Even though numerous characters in the play contributed to the death of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence’s irresponsibility and lack of recognition makes him most to blame. To begin, Romeo proposes the idea about marring Juliet, a member of the Capulet Family by telling Friar Laurence “Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set on the fair daughter of rich Capulet (2.3.57-58). In the play, Romeo and Juliet, I believe Friar Laurence is to blame for their deaths. So many wrong steps were taken and encouraged by Friar Laurence to these naive lovers, that ultimately lead to their deaths. The first mistake that Friar Laurence made was to agree to marry the two in secret and without the permission of their parents. The next piece of bad advice the Friar gave, was when he instructed Juliet to fake her own death to avoid her dilemma. The last wrongdoing was giving the message for Romeo to an unreliable messenger. If any of these events did not take place, their deaths could’ve been avoided.
Friar lawrence is the one to blame for all mistakes and tragic events that occurred between both of the families because when Romeo rushed over to the church and asked he the friar if he could marry Romeo and Juliet secretly the friar should have denied his request because Romeo had told the friar that he just met Juliet the other day. If the friar would have denied Romeo’s request that would have left him sad but it would have also gave more time to know more about each other. Also the friar should have never kept the marriage a secret because since he did that the families did not know that they were now related, so if the two families would have known this then it would have stopped the hatred between them and Tybalt never would have started
