There is one text example that contains all three of these figurative languages. “The big kids call me Mercury cause i'm the swiftest thing in the neighborhood.” This quote is said by in the beginning of the story and it was said by Hazel when describing herself. This quote was also repeated through the story when Hazel was talking about the quarter-meter relay. “And tomorrow i'm subject to run the quarter-meter relay all by myself and come in first, second, and third. The big kids call me Mercury cause i'm the swiftest thing in the neighborhood.” This quote is also foreshadowing the fact that Hazel is really fast and will be able to win the quarter-meter relay. “In first place--Miss Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker” This quote is also a metaphor because Hazel is being compared to a Mercury because even though she is skinny she is still faster than anyone else in her neighborhood. The only character that is part of the story is Hazel. The reason this quote is important is because it's repeating throughout the story which is foreshadowing the victory of Hazel by comparing her with Mercury. This quote means that Hazel is eventually very fast and can possibly be the one to win the quarter-meter
In the short story "The Ascent", the author, Ron Rash, uses figurative language throughout the story that urges the reader to believe that the the whole story revolves around a theme of being unlucky. First, Ron Rash has added the simile, “A woman was in the passenger seat, her body bent forward like a horseshoe” (Rash 280). For centuries, horseshoes have been associated with luck when they are upright. However when horseshoes are bent over that is associated with luck running out. In the story, the fifth grade protagonist, Jared, is wandering in the woods and stumbles upon an airplane that crashed a week before. When Jared walks in, he sees the dead woman, bent over like a horseshoe, which represents her luck running out. Considering

In the story Raymond’s run squeaky loves to run. Squeaky is training for the run that she has one for the last 4 years. And all the runners in it squeaky does not. Because she is competing with them .All the runners in it like to run just like squeaky. Every year they try and try and she don’t know that the runners are getting there felling’s hurt but squeaky don’t think nothing about it.Then the day comes race day. Squeaky wins it again and she realizes that Raymond was running right beside her on the other side of the fence and Gretchen right beside her huffing and puffing like a pro does then squeaky realizes that she don’t have to hate her competitors and that she can do whatever she wonts if she believes in herself. Then she thinks
In the story “Raymond’s run” the character Raymond actually runs and his proud little sister the track star Squeaky found out that he’s just as fast as her. Now this I the story bring a lot of speculation about whether or not Raymond become a runner like squeaky. I’m here to tell you that he will in fact be a runner maybe even better than squeaky and I’m going to tell you why, so let’s get started.
The song “Roar”, by Katy Perry, was very popular in 2013. It told the story of a girl who faced her challenges and was able to roar, or have confidence, and determination, louder than ever. This relates to what Squeaky, the main character in “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara. The plot in “Raymond's Run”, is about how Squeaky struggles to show her family that running is important, to take care of Raymond and to beat Gretchen in the race. Through her struggles, Squeaky developed lots of confidence. In both “Roar” and “Raymond's Run” the main characters fight through their struggles and gain determination as life goes on.
Raymond has some mental problems, and he when he runs, it looks very awkward. People laugh at him, and Raymond gets very upset. Squeaky, Raymond’s older sister, tells people to stop making fun of him. Squeaky wins a school race, and Raymond runs outside the fence with her the whole race. She realizes that she can train Raymond to run. People won’t be able to laugh at him if he is
She takes her running very serious and works extremely hard to win all of the races, she loves the competition and the excitement of it all. In the story “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky has ran every race since kindergarten and is prepared to do just the same at the May Day races. When the new girl Gretchen shows up and was planning on competing in the race things get rough, people were telling Squeaky “ That new girl should give you a run for your money.” (Bambara,28)
In a neighborhood in New York city, Squeaky is preparing an annual race that she always participates in and wins. Her brother Raymond is running with her as she is practicing, she is very protective towards him because he is “different”. She is running against the new girl Gretchen and people are saying she might get a run for her money. As the shots are fired to start the race, She notices Raymond running alongside keeping up with her and how fast he is. She never really noticed how fast he is until now and when she looks back at it, he always keeps up with her on her runs and how quickly he made it over the fence to congratulate her. She thinks he should join the race and next year and she wants to be his “coach”. After the race, she talks
In the beginning of the story, Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker, also known as Squeaky, loves to run. For example, Squeaky trots around the block with her brother and also does breathing exercises while walking to the store with her mom. Squeaky is a very confident girl and runner. She is also very brave. What I mean by that is Squeaky has only one job, to take care of her older brother Raymond. In order to do that she has to be very brave. For example, one day, while doing a breathing exercise, Gretchen and her sidekicks came up and one of Gretchen’s sidekicks made a comment on how big Raymond’s head is. Well Squeaky had to be brave and stand up for Raymond because Raymond is a little slow on things. Near the end there is a big race,
The narrator explains that she has both a mom and a dad but also has a brother that is mentally disabled. Squeaky is in charge of Raymond and watches him. At the beginning of the story I think that she thought that it is hard to watch him especially because they live in the city, for example “All I have to do is mind my brother Raymond, which is enough,” and but towards the end of the story I think that she realized that even though he might be annoying running could lead to a very bright future for Raymond.
In the story Raymond’s Run, a girl nicknamed Squeaky talks about people in her life. Within this story, she talks about how she loves her brother for who he really is, but strongly dislikes people who are not honest about who they are. Squeaky knows what is truly important in life, which is being true to yourself. She does not care for what people think of her when she works hard to practice running. Squeaky also accepts her brother, Raymond, for who he is. One of her classmates, Cynthia Procter, works hard to accomplish tasks, but unlike Squeaky, she does not let people know that she is a determined worker. Squeaky is true to herself, and she should be.
Squeaky feels fortunate to take care of Raymond because she is able to make sure Raymond gets the respect and care he deserves. For example, in the short story “Raymond’s Run”, the text talks about how Squeaky would much rather fight the person making fun of Raymond than letting them talk. This exemplifies the fact that Squeaky believes Raymond is a good person despite his health issues, and no one should be bullying him. Thus, Squeaky feels the need to stand up for her “younger brother.” To add on, Squeaky believed that even if she did not win the race, Raymond can grow up to be the next best runner. The text revealed Squeaky’s enthusiasm with Raymond’s ability to climb the fence and run swiftly. This leads on to the fact that Squeaky
Have you ever heard that you’re not good enough, or, not cool, have you ever had to deal with things in and out of school, In the short story “Raymond's Run”,(Toni Cade Bambara), A young girl named Squeaky lives in the lower parts of New York City. Her friends know her as a runner, but the new girl might take her crown, and her friends.
Raymond’s Run is a short story written by Toni Bambara Cade in 1960. The story is about a girl named Hazel, and her brother Raymond who is “not quite right”. Hazel loves running and she is always first in competitions. She is always looking out for Raymond and takes him with her when she is practicing, and also to the May Day race where Raymond starts running in his own unique style which changes Hazel’s view on Raymond, herself and the people around her.
Figurative language tends to be written in the first person about a very intense and or private experience. In this story " Birches " By Robert Frost, there are many times when parts of figurative language appear. " When i see birches bend left and right Across the of straighter darker trees, i like to think some boy's beens swinging them " is a use of metaphor because he is saying that the branch swinging by the wind but he says he likes to think theres sum boy swinging them. Also in that phrase he uses another piece of figurate language by using " like " which means he is using a simile. More examples of the use of simile's are when he stated " As the breeze rises, and turned many colored. " and " As the stir cracks and crazes their enamel."
