Although many people believe that we should not force young people to follow the rules in their daily lives, I feel that young people are not enough mature to make right decisions and they should follow direction and obey rules to protect themselves from unfortunate future lives. First, taking risk is their first choice of young people because they don't have enough knowledge. Solving lacking of knowledge by taking risk, will put our young children in dangerous place if they don't have strict law to follow. For example, my car hadn't a good condition and its break needed to repair, but my son wanted to drive it. I stopped him by saying that if you make an accident, even it is not your fault, still police will give you a ticket because of the
Research depicts that teenagers fail to notice risks in a situation and completely process other ones when adults thoroughly examine the consequences and focus on the ending outcome. An article by Maia Szalavitz titled “Why the Teen Brain is Drawn to Risk” suggests that teens engage in drunk driving because they don’t completely scan the outcome of the situation, but they fully comprehend the risk of partaking in other activities that adults would immediately dismiss after looking at the possible outcomes such as Russian Roulette(Source F). This shows that adults quickly decide on seemingly dangerous actions because they view the finishing outcome of that activity while teems envision the whole activity and still choose to participate. On top of that, young adults are intrigued by unknown risks rather than known ones. Chris Sharma, a famous rock climber, mentions that he is "looking for new, hard climbs that no one has even thought possible" in a video named “Who Is Chris Sharma?”(Source G). This suggests that, as a young adult, he searches for climbs that have a high risk level that is unknown or ambiguous. Because adolescents have distinct judgment than that of an adults, they handle risky decision-making in another
Adult decisions should have adult consequence many minors don’t think about their actions and how it affects others around them. According to
A teenagers risk taking is a crucial part of their brains development and can significantly benefit their growth as a person. Recent test have shown that in social situations, teenagers are more likely to take risks. In the article, Beautiful Brains, the author, David Dobbs, discussed a study in which teenagers played a game alone, then with people in the room. “When teens drive the course alone, in what Steinberg calls the emotionally ‘cool’ situation of an empty room, they take risks at the same rates that adults do.” (Pbs.org) This shows that teenagers are capable of making good decisions and taking the same amount of risks as a developed adult. So many parents assume that they take unnecessary risk, when really, the teenager knows exactly
As a child becomes a teenager they go from knowing right from wrong to having the ability to do more things without parental supervision. This kind of freedom without having someone to monitor your actions can lead to these young people doing things they
This includes prohibitions against assault and theft or respect for leaders (Source G). Given that students are at an age where they are extremely moldable, it is imperative that they learn these rules in school.
From a young age making choices can be part of learning and children initially are able to choose their play activities, this enables them to have some control over what they do but within the margins of the classroom. Being part of the decision making and understanding why rules exist enables learning and development. As children become a little older they can be more involved in the decision making process such as discussing the rules for the classrooms and playground, this encourages children to think about what they think should and should not happen and why. Also encouraging children to engage with their own learning and think about what their individual goals and targets should be, giving them ownership of their own learning. Another method that is often used with older children is that of the school council, pupils are encouraged to discuss and debate any issues before coming to an agreement which is taken on board by the school. If children and young people are given too many rules without them having any involvement, this can often leads to frustration and resentment, but if they are part of the process they have more understanding of why and what they need to
Our society’s fearful of our kids. I think we don’t know how to set limits on them. They begin to behave in severely outrageous ways, and nobody stops them.
Moreover, kids aren’t held as responsible for the poor choices they make and never learn from mistakes. “Six of my friends have been shot in the last year alone. Ten of them died in car wrecks. I’m afraid of them and they don’t like me because I’m
Yes, Adolescents must follow the law. If an adolescent commits a crime then they are subject to the penalties that applies within the law.
Over time, a little problem can transform into a major situation, in order to avoid that transformation, people within the nation can start by teaching the youth to obey regulations and adults can perform the example.
Children are not always able to make safe choices as they may not be aware of dangers or they may purposefully take a risk in order to push themselves or their friends. This could flag a risk in health and safety or go against regulations. However it is important to allow a little risk to enable the child to learn from it.
People claim that the only way young people will learn their lesson is by having the age lowered, so they can feel a sense of independence. They believe that young people should have a right to drink legally at the age of 18; by modifying this law, it will help to gradually reduce the amount of teenagers breaking the alcohol consumption law because it has become legal. When
Teen drivers have the mentality were they are untouchable when behind the wheel. But it’s obviously to much to handle for them because when it comes to the facts to many teens die a year. In 2007, 4,200 teens in the U.S aged from 15-17 were killed and 400,000 were treated in the E.R for injuries because of car accidents (“Motor vehicle safety, Teen Drivers, page 1”). This just shows how irresponsible teens are while driving. In a national survey 12.5% of all high school students rarely wear seatbelts, this just asking too get hurt in case an accident happens (“Motor vehicle safety, Teen Drivers, page 1”). This just shows how teens have a bad mentality while driving. In 2005, 54% of teen deaths occurred between 3 p.m. and midnight on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. This statistic shows that one more reason why a teen would want there license is to get to a party or go
Hi Ashley, I completely agree with you. Risk taking will always occur throughout life however teens are more prone to it due to the influences from their peers, ‘coolest’ status, and media. I also find it interesting how you became a member of the fire department at such a young age and how it helped influence part of your decision making. Personally, I did not have the same experience as you did because I was never shown or explained on why I should be more careful with the things that I do like driving. I was one of those adolescents who wanted to ‘fit’ in with my friends that I did do some reckless things like racing on a highway. Now I know how bad and stupid that was but at the time I had not been thinking about the possible consequences for my actions, I just wanted to win and make my friends in my car think I was cool.
Have you ever witnessed a teenager taking a risk? Adolescents are taking more risks than ever, such as drinking, vaping, texting while driving, having unprotected sex, and participating in extreme sports. Research suggests that there are, in fact, specific reasons why teens take risks. Three important effects of the drive to take risks in young people include dopamine, peer pressure, and a parents influence on their children.
