He was only 12 years old, when this tragedy happened, he had so much potential to live for. Roger, in the City Of Milwaukee, was living in a residential home in the inner city. He was poor, Hispanic, and an American. He dressed somewhat casual, had blonde hair, dark skinned, and most of the time, he seemed mysterious by some. From the time he was 12 years old , he was bullied day by day. What seemed to be harsh, and brutal, the reality of this seemed to be okay, seemed as if this was tolerable, in the extraordinary description of Milwaukee. Throughout the years of his life, Roger wrote in his diary on his birthday, December 31, on how his life went and explained the most critical part of every month in his diary regarding the year 2012. Every little detail that he wrote, teared him apart inside. Roger himself was devastated, and at age 12, something happened that left the world in shocked, flabbergasted. Was the world stunned by his actions? How could that be? What did he do to cause the world to stop spinning? December 31th, 2011 (11 years old, won’t start to get bullied into the following year) Dear Diary, To recap on the last 364 days of my life, it seemed as if I was dazed by all the happiness I enjoyed. I was perfectly overjoyed, I was amazed at how my life has been. In addition, my birthday was so spectacular that, I opened up plenty of presents, I ate numerous pieces of cake and had a blast. Every moment I parish and I enjoyed it will all my heart.
F. Scott Fitzgerald is in many ways one of the most notable writers of the twentieth century. His prodigious literary voice and style provides remarkable insight into the lifestyles of the rich and famous, as well as himself. Exploring themes such as disillusionment, coming of age, and the corruption of the American Dream, Fitzgerald based most of his subject matter on his own despicable, tragic life experiences. Although he was thought to be the trumpeter of the Jazz Age, he never directly identified himself with it and was adverse to many of its manifestations.
In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, “The Great Gatsby,” he mirrors his life and the people in
The Birthday by Mike McCormick seemed to start out strange at first but as the reader keeps reading the story it gets more bizarre, and as a result it could change the reader's perspective on things, resulting in a whole new point of view of life in the future. It’s a short story about a kid who is having a birthday party, and his dad who just happens to drop to the ground and starts spewing smoke out of his nose and mouth, and an occasional spark would occur around him, at first one might think he was struck by lightning or electricity but that's not the case here. The kid's mom then quickly got everyone inside and decided to call Uncle Steve, at first the reader might think, maybe he is a doctor, maybe he knows how to fix this strange problem the dad was having. But all we knew was that he is just their uncle. When uncle steve arrived he asked the Nate if he wanted to go help fix his dad, as uncle steve was checking on Nate's dad he seemed to be using strange methods and tools like screwdrivers and pliers, while also tugging at his arms, wrenching at something underneath his armpit, and sticking his finger between his teeth feeling for something, but somehow that made him work again.
Thankfully, most of us don’t have or will never have cancer. Cancer is very common, but we are lucky if we never see someone die from cancer. We all know someone with cancer, but maybe not someone close to you. That wasn’t the case for Pro Bowler Larry Fitzgerald Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals.
One’s childhood has a lasting impact on their entire life. Moore’s upbringing and the loving family he was born into, no matter how trivial it may seem, greatly contributed to his success. Wes seemingly grew up the same as any other kid in the Bronx – in a single-parent household, surrounded by bad influences… what separated him from the crowd? His support system: his family, and their ultimate support and sacrifices made all the difference. As a teenager, Wes seemed to be going down the wrong path. He constantly skipped school, his academic failures were overwhelming, and he was even arrested for vandalism. In the case of the other Wes, his family simply let these actions slide, and decision after decision ultimately landed him with a life sentence in prison. The author Wes’s mother, however, refused to allow this behavior to continue. As a method of intervention, she forced Moore to attend Valley Forge, and in doing so, probably saved his career. The extent of his family’s sacrifice was evident on page 95 when Wes realized that “my grandparents took the money they had in the home in the Bronx, decades of savings and mortgage payments, and gave it to my mother
“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us.… Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.… And one fine morning—” (Fitzgerald 180). In this quote from The Great Gatsby, Nick attempts to describe the nature of Gatsby’s hope and draws the parallel to all of our hopes and dreams that we have as Americans. F. Scott Fitzgerald, an American novelist and short-story writer, was an amazing author who used his work, just like in the quote above, to write about the Roaring Twenties and the hopes of Americans during that time. His earlier works show an idealistic feeling for the potentials of life at college and in “The East,” he attained the sobriquet of “the spokesman of the Jazz Age.”

August 2011, the most special and most meaningful year of my life started off. I got to know students from different countries during the year in the United States. Besides broadening my horizon, I also tried to show and explain to my new friends how beautiful and wonderful our culture is. I believe I have become a person who is more independent and mature. I can now face my own flaws and make amends of my mistakes. Besides facing my own flaws, I am willing to face all kinds of challenges in my life.
