Franklin Delano Roosevelt, also known as FDR, was the 32nd president of the United States from March 4, 1933 – April 12, 1945. Franklin Roosevelt was not the first Roosevelt to serve as president. Franklin Roosevelt was related to Theodore Roosevelt, who had been the 26th president of the United States.As an only child, he got to go on many trips to Europe with his parents, his dad had been 26 years older than his mom and was educated by private tutors instead of going to an public school. When he had been attending Harvard University, FDR met his distant cousin Eleanor and had fallen in love. Franklins mom did not like the relationship and constantly got in the way. With all her attempts to get in the way and stop them from being a couple, they had gotten married and had six children together. Sadly one of their sons had died as a baby. At the age of 29, FDR became a U.S. Senator from New York. He had ran for Vice-President in 1920 but lost. Against his opponent. The next year he had became ill with polio, which is a disease that attacks and cripples the human body. After fighting hard to overcome the disease he became partially paralyzed, but had regained the use of his hands, and he could not be able to walk again without help. America had been able to stay out of the war until December 7, 1941. That was when Japan ordered an attack on the American Naval fleet at Pearl Harbor on the island of Hawaii. FDR and Churchill decided that Germany needed to be defeated. The world at this time was divided into two camps. In one of the camps were the Allies which are those opposing the Axis Powers, Winston Churchill of Britain , FDR of America and Joseph Stalin of Russia. On the other were the Axis Powers which were The Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and the Empire of Japan opposing the Allies. Since the war was continuing in 1944, FDR was again elected president
