. Mental Floss states that the family would hear strange tapping and faint singing, identified as an old woman. The children's blankets and pillows were tugged

The Winchester house is one of the oddest and one of most haunted houses in the world. It is located in northern California. It cost over $20,000,000 to make. The owner, Mrs. Winchester, was rich because her family made the Winchester repeating rifle known as “The gun that won the west”. The house has 160 rooms and there are spirits in each room. The builders had to keep remaking rooms that if Mrs. Winchester kept them all she would have 600 rooms. So when they were done with the house, which took over 30 years to make, there were stairs that led to the ceiling and doors that led to walls.
It had 4 full bedrooms and 4 full baths. There was a second floor along with one of the biggest basements I have ever seen. This was a kid’s dream because I could do just about anything I could imagine in that house. Now there was a plus to all of this going on and me being so young. I saw what was going on, but I did not fully understand what was happening.

Day after day, we would pass the mansion building on our way to and from school. Branches of vines and clusters of moss crawled up the sides of the building. I could see the paint, tearing off the walls. People for years have said the mansion building is haunted, but I don’t believe it. They say people have been possessed and killed there. Olivia, of course, believes every detail anyone tells him. To teach him a lesson, we decided to plan to spend the night in the mansion building this Saturday.
There are inexplicable strange sounds and movements, so the building must be haunted: many people are quick to jump to these assumptions that something is haunted or paranormal when it could be something as simple as an old broken down exhaust fan causing it. Carrie Poppy, in the TEDTalk titled “A Scientific Approach to the Paranormal”, talks about the quick judgements in determining the paranormal and how in her lifetime all of them have been debunked by science. She explains that assuming something is paranormal can actually be dangerous. She is the co-host of a popular podcast Oh No, Ross and Carrie!
Of course people would believe that it’s haunted because, I mean come on! It’s a mansion! A lot of mansions are haunted but nothing
