Everyone is affected by certain events or individuals that greatly change their life. Many people have influenced me during my 21 years of my life, but I believe that the person that has influenced my life the most is a wonderful girl by the name of Lindsay Schiller. In the year that I have known her, she has become one of my best friends, and has helped to transform me from a lonely computer nerd into a happy college student with a decent social life.
Popular wisdom has it that, "You judge a man by his friends." Earlier in my life, that would have been difficult, because my father was a high school football coach, and it seemed as though every year I was moving to a

That idea quickly escaped my mind as I realized that college was going to be exactly like high school was and I was going to continue to be a loner. My second year in college, I transferred to Missouri Southern State College, in Joplin Missouri, I arrived to school here in the fall of 2001 and once again put up a shield hiding myself from others. I somehow found a group of guys, which like me did not have the greatest social lives. One of these guys introduced me to a girl named Lindsay Schiller. She just began to talk to me as though I was a friend she had known her entire life, we immediately began joking about teenagers working in 7-11's, and made fun of the way our professors dramatized certain aspects of their classes, and satirized her professor’s methodology of hand-signals for facts, generalizations, and cause/effect. Finding common ground in our senses of humor, and love of the certain TV shows, we grew acquainted with each other.
Later in the year we started dating and began to hang out with each other on more of regular bases. With her being from Basalt Colorado and me being from Grove, Oklahoma, we had a lot of differences and it seemed as though we always had something to talk about, even if it was pointless and had no meaning behind it. More important
I didn't see her at all for weeks until one day I was in the main town of our area, a few miles away from our own town. She was just finishing loading her shopping into her car when by chance I walked past her. We had our usual small talk about my family, college and the local football team I played for.
Friends are an important part in everyone's life. Without friends we would have all these emotions bubbling up inside of us ready to explode, we would have no one to talk to and no one to laugh with. Our friends are the people who help make us who we are as people, they are the people who truly accept us for who we are and love us knowing all our flaws and mistakes we make. We chose our friends based on the personality traits we want to see more of in our lives, we chose them based on the qualities that we want to see in ourselves, but most of all we chose them because they know how to make us laugh and smile.
Many philosophers through history have explained what the meaning of friendship is. One philosopher is Aristotle who said, “ For a person to be friends with another it is necessary that they bear good will to each other and wish good things for each other, without this escaping their notice.” Friendship has many different characteristics to it such as unconditional love, honesty, loyalty, nonjudgemental, and attentiveness.
Friendship: a word familiar to all and found everywhere. A prime example of friendship can be seen in the Toy Story movies between the main characters, Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Throughout the movies, these two cartoon characters constantly find themselves in unfortunate dilemmas and many fights. Woody and Buzz, however, quickly learn that they need to work together to solve their problems and this leads them to become the best of friends. In the movie Monsters Inc., Mike and Sully The Oxford American Dictionary defines friendship as a relationship between two people who enjoy mutual affection and regard. Everyone has friendships; however, what defines a true friendship?
Being in a relationship, or a part of a relationship, is a broad term. There are many different types of relationships that you will experience in life. Some relationships are by choice, some you are born or marry into, some are in passing (people you meet on the street, checkout lines in the grocery store, or sitting at a Starbucks), and others are fleeting moments in time.
Friendship is important for us to grow and become who we want to become in life. Every human needs friendship as a necessity for us to thrive as we are not all self-sufficient in ourselves. Just think if no one talked to each other and we never made friends, this world would be a ticking time bomb. My personal definition of a friend is someone who is always there, helps me with the simple or complex decision, always looks out for what is best for me, and being able to have trust between each other.
I met this friend in the middle of my first year of middle school. She had moved to Duncan from Lafayette, Louisiana. We immediately started hanging out after her second day of school. We clicked quicker than anyone thought and soon became best friends. During rough times, we were there for each other. During happy times, we were there for one another. We became inseparable. We were with each other every day and
When it comes to friendships I have always kept my groups, small whether it be from preference or from people just not liking me, or a mixture of both. I don't really care, i like it better that way. Small groups leaves room for a higher level of bonding and allows loyalty to shine through brighter in my opinion. This is important to me because loyalty is the key trait of any functional Bromance. Ultimate trust in another person is hard to find but worth having and like most things worth having it is broken easily. My best friend is John we started hanging out at the beginning of the year. We don't have a lot in common, though it works. He's got a lot more common sense and is usually my guardian angel when i'm on the brink of the usual dumb stuff i'm prone to doing. He
Everything that has occurred in my life has shaped me in a way, whether it be tripping on the concrete as a child, or crying into my mother’s arms about a boy. All of these little occurrences that have happened over the sixteen years of my life are essentially what make me the person that I am today, the person that I try harder every single day to improve little by little. While everything that happens makes an impact, there is one affair that has changed not only my perspective on life, but has shaped me to desire to share this moral with everyone I can, and simply hope that it will be utilized in the best ways possible, and that is the valuing of friendship.
Have you ever had someone in your life who helped you figure out who you were? Someone who showed you the right path. Someone who was there right next you even if you did not take that path. Someone who always seemed to be right, but never held it against you when you were not. Someone whom without your life would most likely be entirely different. I have. Her name was Jessica.
Imagine your sole confidante, childhood playmate, personal comedian and physiologist disclosing your secrets to a stranger. Unfortunately, this stranger happens to be the person who enforce a form of punishment for the actions that were once a secret. Furthermore, this confidante is considered your friend. Does an instance of this friend disclosing your secret of immoral activities to a person of authority violate the success of the friendship? In fact, this act is not a violation of the laws of friendship. The ideas of friendship are subjective, and thus where you might think your friend’s actions are unjust, your friend is actually looking out for your best interest and security. Also, a good friend would not desire
Do you have friends? Most likely, you answered yes, but I’m asking do you have “true friends”? I use quotes because my understanding of the general populous concludes me to believe people don’t have real honest, genuine, friends. These superficial friendships I speak of lead to a disastrous chaos, betrayal, and most importantly: a broken heart. Friends are those who look out for each other, those who will abort any personal objective for you at the drop of a hat. These aspects show a real friend, these aspects describe Rachel Stephenson.
“The two ladies, who had been intimate since childhood, reflected how little they knew each other”. This is how, author, Edith Wharton shows the relationship of two characters, Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade, in the short story “Roman Fever.” These two women who are supposed to be friends, led envious lives of each other, and because of the way they lived they were very contrasting and conflicting characters. In the end, I believe Mrs. Slade was guiltier for her actions and in fact the whole incident would have never happened if it weren’t for her.
Friendship can mean many things to many people. For example, when I think of friendship I think of my best friends at school. When my mom thinks of friendship, however, she might think of our dog or my dad. What comes to mind for you is most likely different than the person next to you. This is because friendship is not about “she’s always there for me when I need her most,” or “he can make me laugh in the saddest of times.” Although it can be true, those sappy quotes aren’t what make a great friend. Having great friend for me includes having someone to talk to anytime, someone that you are able to enjoy yourself with, and someone that truly cares for you the same way you care for them. All in all, true friendship is what you feel in your heart a friend should be.
We are best friends and we have known each other since the fifth grade. Even though we may look a little different, some people may think we are sisters. I am grateful for the times we share, the memories we have, and the things we will do in the future together. I am grateful for you. I hope you know how much, and if you don’t, hopefully this letter will show you.
