Faith In Elie Wiesel's Night

Night is a dramatic book that tells the horror and evil of the concentration camps that many were imprisoned in during World War II. Throughout the book the author Elie Wiesel, as well as many prisoners, lost their faith in God. There are many examples in the beginning of Night where people are trying to keep and strengthen their faith but there are many more examples of people rebelling against God and forgetting their religion.

For many people in the world they have their own religions and beliefs. For some this can be a great part of their life. With it being such a great part with their life, it might be the only thing keeping them going through the day. Keeping faith can be hard during hardship some stages some people might experience would be devotion, questioning faith and finally losing faith.

Throughout the book Night by Elie Wiesel, Wiesel loses faith from the beginning until the end, it’s continuous. Eliezer begins to lose his faith when he witnesses the hanging of the pipel, Elie was forced to watch the corpse of kids whilst he was allowed to eat dinner. "What are You, my God? I thought angrily. . . What does Your grandeur mean, Master of the Universe, in the face of all this cowardice, this decay, and this misery?"(pg 66) This is when Eliezer loses his faith indefinitely. Imagine about 1.5 million of kids killed in the holocaust and up to 6 millions Jews died. The people in the holocaust has to question their faith of all the apprehension that made people grip on their faith in their crisis. Many Jewish people in the book Night, by Elie Wiesel had seen and been through the shocking horrors that shaken their faith. In the book people tried to survive the chamber while maintaining their faith. Shocking events that are currently happening in today's society that made people struggle to maintain faith they once had because of an act of violence, war, and death. In the book Night the theme “struggle to maintain faith” is admissible in today society.

As one reads Night, one sees the Jews questioning their faith due to the silence of their God during the fire and destruction of the Nazi armies.

As we turn the pages in the book, we see how tough it is for the characters to hold onto their faith. Even the most devoted Jews lost faith in God, like how the rabbi who believed that God was no longer with them (Wiesel 76).
