My family history has influenced who I am today due to the fact that I have descended from a long line of artistic people. On my mother’s side, there have been many who have worked with painting, music, drawing, dancing, and even film production. From day one in school I have loved the arts and have found that it is my passion. Both my parents have been highly supportive of wanted to continue my love of dance during and after college and also with pursuing it as a career. Not only that, but I have lived in Pittsboro, North Carolina all my life and stayed within the school systems in the county moving from elementary, to middle, to now high school. I have been very fortunate to have gone to schools that are highly oriented with the arts. However, it was an amazing decision and I am beyond thankful at how marching band has pushed me to grow in my music ability, and in teaching me many life skills that will benefit me in my future. Learning within a school system involved in the arts has not only grown my love for music but also my love for dance. Before high school, I had never taken a dance class. Since joining the dance program I have fallen in love with dance. It has given me a way to healthily express my feelings and thoughts and has pushed me to learn new ways in which my body functions. I have choreographed my own pieces and have performed many times. These educational opportunities in the arts have opened up a path of dance that I am determined to stick with for my future. To go with my educational opportunities, my environment, being that I live in central North Carolina, has opened many opportunities that have shaped who I am today and pushed me to what I want to become in the future.
