In today's world many people question or education system and question whether or not the cost is of college is worth it just to continue your education. Although you inquire a lot of debt in college. Getting a degree is almost necessary in today's job market because most jobs require one and jobs that do not require a college degree are getting harder to get, as the unemployment rises. Therefore a college degree is worth incurring significant debt. Earning a college not only provides you with job security and provides potential for greater lifetime earnings.

My father used to tell that when he started working with the highway department in South Carolina that you didn't even need a degree to get hired. The main challenge I face in pursuing my college degree is financial instability. I am originally from Northern California, and right before I entered college my mother lost our house and we had to move into a trailer. My mother is a single mother of three, and her salary does not cover my education which has lead me to take out loans. If it wasn't for the loan I took out, I would not be able to afford UCLA. The loan covers the majority of my housing, but out of pocket my mother is still paying 300 dollars every quarter. My father is not in the picture, he left when I was a child and I have not heard from him ever since. Motivation: Getting a degree is one of the many things in life that I want to accomplish, and what keeps me motivated in pursuing a degree is my family and husband. My father is an accountant and he works from home now because he can't walk anymore, although he still earns as much, its just not the same anymore. My husband on the other hand has a disability that often keeps him from working. These people are my motivation, thinking about what the future brings and what might happen to them financially keeps me in my thinking cap and enables me to strive for the best. I want to be able to earn a degree not only for myself but for my family as well.

My hopes for college are not yet set in stone, however, I have many interests. My interests include world languages, foreign cultures, science, and ethnobotany. I would like to major in biochemistry to become a genetic engineer for plants. I may also like to double major in foreign languages. I do not know yet what I will do in the future, but I know I need a college degree to obtain a decent job. My first year will be spent taking the basic classes and figuring out what I will want to do as a career. Earning my degree wasn’t hard for me. I come from a family where getting your college degree is like getting your high school diploma, it was mandatory. I prepared for college throughout my high school career so when it came time for college I knew what I had to do. Although I knew what to expect from college I didn’t realize how hard it would to be away from my family and I was not yet used to how hard the work might be; So when I started school I needed a lot of resources to keep up the grades that I saw fit for me. There is a number of factors that is driving me to pursue a college degree at this stage in my life. The basic motivating is living up to my parent’s standard. Both were college educated.
