Freedom of Speech has a big impact on student's education in America. In the first amendment it states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion of prohibiting the free exercise there of; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The first amendment of the United States Constitution promises the right to freedom of religion and the freedom of expression from the government. Freedom of expression is made up of the rights to freedom of speech, press, assembly and to petition the government. The most common right of freedom of expression is the right of freedom of speech. The first amendment protects the rights of freedom of religion, speech, press, petition, and assembly. The United States Constitution created the right for religious freedom to people the right to "practice his or her own religion, or no religion at all." (ACLU) Since public schools are runner by the government this mean public schools cannot support religious beliefs or practice them as part of the curriculum. The student's rights to free speech and privacy in and out of school is mandatory to make sure schools in America are providing quality education in the democratic system were living in. One category of student's rights to freedom of speech that schools can restrict is speech that is verbally abusive. Schools can also can restrict any speech that promotes any illegal drug use or violence.
