This movie based off of a southern family living in Memphis, Tennessee will show you a true taste of southern hospitality. In every film you have your list of characters along with their personalities and most importantly their motives. Along with the certain qualities of every character comes the ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos which stands for the goodness of a film and/or ethics goes hand in hand with the sender of a film, Pathos which is the passion and emotions of a film which goes hand in hand with the receiver, and lastly the logos which is the logic/information that sends a message. Each rhetoric sends a message and surely puts a movie together.

This movie Directed by Paul Haggis who also directed Academy Award Winning "Million Dollar Baby" and had also won an Academy Award for this movie as well puts a twisted story in this film. This movie is trying to symbolize what goes on in the world today in regards to racism and stereotypes. He tries to make a point on how societies view themselves and others in the world based on there ethnicities. This movie intertwines several different people's lives, all different races, with different types of beliefs. Such ethnicities include Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and Middle Eastern. This movie includes conflicts on both sides of the picture from cops and criminals as well

1. What are the main themes, politically and socially, that are portrayed in the film?

This film was very tear-jerking and inspirational. There were many hidden symbols and themes throughout and it was interesting to view it from the perspective of an English child living in a country other than his own. It didn’t focus on one particular issue, but thoughtfully portrayed all aspects of P.K.’s life,

It analyses scientific, historic and social information to decipher how and why the myth of race developed. The film maintains that race persists as a category of social difference and inequality even though it is socially constructed and not biological. This is because the notion of race is ingrained in everyone’s brains, even the non-racist brains to conclude there is a hierarchy. The film indicates that race is an idea that we ascribe to biology, as well racial lines justify past and present wrongs; slavery, imperialism and genocide. As well, a lot of scientific work on race was individually and culturally influenced, therefore social differences become naturalized or biological i.e. infant mortality, living conditions etc- even in today’s society we ignore poverty and social neglect of health; not real science. Race does not relate to genetic diseases a way to show that we are able to have or not have

The last of the Mohicans is an adventure novel about Native American interactions with English, French, and frontier settlers during the French and the Indian war in 1757. The background of the novel is based on the French, and the British army who are fighting against each other and both have Indian allies to assist them. Nature, as itself, is introduced to the reader as a character among all the other characters which the author explains in good detail. Of all the characters in the novel, Hawkeye and Magua play an important role, Hawkeye as the hero who saves the day and Magua, as the villain whose appearance brings fear and terror to the reader. The story changes its pattern as soon as Magua appears on the scene and executes his evil ambition and plans.

The Indians are finally presented in the movie by the screen scanning across a wide-open desert very peaceful and deserted. In the middle of all this silence the camera fell upon a skeleton of a human that we assume the Indians killed. This is how the movie sets the tone for how we are going to think about the Indians. They play with the stereotype that all us Americans think are true about the Indians. At first we think that we were right, but the story does not end there.

In this movie, one may observe the different attitudes that Americans had towards Indians. The Indians were those unconquered people to the west and the almighty brave, Mountain Man went there, “forgetting all the troubles he knew,” and away from civilization. The mountain man is going in search of adventure but as this “adventure” starts he finds that his survival skills are not helping him since he cant even fish and as he is seen by an Indian, who watches him at his attempt to fish, he start respecting them. The view that civilization had given him of the west changes and so does he. Civilization soon becomes just something that exists “down there.”

The Last of the Mohicans is a movie in which a young white man, who also happens to be adopted by a Mohican and his son, set out to save the two daughters of English leader, colonel Munro; who have been kidnapped. Along the way the men run into trouble when they come across a war between the French and the Indians. Hawkeye (the white man) wants ever so badly to help out in the war as much as possible but throughout their journey the three men run into very difficult times/obstacles. On top of all of the chaos, Hawkeye believes that he has found love with one of the daughters of colonel Munro.

In the way it is visually astounding is only a bonus, it is perfectly executed and displayed. I feel as if this is a masterpiece because of the way it tackles discrimination, not only from the ‘white side’ view but from the how the Native populace feels toward the invaders. It exposes the tender side of two worlds colliding, such as trying to make peace and attempting to learn both sides of culture. The contrast between the two worlds is shown by Jake Sully constantly moving between both worlds, the audience is eventually more exposed to the Na’vi side just as Jake Sully is. The main difference between, The Last of the Mohicans, book by James Fenimore Cooper and the last of the Mohicans movie, is that the book has a more adventurous theme and the moive has a more romantic and love them. I felt that both stories were extremely interesting.
