everywhere, with tall grasses that were perfect for my oxen to eat. We have had quite an issue with mosquitoes, though. Every evening after we set up our tents we would always entertain ourselves by singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Camping here is good, we have a nice resource of fresh water and plentiful grass for our oxen but the mosquitoes have been a real issue, we have all gotten bit by them. They have been everywhere, it is so hard to pick them out of our pancakes, we have had to just eat them with the mosquitoes in them. We will stay here tonight and tomorrow night after that, we are going to leave. We are now leaving Alcove Springs and we have been following the Platte River on our way to Fort Kearny. The Platte River is
During your visit, explore The Park, The Star Fort, and The Visitor Center! This Fort, was an important part of American history, and you can see it today in it’s original glory. The fort had some very significant events take place such as The War of 1812. After the fort defended against the British bombing ships in that war, the “Star Spangled Banner” was created. Come visit Fort McHenry!
Fort McAllister was a small earthen citadel positioned alongside Genesis Point and armed with numerous heavy cannon to defend the Great Ogeechee River method south of Savannah, Georgia. It turned into expanded again and again with the aid of adding more guns, traverses and bomb proofs. Obstructions and sooner or later torpedoes (mines)finished the riverine defenses.
An important monument from the revolutionary war is Fort Stanwix, also known as Fort Schuyler. The American force’s march to Fort Stanwix inevitably led to the battle of Oriskany. The fort itself not only served as an important military post, it also allowed for an alliance with the Oneida Indians. Fort Stanwix was built on higher ground by General John Stanwix. The Fort was looking down at the Mohawk River; it was built in 1758 between the Mohawk River and Wood Creek. The British General, John Stanwix had the fort connected by the waters of New York and the Great lakes. The way the fort was set up allowed for an alliance between the Americans and the Indians. If the Americans reoccupied the fort it would essentially block off a major
We have left Fort Kearny and are followed on the south side of the Platte River and have now reached the California Crossing. We are going to cross the South Platte River so we can later follow the North Platte River. It is to shallow so we have to follow sandbars across the river, because of it being a wide river there is no
It’s been a while since I written in here I have just been so busy. 2 weeks ago I turned I turned 18 and was conscripted to go fight in the war. I can’t really say if the news made me happy or sad. I didn’t care anymore, my father had died already died almost a year ago. The news had really shattered my mother’s heart and now that I have been sent of I fear what will become of her. I have been trying to send her a letter for months now but have been told that it was too dangerous at this time.
Wilfrid Laurier University has conducted an archaeological field school at Old Fort Erie in 2012, 2013, and 2015. The work has primarily been conducted by undergraduate students supervised by Teaching Assistants and Dr. John Triggs. This paper will be focused on the 2015 season, specifically nnit M, excavated by Joshua Graf. The artifacts recovered from the Unit have been catalogued and entered into an excel worksheet; pivot tables have also been created. These artifacts will be analyzed and statements will be made about the assemblage and its relation to the wider site.
Fort Snelling is located in the “heart of the twin cities” according to the writers at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resorces. It was established at the junction of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers around 1819 and 1820 as an army frontier post, and was used by the Us military for over 120 years. The fort is located on the top of the bluff, overlooking the river junction, a strategic location, benefiting both the Us and Dakota during the fur trade as its presence overlooked two of the major rivers used by voyagers, transporting furs at the time.
I was going through the topics that I had for my essay and the topic "Fort Steuben" stood out to me. I was entirely awed about knowing its history. In today's date, the fort is used as a museum. I've never been there, but I did see the pictures of the museum and some of the historical artifacts. The Ohio Historical Marker reads that:
Fort Clatsop was the encampment of the Lewis and Clark Expedition (Corps of Discovery) in the Oregon Country. Located near the mouth of the Columbia River this site served as their camp from December 8, 1805 until their departure on March 23, 1806. Fort Clatsop is located along the Lewis and Clark River at the north end of the Clatsop Plains approximately 5 miles southwest of Astoria, the fort was the last encampment of the Corps of Discovery before embarking on their return trip east to St. Louis. Now the site is known as the Fort Clatsop National Memorial.
After arriving at Fort Mose Amaris life will have a dramatic change. One prediction that I have is that I think that Amari will become a successful weaver in the fort and make a lot of money. Another prediction that I have is that Amari will love the baby that she has even though itis Clays too. One last prediction I have about Amaris future is that Amaris relationship with Polly and Tidbit will continue to grow and become even greater friends. In the end Amari will live a happy healthy life with a new family.
Thankfully I am feeling much better and I learned my lesson of never to think carelessly again. We just got to Fort Boise and traded and bought more supplies. Then, like I was in slow motion I saw a snake rising up to a man’s knee and “SNAP” it bit his knee and fled away. It happened so fast. I heard that when it was hot the snakes would
Fort Bridger was packed tight as we left it: 300 people looking for a new life in the broad California, contemplating their new future with many people waving them off towards the West, teary-eyed as they said their farewells. My auntie kissed both my cheeks and gripped my brother tightly whilst wishing us all the best of luck on our journey, and that she will see us in California in a few months once she has been accepted into another party. The Mr Donner’s were calling for everyone to board their wagon trains, and as father pulled my hand to get on the wagon train, I heard my auntie call my name. “Mary, look after your brother,” I made sure to take that guidance to heart and kept an eye out for my baby brother, his green eyes,
Trail was complete, even as almost annual improvements were made in the form of bridges, cutoffs, ferries, and roads, which made the trip faster and safer. From various starting points in Iowa, Missouri, or Nebraska Territory, the routes converged along the lower Platte River Valley near Fort Kearny, Nebraska Territory and led to rich farmlands west of the Rocky Mountains.
Downtown Fort Smith is probably the most common choice for an essay for this class, but mine was a choice to benefit someone a little younger than me. I wanted to take my girlfriend’s 9 year old child because he has very little knowledge of his home. Just to inspire him to go with us, I had to bribe him with Pokémon GO since downtown Fort Smith is the place to go for that. The bribe was a total success because that Saturday morning he was knocking on my bedroom door asking when we are going on our adventure. I will not lie, I purposely did not charge my phone so that it would die while we were out there. I did this because if I just give him my phone and let him play a game the whole time he will not pay attention to me at all.
Today the 240 acres of land Fort Caswell is located on is privately owned by the North Carolina Baptist Assembly. It was purchased from the federal government in 1949 by the Baptist convention of North Carolina for a sum of 86,000 dollars. The fort currently operates as a religious retreat and, convention center for the assembly. As of today it is not open to tourist, and the historical site can only be enjoyed by guests of the Assembly, and those who are approved to rent the facilities. (southporttimes.com, 2004)
