Decent Essays

Family, Personal Background and Early Life St. Joan of Arc was born around 1412, in Domremy, France, which is now known as ‘Domremy-la-Pucelle’, which means ‘Domremy, [of] the maiden’ after Joan of Arc. Joan lived in Domremy village with her peasant family, father: Jacques of Arc, mother: Isabelle Romee. Joan also had four siblings, three brothers: Jacquemin, Pierre, and Jean, and a sister: Catherine. Isabelle Romee was said to have told and helped her daughter understand the Christian faith, as Joan of Arc - Maid of Heaven states, Joan once quoted: “My mother taught me the Pater Noster (Our Father), Ave Maria, and the Credo. Nobody taught me my belief, if not my mother.”
What was Happening in France in St. Joan of Arc’s Time The Hundred Years War was happening when St. Joan of Arc was alive. It had started in 1337 and was to end in 1453. The war was basically little battles and a few years of peace. The war itself started when King Edward III (the 3rd) of England said that he was the proper King of France. This was because his mother, Isabella, was born in Paris, France, and so King Edward III believed he was the proper King of France. St. Joan of Arc was involved in the situation because the people of France did not want to become part of England. So, in 1428, when Orleans, a city of France, was being sieged (surrounded and unable to get out) by the English, St. Joan of Arc saved the city with her army.
