Does Form Follow Function in the Road? That is does McCarthy’s Style fit the Story he is telling? Why and why not?
Introduction
Most literature authors carefully select the style to use while writing a particular story. This is because the chosen style has to have an impact on both the effectiveness of the message of the story as well as on the attitude of the audience. Since these two factors are the key reasons for writing any piece of literature work, authors are left with no option but to be keen on the style selected and ensure its compatibility with the message of the story. For example when he said, “Hi, papa, he said”. In addition, he used contractions in some cases and ignored to put the apostrophes. He did this to depict a post-apocalyptic story in which the omission of the punctuation elements. For example he used, “dont and cant” where apostrophe was omitted between letter n and d to denote the short form of these words. McCarthy used this style to portray the changed world where the remnants of the old world such as running water, humanity and electricity has ceased to exist and they still survive their amounts are very limited. Furthermore, when the boy falls asleep the man makes a reflection upon one of the boy’s dreams in which dreamt of a creature whose eyes were dead. Therefore, man's dreams has a huge role to play throughout the novel. That is the man says to the boy and to himself that they are supposed to be feared since they are a sign of and as a result inevitable death would be near. For instances, the man said “I can’t hold his body in my hands”. In contrary, bad dreams are believed to be reassuring since they depict perseverance by both the man and boy are still persevering in the world they
