This fall concert was a good learning experience for the Women's Choir and myself. I think that each piece had both positive and negative aspects of them and I also think seeing other better choirs perform helped us to know what we want to become and give us the motivation we need to improve. Our first song was Silver Creek Lullaby. In this song I feel like we started and ended together as a group very well. For my section, the second sopranos, measure 12 through 14 was hard for as we practiced because the altos and first sopranos were louder than our own sound, but as we sang in the concert, I was proud of us because we sang and our voices were loud enough to be heard, but soft enough to make a beautiful harmony. On the other hand, our note for the beginning of sail on measure 24, took us a moment to find the right note, and in the process of finding the note we slid up the E. We also took time to find our note the second time through on measure 8. One other thing I felt like we could have improved was our rhythmic accuracy and our diction especially on the word sleep. Overall for this song I felt like there was much room for improvement but we did very well for our first concert. …show more content…
For this piece I felt like we had very good rhythmic accuracy throughout the whole song. I also feel like we had very good staggered breathing and it helped the songs flow. Our tone was good throughout the song but it could have been improved by us opening up more and giving it a more “opera” sound. We also missed some words especially at the ending and starting at measure 29 through that stanza we were a little timid and not sure of ourselves. I think we knew the notes but weren't sure of the words entirely even though we knew them. This song was also pretty good
Overall I actually enjoyed the piece more than I thought I would. It had a nice tempo that allowed listeners to be engaged and even when the volume dropped the violins played a softer texture as if they were inviting you to listen closer and pay more attention. Generally, the theme was also joyful which I took notice of and enjoyed. Lastly, I didn’t notice any musical mistakes, and thought the piece was well played.
Additionally, each note was exact and accurate, as well as the rhythms. Each individual solo was flawless with precise entrances. All instruments executed nice releases with no sloppy sounds or breathing. Each player seemed to master interpreting articulations because
The first song that was played was “Into the Clouds” which in an overture. Everyone played the same dynamic at the beginning which made it sound great. The baritones made a nice decrescendo into the quieter section, but the could have pulled back a little for the solo to stand out more. Measures 48-56 were only forte but the band played it at fortissimo. At measure sixty six the band played louder which was a nice different dynamic from the rest. Overall, the band could have played with some more different dynamics.
The experience was not new to me as I have been in music nearly my entire life. i did however expect this concert to be as boring as the first one but I was actually very pleasant mostly because I just liked the music they played better. In my opinion I do think this type of music is underappreciated mostly because of the amazing amount of skill and hard work that goes into it. When I look at famous the most famous performers (lady gaga) and think of these musicians, in my mind there is no doubt that the actual musicians such as the ones I saw in this concert at least be half as famous, but unfortunately they don’t even come close. These talented and
The opera was extremely impressive, overall it was a one-of-a-kind experience. If you haven’t seen an opera I would personally recommend it. I am constantly in awe by the resources and opportunities the Jacobs School of Music is able to provide. This was in fact the first opera I have attended and they undoubtedly exceeded my expectations. The music,
While I think there were some mistakes, like bowings and being out of tune, I think the overall performance sounded good. Only a few individuals made small mistakes, but because it was a small ensemble it was noticeable. While practicing with the small ensemble, I think it was hard for everyone to agree on things because there were so many different opinions and voices. I also think we should have practiced more at home because individual instruments were out of tune and/or not on the right rhythm. I also think i was hard to practice all together and get work done because so many different people needed help on specific sections which was time consuming and could have just been practiced at home. Yet I think we all did a good job staying together as a group with our tempo and looking at our first violinist for cues. I highly enjoyed the ability to chose our own song because it was a song that almost all of us enjoyed playing and had fun learning. I also liked when the other groups gave us feedback on what we could improve in our song, because it gave an outside opinion and was very
Parts that I think still need work are dynamics. I did not hear a big difference throughout the song. Also at the beginning it was not solid. Successes that I had in this piece are that I for the most part stayed
Through the chamber ensemble i’ve learned to appreciate the different instruments that are being played and it allows me to listen more to their music. It’s great to see these people are focused on their music and their dedication towards what they do. It was great experiencing a new concert full of new instruments and actually hearing someone sing. This displays how important music is from back in the day to modern
The next song I’ll like to talk about is one of the songs performed by Chamber Choir, which is “Astonishing”. The song begins off by three solos done by 3 different girls, who did an incredible with their parts. After their part the rest started to sing and that’s when things had a few problem but was honestly good. Some of the unison with the girls was not always there, but they were pushed along with the vocals of some of the girls with more powerful voices. The guys were not as heard, they are also out numbered, but still they should be heard more often than they were.
The tone in the beginning to measure 14 was exceptional. Every part could specifically be heard really well. There sounded like there was a certain kind of confidence that was super evident. Measures 18- 21 the lower part was very authentic to the style of the piece and the other instruments were accommodating. At the key change (m. 26) all the harmony and melody parts came together and it was glorious.
I went to the concert ‘Convocation.’ This concert would have had to be my favorite out of the three concerts I attended this semester. I liked how they included the cello into some of the songs. I really liked the ‘Two Old French Dances.’ Watching her play the cello was incredible. She did a really amazing job playing those two songs. The ‘Chanson de Neige’ was a really beautiful song. Along with ‘Tango Tragique.’ These songs had me smiling and almost wanting to dance to the music. ‘Sebben crudele’ was my least favorite song through the concert. I didn’t like the tone of the song and I just felt like I didn’t connect at all with it. ‘O del Mio amato ben’ was a good song to listen to and I am glad they picked that song to sing in this concert.
The first piece of this musical was very peaceful. The tempo wasn’t too fast in this piece. The occasional sounds of the drums enhanced this first act, and I liked the constant back and forth between the violins and other string instruments. The second act started off very gentle and I enjoyed the opera singer because the music exemplified
My initial reaction to this piece was that it gave off a creepy and mysterious vibe. The plucking of the stringed instruments felt as though we were tiptoeing through a horror story. When the tempo got faster, I felt the suspense and my heart racing. I enjoyed the abrupt stop at the end of the piece because it was unexpected considering how fast the music was going and was a pleasant
-The saxophones did a great job at slowing down the song for Somewhere Over The Rainbow”
This is honestly one of the most technical pieces I have performed with the orchestra, which features viola solos in several of the movements. Upon moving up in to 1st Violin from last semester, it is a bit more intense especially in a small orchestra. Everyone, especially the audience can hear you, so there is no room for mistakes or technical issues, either you practiced or it shows that you did not. Back to the piece, it contains four movements: Prelude, Intermezzo, Nocturne, and Finale. The first movement, sets the mood by starting off slow in a soothing manner, and then within the first violins, the melody is first introduced. Around the middle of the Prelude, it sounds very nature like, almost like if you can hear birds chirping off into the distance from the first violins. Afterwards, the Intermezzo comes in very cheerful manner, in a more dance type of feeling, after the key change it is very melodic. The third movement is interesting as a Nocturne, very different from the two beginning movements. Not sad like most Nocturnes but more mysterious, it’s very pretty. Lastly, the Finale is great because it features all the other movement’s melodies in one piece. Changing to different tempos and learning to cooperate as an orchestra have really been developed because of this piece, and I feel we did an excellent
