In the novel Walk Two Moons by sharon Creech,Phoebe realizes that nobody is perfect which several internal and external forces cause her to realize such as phoebe’s mom leaving ,phoebe seeing her dad crying, and phoebe’s mom comes home looking different. Much LIke phoebe this makes me think how we both realized two different things,i realized that people won't always be there when i need them and phoebe realized that nobody's perfect As i got home from riding on the school bus i ran into my driveway then into my house.I had let out a strong yelp for my mom i heard no response back, i was confused and thought in my head ( were had my mom gone i know she doesn’t have work to day neither any arrens today, then where could my mom be?)Just as i was about to let out another yelp my sister came down stairs, she knew exactly what i was going to ask her. …show more content…
This made her think that her mom won’t always be there when phoebe wants her to be.Here is some evidence from the text Walk Two Moons to show what was going on at that time. “I had a sinking, sinking feeling Prudence started asking a million questions.”This quote tells us readers a little more about how everything was starting to change, especially with phoebe’s feelings. Another external force that causes phoebe to realize that nobody’s perfect is Phoebe seeing her dad crying. This changes phoebe externally because she always thought that her dad doesnt cry and for phoebe to see this really changes the way she thought about people like her dad. Here’s some evidence from walk two moons to show how phoebe changed externally. “But I had never, ever, expected Mr.winterbottom-stiff Mr. winterbottom-to cry.”This is showing how most people saw him as stiff but now Mr.winterbottom is crying and they might not know how to react to such thing
For example, David, an ugly from the smoke, says “ The lesions aren’t an accident , Tally. They're part of the operation, just like all the bone sculpting and skin scraping. It's part of the way being pretty changes you.” (Westerfeld 265). Another example to show this would be when Tally asks, “Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look…” ,and David responds with “No, it changes the way you think” (Westerfeld 268).
Why did Holden finally decide to see Phoebe after walking around the lagoon in Central Park?
Sal says that the story starts when her father unexpectedly makes sal go along with him to Euclid Ohio. They stop in front of a house and her father explains that this is where Margaret lives. Sal says she then sees a face in a window, a girls face. This is where her adventure begins, a tragic, wonderful, life-changing adventure. Sal explains that Phoebe’s story is in many ways the same as hers. She says that “Beneath Phoebe's story was another one. Mine.” (Creech, 3).
Maggie is described as being unattractive, very shy and self-conscious about the way she looked. Maggie always looked down at herself and thought she could not compare to her sister. She thinks her sister lives a life that she missed on, by getting an education and having the finer things in life. The scars she has on her body from the house fire done more than just scare her skin but has scared her soul too. Maggie, mother talks about her daughter in a way a person would think no mother should ever do.“ Have you ever

First, when Phoebe changes is when her mom leaves her and her family. Mrs.winterbottem just leaves her family. So Phoebe was freaking out and she said "my mother has disappeared, don't tell eny one. Don't tell a soul" Phoebe said because her mom is gone.thats one reason why Phoebe has changed.
What is abandonment? Abandonment is the action or fact of abandoning or being abandoned. How does it impact the lives of children? Children who do not get their needs met often grow up with low self-esteem, emotional dependency, helplessness, and other issues. The term “child abandonment” is a crime committed by parents because the child who is abandoned doesn’t know the reason why he or she was forsaken. The child thinks that their parent will take care of them. The book, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, is a story about a girl named Sal who was abandoned by her mother. Similarly, in the article on abandonment “Perspectives on Fear of Abandonment Causes, Effects, and Option” he showed us how abandonment impacts kids and adults such as, the
When Holden arrives, he finds Phoebe sleeping in D.B.’s room. "Holden!" she said right away. She put her arms around my neck and all. She's very affectionate. I mean she's quite affectionate, for a child. Sometimes she's even too affectionate. I sort of gave her a kiss”(161). When Holden arrives at his home for the first time since he left Pencey, he is tightly embraced by Phoebe, who is very happy to see him. Phoebe is the only person who loves Holden unconditionally. Phoebe is able to love Holden even when he makes poor decisions. Here we see how important to she is to him and he is to her. In this situation, Phoebe is very affectionate towards Holden because they love and appreciate each other would be when she sees her child after a long time. Phoebe and Holdens conversation changes very rapidly, from catching up to a deep, confrontational conversation lead by Phoebe. "You don't like anything that's happening." It made me even more depressed when she said that. "Yes I do. Yes I
To prove this point, this evidence shows the effect on Phoebe of the lunatic and Phoebe’s mom “On the bench was Phoebe’s mother, and she was kissing the lunatic… Phoebe was stunned and angry, but she was braver than I was” (Creech 222 - 223) This showed Phoebe was trying to learn to brush off actions and people, yet she also learned that people had different feelings and perspectives than her and not everything would go her way. This is important because Phoebe had mixed emotions, or even no emotions towards her mom and her new brother, causing her to not be happy when her mother came home. To add on, this evidence also supports Phoebe’s conflict with her mother and the lunatic, “I think Phoebe nearly fainted dead on the carpet… there was Mike Bickle, Phoebe’s potential lunatic, in her own living room.” (Creech 232) This showed how Phoebe thought the lunatic was scary enough that she would faint, and this also showed her personality because even though Phoebe’s mother and the lunatic were related, she still did not like him. This is important because Phoebe learned that not everyone saw a lunatic in an ordinary person like Mike Bickle, and because of this there was be disagreement. To summarize, this evidence verified how an external force like a character caused conflicts for
“...I feel like I could disappear. I feel like I am breaking.” (Knowles, 166) This quote is from a book that impacted my life, and the way i see things. “See You at Harry’s” is a book about a young girl named Fern. Fern leads a somewhat normal life, she has two brothers and an older sister, but when disaster strikes she feels like it’s all her fault. This story taught me two valuable lessons. One, bad things happen and it’s no one's fault, and two, everyone is different and that’s okay.
I think that deep down Phoebe thought it was nice too, and she wished her own parents would act more like the Finneys. She couldn 't admit this, though, and in a way, I liked this about Phoebe – that she tried to defend her family. (Page 48) Even though Sal gets so annoyed and mad at Phoebe and her behavior, she is always able to see the good in her. And hey, what are true friends for
As the girl continues on to grow up she is continually facing challenges with her confidence and thus affecting her emotionally and physically. For instance, one of the line states that “ she went to
She finally realized what being optimistic meant. Dylan was so happy, so at ease because she never criticized people or lashed out at them. She was forgiving and kind. Gwen knew what she had to do. She ran around school, stopping to make compliments to everyone at her school, and the bees started to disappear. “You look beautiful today.” POOF. “What a pretty dress.” POOF. She complimented strangers on the sidewalk, greeting people with smiles, and stopping to give money to the homeless. Everywhere she spread happiness. When she arrived at her house, she looked in the mirror in the hallway. The bees disappeared, but in their place, were beautiful butterflies, with bright colors and entrancing patterns on their wings. Gwen was given a brand new perspective on life. The next day, everywhere she went, positive features seemed to glow. She didn’t have to force compliments anymore, they just came naturally. At lunch, she walked out of the cafeteria and headed towards the table that she usually sits at. As she walked, people greeted her with smiles. But the one difference that seemed to show the most, was that she was able to see other people’s bees and butterflies. Some people had bees, some people had butterflies, and some even had both, and when she looked across the quad, she saw Dylan, with the largest cloud of butterflies of them
It was a bone chilling January night; my mom received a call at about 11:15 PM, a call that changed my life forever. My Aunt June was on the other line. She was crying so hard my mother could barely understand her. Through the sobbing my mom finally understood that Brian, my cousin, had been in a horrible accident and she didn’t know how bad it was. My mother jumped out of the bed after she hung up the phone. She screamed up the stairs at my sister and me; it was a nerve shrilling scream. I could hear fear in her voice. My mom was always yelling at us growing up if we forgot to do something. She would even get us out of bed to finish something that wasn’t done completely. This particular
It was May 17th, 2011, it was a normal school day when my brother and I were told that my mom called to say that she was picking us up early. I was anxious, wondering why we were going home early and breaking our usual routine. When my mom came to get us, the first thing that I noticed was that she didn’t greet us with her usual smile. I was 9 years old, very observant, but not able to sense what was to come. We got into the car, when I asked my mom where we were going hoping
