FTC scholarship essay
Competing in the First Tech Challenge for the last two years has been an amazing experience. I have learned many new things surrounding teamwork, working under pressure, and engineering. I began competing in FTC my junior year in high school. I had worked previously with robotics a bit in my Pre-Engineering shop but I had never focussed all of my attention on robotics. I was a bit cautious joining robotics because I was used to working in a team for soccer, not something where academics were applied. I was also cautious because I knew that there were not going to be many girls. I was accustomed to there only being about 2-4 girls in my courses but I did not know what to expect from this program. I was pleasantly surprised,

I was glad to see that not only so many girls at the state competition but even teams consisting of only girls. This qualifying round taught my team many things for future reference. I learned the importance of keeping focused under pressure when a program/code isn't working and what I had missed in the notebook. Although my team did not place as well as I hoped, we learned many things revolving time management and robot design that carried on to the following year at competition. The following year, my senior year, was considerable different. I was not able to focus that much on the competition because of all that i had going on. In result of what we had learned the previous year, the teachers started the robotics club a bit earlier. This interfered with my soccer season therefore i did not make it to many if the first meetings. This interrupted with my ability to make a detailed notebook however with the help of my teammate who was also in charge of the notebook we were able to pull it off. The state competition was a bit frustrating. Although the team had more time this year, they took advantage of it and tried to rebuild a robot after qualifying rounds. This lead to a lot of frustration and a non-moving robot for the first
We always sat in this living room on a big brown couch in a comfy cozy house filled with warm tones and American Indian art. For the past six years of my life, I have been on two robotics teams--the first four years spent on an all-girls robotics team. My coach of four years always--always quoted Sir Isaac Newton: “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” My coach was a giant through his big belly and his large passion for robotics. He would always tell me “your peers, your teachers, your coaches, your parents are your giants because you learn from standing on their shoulders.” This is how my background with my coach of four years would influence the types of problems I want to solve.
I have worked on my family farm ever since I was fourteen years old. This is where I have gained my love of agriculture. My responsibilities include taking care of my show calves, working cattle, helping with harvesting and planting, and assisting my father with any other needs around the farm. The experiences I have gained through working on my family’s farm will help lead me through the rest of my life.
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
Beta Club provides students opportunities to serve their local and global communities through the donation of time, objects, and money. The planning for my personal service project began my first year in the club and has continued through this academic school year. Many of the projects in my school’s chapter of Beta Club serve the local community only and have no global impact. I began to search for organizations which work to benefit those in need across the globe and found Kiva. Individuals in every country can request loan amounts which are funded through micro loans by multiple donors. Loan requests range from agriculture and education to retail and food.
Being diagnosed with cancer has impacted my outlook on life in many different ways. At first I saw cancer as a burden on my life and only the negative attributes stood out on how it was going to change my life and the way I saw people around me, but now after being two years cancer free, I have gone to realize the positive aspects cancer has had on my life.
Texas A&M is my home. I am 44 years old and I have been a full-time employee of Texas A&M University for almost 10 years. Although it has taken me a long time to get to the academic level that I am now at, I have never given up. Even though, they encouraged me every step of the way I was not guided very well academically by my parents. Neither of them attended college, so they were unable to provide advice. Now that I have gained the knowledge and know what I want, I will continue to work hard on my academic journey until it is complete.
I have been a part of JROTC for the past four years of my high school career. During my time in the program, I gained more self-confidence and was able to venture out of my comfort zone, which allowed me to join numerous clubs and organizations throughout my high school career. The clubs include the Chess Club for one year, the Environmental Club and AFJROTC Honor Guard team for two years, and Science Olympiad all my four years of high school. The organizations include the National Technical Honor Society for two years and National Honor Society for two years as well and voted Vice President.
FFA has been very big part of my agricultural experiences and has opened many doors for me. It has taught me premier leadership as I have moved up in the FFA chapter. Also it has helped me become more outgoing than shy. By joining FFA and becoming more outgoing I have become more connected to other people in the ag field that I meet from FFA community events, FFA organization events, and customers shopping at Orscheln Farm and Home. One of the biggest things that has helped me develop into a young adult is being elected President of our local FFA chapter, by having more responsibilities and learning how to lead an organization. A huge thing that opened my eyes to how big the agriculture industry is, was attending National FFA Convention. I
We are always told live our lives to the absolute fullest, without any regrets. My grandmother always told me to keep my regrets to an absolute minimum. I may have put myself in a variety of distasteful paths over the last couple of years, I will admit; and I believe that I can only succeed from there. I haven't necessarily had an event or experience to write about, instead, I’ve had a pretty generous handful of them. From the beginning of my freshman year, up until now, my life has been quite a maze. I also know that I have had nobody to blame but myself, and that has helped me realize that my life and the path I take will be solely up to me. I have seen the power that my choices and actions can have. My entire life has been one large experience; it has taught me maturity, responsibility and appreciation for the ones who want to see me
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
I am very honored and pleased that I have been awarded the Naomi M. and Elbert G. Mathews Perpetual Memorial Financial Aid Scholarship through AFSA Scholarship program. Thank you for opening this door and blessing me with this opportunity to receive this scholarship and help me pursue my education. I am about to become a junior at Florida International University studying psychology.
This year, ICCP returned to compete in the annual World Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) competition. This program challenges students from various schools to compete with one another in various subject tests ranging from English to Physics, and even Engineering Graphics. This year, the Regional competition was held at Fenwick High School, our fourteen member team placed third in the 700 Division. Unfortunately, they were unable to qualify as a team for the Sectional competition in March as only the top two teams advance in each Division. However, some notable finishers at the Regional competition included Joshua De La Cruz who earned a 1st place in Biology, Demitra Del Fiacco who earned a 3rd place in Engineering Graphics, Alec Vasquez who earned a 3rd place in Biology, and
The Foundation Scholarship is the most sought out to win by my peers, and students all over Arkansas planning to attend Arkansas Tech University. Likewise, I will be on my toes until the winner is announced. This scholarship would mean to me that I am doing right by my parents, and that the University has been gracious enough to award me with such an honor.
I hope you are doing well. I know I spoke with you earlier in September, and I have used the time before applying for the CTC Fellowship Program to truly figure out my plan for the next five years and where I truly want to see myself.
Hope. By advancing well-grounded scientific knowledge to treat our human body, medicine brings hope. By applying that knowledge to treat a human body with a unique history and identity, doctors bring hope. "I 'm not simply listening to heart sounds. I 'm listening to a human being who has heart sounds." Dr. David De Marco exemplifies the kind of doctor and medical student I yearn to become. Why did I, an engineering-minded individual, choose medicine?
