Texas A&M is my home. I am 44 years old and I have been a full-time employee of Texas A&M University for almost 10 years. Although it has taken me a long time to get to the academic level that I am now at, I have never given up. Even though, they encouraged me every step of the way I was not guided very well academically by my parents. Neither of them attended college, so they were unable to provide advice. Now that I have gained the knowledge and know what I want, I will continue to work hard on my academic journey until it is complete.
I started college at age 18, but shortly after life interrupted my higher education. One of the biggest setbacks in my academic career was my father having a massive stroke. He was in several hospitals over a six-month span. My mother once said that our family motto was “if one of us suffers, we all suffer”. This motto became a family joke during this difficult time and helped us get through it. My

I graduated from High School in 1989 and it has taken me this long to get to where I am, not because academics were difficult for me, but because of my dedication to taking care of others. I have supported others while they finished degree after degree and now it is my turn to finish what I started years ago. I do not regret helping others achieve their academic dreams; however, I wish it had been easier for me to complete mine. The Texas A&M University environment is very welcoming and I have always felt at home here. I have been on the Council of Respect and won the Keys of Excellence award in my department. I have spent so much time working here that I know this is the right school for me. Literature is one of the things that I enjoy most and I know that Texas A&M will help me to expand my knowledge. After I obtain my degree, I plan on staying at Texas A&M. I am very determined to finish my degree at Texas A&M University and will continue to do anything possible to achieve my
The foreclosure crisis is the second major financial dilemma of the twenty-first century. To solve this, the roots of the problem need to be dug up and exposed followed by replanting with an appropriately improved regulatory system to help build stronger roots for the future. It seems that the free market system can't be free anymore given its intertwining roots extend way beyond domestic to international financial systems. There are two fundamental causes to the latest credit crisis: 1) poor quality securitized mortgages and 2) insufficient underwriting for credit poor borrowers. Secondary (downstream) problems making the financial crisis more complex include underemployment and business failures. Many banks,
When I started volunteering at Utica Dance in the fall of 2014, I was just as nervous as the newly enrolled dancers in the class I was about to teach. Even though I was only the Volunteer Assistant to the Dance Instructor, I felt as if a heavy responsibility was placed upon me. I oversaw almost twelve children ranging from seven to thirteen who all wanted desperately to become professional dancers, many of which are still pursuing that dream. On top of that, all these children had begged their parents to sign them up for an expensive, intensive fundamental ballet program; then dragged their parents to buy tights and leotards; then dragged them into the waiting room of a dance
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
A&M is the state's first open foundation of advanced education. With an understudy collection of more than 59,000 and more than 5,200 sections of land on the College Station grounds, Texas A&M is additionally among the country's biggest colleges. Our roots, in any case, are much humbler: we owe our presence to the Morrill Act, endorsed by the United States Congress on July 2, 1862. This demonstration given to gift of open area to the states with the end goal of subsidizing advanced education whose "driving article should be, without barring other exploratory and traditional studies, and including military strategies, to instruct such branches of learning as are identified with horticulture and workman expressions."
Like most young boys I grew up idolizing sport heroes, racing kids on the playground, and playing sports outside. My teams were the Cowboys, the Astros, and later on in life the Aggies. Consequentially, if you didn’t love Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio than I didn’t really like you. Although most of these decisions were made based upon my brother’s sport interest, I learned to love them in my own way. After all, my brother was the one who I played basketball with, threw the football and baseball with, and eventually the one who inspired my love for A&M and the Aggies. For all my life I can remember wanting to play sports and wanting to watch sports, but around 7th grade when my brother moved off to A&M is when I really started getting the sports bug. Visiting for home games, standing in the
I intend to use this scholarship to help pay for my tuition and books at the Southern Arizona University of Phoenix- Online. I would like to be considered for this scholarship because I have no financial help from my family. This means that I have to be able to pay for college on my own because of the fact that my father is no longer in my life, and my mom has my other siblings to take care of. My father is no longer in my life because he now lives in Mexico with his other family. I don’t have financial help from him because he has a wife and six other children. My mother would like to be able to help me, but she has two other children she’s taking care of by herself, and she has to prepare for my sister's graduation next year as well as mine this year. I plan to get a job after I graduate to help pay for the expenses of college, but since I am going online the expenses of college are going to be a lot less than if I were to go on campus, this is the main reason I am planning to go online, and to take a lot of the stress of being totally alone off myself because I will only be twenty minutes away from my family instead of an hour or two.
Growing up in poverty not only made me the person I am today, it made me want a better version of myself for my future self and family. This is a goal I know I could achieve through continuing my education to Florida State University. I believe I would benefit from the community at Florida State University because I would be surrounded by other students who want to improve their academic career and lives, as they willingly attend to pursue their chosen degrees. Also, I’ll be able to immerse myself in clubs and organizations that consist of people who share the same dream of a career in science and medicine. The community at Florida State University will benefit from me because not only do I work my hardest, I have the dedication, and confidence, to succeed in anything I set my mind to. Working hard at my job and school, allowed me gain experience with time management, discover my dedication to education, and discover my dream college: Florida State
High School wasn’t smooth sailing for me and my GPA wasn’t at its full potential. With senior prom and all my senior activities it felt as if time was slowly but surely running out. High school was some of my best years but I was dying to graduate and attend college and be on my own but in order to do so I had to score really high on the ACT or SAT. I was so nervous while taking the SAT and I didn’t do good as I wanted to, feeling defeated I studied really hard for the ACT. Even though I studied the butterflies when I entered the room where the test was being administered wouldn’t go away but I did feel more confident. I took the test and waited days for my results. I was so excited that I scored a 24. I learned that if you put your mind to something you will succeed every time. I took full responsibility for my future and I planned on having a bright one. I felt as a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. After receiving the good news I applied to a total of four universities and I was accepted by all of them. Even though I applied to different schools my dream college was to attend Louisiana State University. Unfortunately LSU’s nursing program is not like an average nursing program. Sadly their nursing program is not located on LSU’s campus
Over the past year, I have completely fallen in love with my new home here at Western Carolina University. I am so proud to be a part of such an incredible community with amazing staff and students. Next year, I will be continuing my studies at Western, taking courses for my chosen major: nutrition and dietetics.
Texas A&M constantly reminds me and encourages the students to be a part of something bigger than themselves. This is important because it gives each student a feeling of responsibility to leave this campus better than they found it. At most colleges the students only have the common ground of attending the same university, however at Texas A&M its more than just a university but rather a family. This is one of the major aspects that brought me to A&M, I had heard about the Aggie family and how it is unlike any other college in the nation. In my years here, I have experienced the Aggie family and watched how strangers are bonded just knowing they make up a family together. Each member of a family has responsibilities to help out and serve their
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
1. I grew up on the west side of San Antonio. My family falls into a strange place where I do not qualify for federal aid, yet my fathers lone income can not afford to send me to a large university. I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio for a year and received a 3.2 GPA while attending. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to continue my education at a university.I find myself at SAC attending classes at a lower price so that I may one day return to UTSA. Education means so much to me. It is a way to escape the strange cycle my entire family has been dragged into of working in hard manual labor for moderate pay. I want more for myself and my future family so that I may afford to send my children to the best schools in San Antonio.
Though I would be very comfortable sharing my aggie story to current, former, and future aggies, I feel that I am best suited to connect and share my story with current students. I have had the amazing opportunity to live a true aggie lifestyle since I was a little girl to now, attending football games, honoring students who have passed away at silver taps, honoring fallen aggies at Muster, tailgating, and discovering who I want to be and how I am going to get there. When I started at Texas A&M University I was a Biomedical Science Major, and I never felt more lost and scared, for I realized this was not an area that interested me in any form. With the help and encouragement of my aggie parents, I decided to follow my passion of helping to
Life challenges us and we, intuitively, will try to make decisions facing the obstacles in the least possible burden. After completing my associate degree as an honor student at Houston Community College in May 2014, my family took priority over my studies and I had to work full time instead of going to school. After my father was diagnosed with arteriosclerosis I started working full time as research assistants in a biochemistry lab at Rice University and attending graduate level courses till fall 2015.
My earliest memories are growing up in the state of Alabama surrounded by my loving family. Alabama was and still is my home, where I was raised since the age of two to become the person I am today. At the age of twelve, circumstances made me move back to San Benito, Texas where my mom grew up. Even though my teenage years have been spent here, I have always dreamt of returning to Alabama. Leaving behind friends, family, and the familiarity of home was a difficult transition that I had to make and it still is hard to adjust. As the choice of deciding where I want to go to college grows drastically closer, my mind and heart are pulling me to the University of Alabama. Living there since we had no NFL ( National Football League) team we were focused on our two college football teams, one being the University of Alabama and the other being Auburn University. My family was always rooting for alabama while I was going for Auburn and still till this day too, but since the University of alabama is closer to my hometown where my family currently lives I want to go there. Alabama University “is a large, 4-year, public university. This college is located in a small city in a suburban setting and is primarily a residential campus. It offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees,” (College Board).
