For this field trip. I learned that the Gaston County Jail is a large facility for people to stay in, and that there was a higher population of males than females. I also learned that Gastonia contains a lot of interesting buildings and sites to see, including a rebuilt building called Loray Mills (an apartment/loft building). My favorite part of this specific field trip was definitely Loray Mills. Me and my father are going to be moving within the year and it definitely opened my eyes for a possible place to consider. Loray Mills is a very nice building and I think it’s amazing that there will be a shopping mall on the bottom floors for the residents to shop in sometime in the future. For this trip, I can use images, facts and information
I am comparing the Wabash county and Miami county jails. I’m comparing that Wabash is linear and Miami is a pod system, the capacity between the two jails, and the visitation. The capacity at the Wabash county jail is not very much. The visitation isn’t that great either.
The Allen county old jail was made in 1869 and operated continuously until 1958. The Iola jail was made of an old two-story structure that was built of native limestone and was home to many notorious criminals
Andersonville Prison epitomized the ultimate crime against humanity. The atrocities that transpired in this confederate prison sparked reaction and outrage at the conclusion of the Civil War.
On 7/31/15 at approximately 1947 hours I was assigned to Tower 14 at the Lower Buckeye jail located at the address listed above. Officer Mora B3172 who was assigned as the Tower 13 control officer called one core to notify the floor officers that multiple inmates were arguing and could escalate into a fight.

On page one, in paragraph four, Dr. King claims that he could not wait around in Atlanta knowing how what violence and discrimination was currently happening in Birmingham. However, if he could not stand for not doing anything to help, why did he not join the freedom riders movement, which surfaced many of the problems happening in Birmingham?
Wabash County jail was built in 1979, making it older than Miami County jail by 30 years. This facility holds 72 inmates at full capacity while Miami County holds 240, making it significantly smaller in size. Despite the differences, there are some similarities involving housing, visitation, and environmental conditions.
Tom Robinson is being moved to Maycomb County jail. This sparks trouble. Heck Tate one day comes to Atticus’s house with men on his lawn wishing they could speak to them. When Atticus went out that night to work Jem was getting ready to follow him, when Scout saw she insisted on going with Dill and Jem. They let her come. They followed him sneaking out of their house to find him. They found him sitting alone outside the jail reading the paper. Then four cars show up and it looks like Atticus was expecting them to arrive. Scout runs after Atticus and Jem and Dill then soon reveal themselves. Atticus immediately demands them to go home. Jem did protest and when he did one was the men grabbed him by his collar. Then Scout kicked him. The man said
It’s has been one year since two NYPD officers were gunned down execution style while sitting in their marked patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The ambush horror was met with anger and sadness across the nation as two innocent lives were lost just solely because they wore blue.
Throughout the nineteenth century, penology was characterized by a debate between two 'schools'. The first was the system of "solitary" and "segregation" proposed by the Pennsylvania penitentiary. The second, that of which will be discussed in this paper, the "silent" and "congregate" system was designed for the Auburn penitentiary in New York State.
Visiting the Prairie du Chien Correctional Facility was a truly eye opening experience. I could go on all day about the things that I saw, heard, and learned. Immediately following the experience, I called my mom to tell her all about it. She really doesn’t understand what is going on in the system, which is frustrating for me, so I talked to my Grandpa instead, as he seems to know a little more and be more open to new information and ideas.
On November 5, 2015 at approximately 1000 hours I took a jail tour of the Santa Cruz Correctional facility on Water Street, with Melinda Payne as my tour guide. There were a few things that stood out to me during the jail tour. First, I observed how clean and orderly the jail was. There were no bad odors and the walls, floors, and windows were well kept. Personally, I try to maintain a clean and organized workspace therefore the jail environment fit me well. Second, I noticed the overall size of facility. The jail is relatively small in size and was broken into different sections. Personally, I like this layout because I believe it allows for better communication to inmates and staff, better response to major incidents, and quick ability to
Learning about the county jail was an interesting experience. Amongst all the sight seeking, I realized there was several departments within the jail itself. The different departments are called the booking department, incident reports, and finger printing department.
After being forced to work countless hours in the hot sun in a field for little to no wage and for it to be finally be over, I would think that I would be treated as an equal in society. The Letter of Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther explained the aftermath of segregation how it affected African Americans. Segregation divided African Americans into three different groups those who benefitted from segregation, resorted to violence due to segregation, or accepted segregation. African Americans somehow had to gain social equality and still keep a harmless image in society. After relentless attempts to get the government’s attention so that they would take action against segregation, all the government did was prolong action. The government repressed
According to Brad Plumer in the article Throwing Children in Prison Turns out To be a Really Bad Idea, “The United States still puts more children and teenagers in juvenile detention than any other developed nations in the world, with about 70,000 detained on any given day in 2010. And as it turns out, this is very likely a bad idea” (Plumer, 15). Juvenile delinquents are children under eighteen years old that commit illegal crimes. Juvenile delinquents are kids that are likely to come from an urban area where they lack education opportunities. They are defiant, hostile and impulsive. They started to commit crimes because of the lack of economic opportunities they were facing. For example, in urban areas they do not have any jobs
