Free The Children from Child Labour:
The Disadvantageous of Child Labour
Two hundred million children are suffering in the world! “the world has an estimated 186 million child labourers – 5,7 million in forced and bonded labor, 1.8 million in prostitution, and 0.3 million in armed conflict” .( Basu & Tzannatos, 2003, p.147). In Africa, Asia and the Middle East, a huge number of children are child labourers, and most of them under 14 years old. However, they are working hard as same as adults; they are working long hours every day, and work in harsh, dangerous and harmful conditions. They can’t have normal lives as other children; they can’t go to school and stay with their families, because they must earn money for

Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits.
Be abused People think work doesn’t harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused by their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily get abuse from employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a worker told a boy about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly beaten. This made the boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep working as slaves for employers. (Kielland & Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in African child labourers. It causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working children get sexual abuse more than non working children. For instance, according to Kielland and Tovo. (2006). In their article, “child labour in the commercial labor market”, girls work in restaurants longer than boys, and working late hours in a place where alcohol is served. Some girls provide service which is far beyond food and drinks. Because there have no general responsibility for those female child labourers, and people think it is a good
When their work do not affect their “health and personal development or interfere with their schooling,” they do not fit the negative notion of child labor (ILO, 1996). Children sometimes assist their parents with housework and take a part in building family businesses without their working hours affecting primary education. This is indeed a beneficial experience for children, because they learn to be productive within their communities. On the other hand, ILO (1996) applies the term child labor when work “is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to children; and interferes with their schooling by; depriving them of the opportunity to attend school; obliging them to leave school prematurely; or requiring them to attempt to combine school attendance with excessively long and heavy work.” When child labor is engaged in enslavement, separation from families, and misplacement of children on the streets, ILO experts refer to it as the most extreme forms of child
Child labor is a serious problem that affects children from third-world countries all over the world. These children are exploited by multinational corporations ,for their cheap labor all over the world. People, then buy products that come at a cheaper price, from these multinational corporations. These children are often overworked and treated unfairly. People need to stop buying items from countries that endorse child labor.
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is defined as “work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013, p. 2).” In the most extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets (Dinopoulos & Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as “child labour” depends on the child’s age, the type of work,
However, we can still find children being abused. We can still discover children being abused and used as the lowest form workingclass people. Such websites like Human Rights Watch, allow people to keep up with child labor events through the world. Hundreds of thousands of children continue to be exploited in the United States. Many forms of evidence has been gathered that informs people that children as young as eight and younger are put to work in arenas such agriculture, heavy industrial, farms and ranches. The children are victims to five times the fatalities of their adults and older children, who suffer injuries related with these industries. The most extreme child labor employment are sweat shops. Sweat shops are no secret to many people in the world. Sweat ships force children to work in unbearable type conditions. Even though they are protections in place, the illegality of employing children and the consequences that follow are tragic to say the least. This is not only true for the child ,but also for our society as a whole.
Some children will work in very harsh conditions which could include drug trafficking, prostitution and sometimes in some countries the young children will work in types of military position for their country. A lot of children work in many types of commercial business if they can. You would never believe what these children work in and it is not safe at all for the these children to be working in it, cause it is not safe for adults sometimes also. What’s not safe for adults should not be safe for children you would think? A lot of the work that these children work in are extremely hazardous and the children that will work in these conditions come from extremely poor families and they may also live in a low economic state also. Sometimes these children will work with either no pay at all for their hard work or just little pay for the jobs that they complete. A lot of the commercial jobs that these children are involved have very extreme health risk and concerns to the children
It saddens me to think that child labour is often required in some families to survive and little pay the children get at the cost of an education. It is estimated that 27 million people are trapped in slavery today, through sexual exploitation, forced labour, pedophilia and torture - more than in any other time in history. It is said that 5.6 million of these people are children and that many, many more children are labouring to support their families (very low pay). Some additional information I learnt was that 58% of all trafficking cases were for the purpose of sexual exploitation and that 56% of all forced labour occurs in the Asia Pacific region. The most unfortunate statistic to me is that it is a very profitable “business” and that the illegal trade generates more than $150 billon US each year as it is a low-risk trade for extremely high
Being a child should be about going to school, making mistakes, and learning valuable life skills in order to prepare to enter the workforce as an adult. It should not be a child’s job to work for many hours of the day in unsafe working conditions. They should not be worked to the point of exhaustion for such inconsiderable wages, for that is child labor. In many African countries, child labor is very prevalent, particularly in the gold industry. In order to get enough income to support themselves, many poor, African families send their children to work even though it means risking the health of their child. A common job for these desperate children is working in small scale mines in search of gold to make jewelry. Not only is this job dangerous,
Children ages five to seven in Africa worked down by 20 percent. But in other countries child labor is a normal thing. In Asia 78 percent of children are laborers. Between 2000 and 2012, child labor declined from 246 million to 168 million, the International Labor Organization reported. The International Labor Organization estimates that it would cost $760 million to eliminate child labor.
“Child labor, including prostitution, mining, deep-sea fishing and drug-trafficking - should not be banned in poor countries, according to a study by the Royal Economic Society. Where there is a choice, the worst forms of child labor will usually be chosen because they pay better than other forms, considered 'non-harmful'," is what the report says. Firstly, child labor helps a child to learn the value of a dollar which he or she earns Along with this state of mind it have been noticed that child labor also have benefits. after working. By knowing the value of his earned dollar he become a responsible and a strong person as he grows. It helps a child in spending the money throughout his life. It helps a child to develop a strong work ethic. Secondly, if viewed from the economic point of view it is evident that child labor has decreased the wage rate and increases the profits. “They contribute to maintain the household and sometimes support the education of their younger sisters and brothers. It helps the children to come forward and fight to live in such an aggressive and selfish world.” (Russell). Children usually worked with their parents along their side in cotton factories, textile mills, sewing companies and other factories as well.
Halima is an 11 year old girl who lives in Bangladesh; she works eight hours a day six days a week. She works clipping loose threads off of Hanes underwear for only 53 cents a day. Halima needs to clip 150 pairs of underwear per hour, and she becomes exhausted to the point where she is able to fall asleep standing up. This 11 year old girl should not be working like this. Worldwide, there are approximately 150 million children involved in child labor who shouldn’t be. Child labor is an issue that attacks the rights of children and takes away their ability to be a child, as displayed by the countries of Eritrea and China.
Child labor is considered as a form of child abuse, it being the exploitation of a child’s rights and freedoms. Therefore, child labour is when underage children are employed, this happens because a child labourer is paid less than an adult labourer. Consequently employers have more children working for them because they spend less paying the children.
Imagine seeing a very young child working 10-16 hours a day. Who are malnurtured and are working and living in unbearable condition. Sadly, this is a reality for most children in child labor. Child labor is not healthy for children because it destroys their childhood. Many children receive no education because they have to work all the time, meaning, many adults also become unemployed because of this. On the other hand, many people believe that child labor is not negative for children, they believe if the child's parents cannot work, a child can do it for the family to survive. In conclusion, child labor is not a good alternative for kids because it ruins the meaning of a childhood, it leads to unemployment for young adults, and does not supply an education for these children.
Many children who involved with child labor came from poor families (Kashif & Hussain, 2013). So they are forced to work even in younger age, or from a society that encourages child labor, which their structure is so fragile and provide an inhabitable environment for any individual. The most significant reasons of child labor are poverty and the environment.
Children labor has many causes which must be overcome to avoid it's fatal effects on the community and the whole country. The first and the main cause is the poverty and unemployment as the poor families and their children may depend on child labor to improve their living conditions and there are many poor people across the world, so this problem is widespread according to U.N. statistics more than 25% of people in the wold live in poverty(2005),then the second cause is that the chance to have a free education is limited and this is because countries and governments don't care enough for free education to help those who aren't able to afford
Unfortunately, childhood can be robbed from children when they become involved in child labour. Child labour is work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity and that is is harmful to their development.
