Or think in the way that is required for the job. As a special agent you will be required to make life or death decisions in a matter of seconds and they are expected to have a positive outcome. You have a quick bag packed and ready to go at a moments notice, no questions. And you must be willing to move anywhere in the Bureaus jurisdiction. There is no possible way to be even slightly good at this job if you don't posses all of the characteristics needed. No exceptions. For example; you are pursuing a suspect that is on foot running down a neighborhood. You need to be able to not only chase them and keep up with them, but also to dodge objects that could potentially be put in your way. You could be running and as you are passing a driveway, a car starts backing out. What would you do? Stop and wait, go around, or would you continue at the same speed and jump right over the hood in order to remain right behind the suspect. The answer to that is obvious. Another example is being able to handle numerous responsibilities at once. An explanation to this is when your case load get up to 8 cases. Some people might think that some of them may seem similar being that they both have similar evidence or even the situation may seem similar. At this point it starts getting dangerous. You absolutely have to be able to see each case completely separate as if though the others don't exist. This is because you could come up with a solution to a case that is false just because the other case you had that was similar ended up like that. Each case is delicate and should be treated with professionalism and free from any bias. This isn't an easy task. Perfect example as to why only a select few would be able to handle the
Education in law, accounting, languages or science was an earlier requirement that Hoover revived. Any agent already in office who was not qualified or who had a criminal record was fired (Denenberg 31). Background checks, interviews, and physical testing became required for all new applicants (Directors). Hoover developed extensive training programs and followed the requirements himself. All agents had to be in top physical condition, and be of outstanding appearance and character. Drinking alcohol was prohibited on and off duty (Denenberg 35). Hoover held discipline as the most important trait. He saw “… an undisciplined law enforcement agency as a menace to society” (Hoover 39). For himself and the people of the FBI, Mr. Hoover set rigid standards of personal behavior. Many agents who were reluctant to work under the strict guidelines quit (Denenberg 31). He never apologized for the high standards for agents; he saw it as a necessity for the FBI’s success (Hoover 41). To this day, Hoover’s contribution to law enforcement management and training make him one of the greatest in the law enforcement field.

With the word “investigation” already in the FBI’s title it is a given that they will be investigating crimes, but so do the other police units such as the State Police. Investigating crimes is very important to do in order to be able to find the person responsible for the crime, and depending on the severity of the crime both the FBI and the State Police could have to work together to find evidence and information about the suspect. If a crime is severe enough for the FBI to get involved then, assumingly, there would need to be as many people to help investigations as
Understanding the timeline of the background check process is critical. Most people seeking employment or moving overseas have a date they plan to get on the airplane and/or a day they are expected to start school or work. The FBI background check can take anywhere from 4-16 weeks (one to four months) and, as of October 12, 2013, the FBI only delivers documents through USPS first class mail. Due to a recent IT transition, the FBI currently lists it average processing time between 11 and 13 weeks, not including mailing.
