Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882 in the Hudson Valley town of Hyde Park, New York. The parents of Franklin D. Roosevelt were James Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt. Both of his parents had a wealthy past. His parents shaped his personality and has a large part of making him who he is. Roosevelt had a much older stepbrother from James Roosevelt’s side of the family. Although he was not very close to his half-brother, he gained financial support from his stepbrother when he needed it. At a young age, Roosevelt was homeschooled by his parents and hired tutors to get the education he needed. This time at which our country’s economy went down the drain was called The Great Depression. FDR authorized the New Deal to get our country out of the Great Depression immediately, but instead he aggravated the wealthy people by issuing heavier taxes for them. Other attempts to a resolution include Social Security, managing banks and public utilities, and a work relief program for those who do not have a job. New Deal was a term used in FDR’s speech at the Democratic nomination convention in Chicago, 1932. The legislation took two rounds until the New Deal was passed. It passed during the first Hundred Days, which was aimed at recovery and relief. The New Deal was a significant change in developing an organized American government for our citizens. The government took responsibility of the citizen’s welfare. FDR played a large role throughout the course of World War II. Immediately after Germany invaded Poland in 1939, FDR decided not to stay neutral and aid Britain, China, and France. Becoming involved in the war was very difficult, due to the Neutrality Acts. The devastating attacks on Pear Harbor on December 7, 1941 required FDR to execute his power as Commander-in-Chief. He assembled military forces to retaliate against Japan, becoming directly involved in the war at this time.
