Furniture Project Paper

Decent Essays

In our furniture project, as a group, the team thought of household items that were wanted in the home. After that, objects that filled the requirements of multiple, practical functions, reducing space, easy and safe to use, and lastly, simple, were selected. After each individual found a piece of furniture (s)he wanted to create, the group members each designed a model. Shortly after, they prototyped their designs on their own. Next, each member presented his/her prototype to the rest of the group. Following the delivery of what the team made, they came to a conclusion of which item would best fit for the group to enhance. The roof area is 720 square feet, and the house needs approximately 4.8 kW of power to run through the year. With the requirements in mind, the group considered all of the solar panel options. Before solar panels, the total cost of the house was $243,995, which was very close to the $250,000 budget, so the solar panels had to be less than $6,000 total. Most of the options for solar panels were between $3,000 and $5,000. The group narrowed down the options to two. The first was Trina Solar model DD05A which costs $4,050 for 18 panels and had a calculated efficiency of 19.18%. The second option was JA Solar model JAM6(L)(TG)-60/PR which had the greatest cost of $5,032 for 17 panels and had a calculated efficiency of 17.38%. The group was between these options because the Trina Solar panels were both efficient and under budget, while the JA Solar panels were the most expensive, and therefore possibly of the highest quality. However, because the JA Solar panels had a lower efficiency, they were likely of lower quality than the Trina Solar panels. Because the Trina Solar panels were the least expensive of the two options as well as the most efficient out of all of the options, they were chosen as the solar panels for the
