What I have found is not only is there a monogamous difference when it comes to same sex marriages but it also has financial benefits as well. It is to say that there are lots of factors that do play into divorce rates but it seems that the main link between both articles and my prior knowledge is that economic stability is a very big role when it comes to marriage. A couple that is more likely to have children are more pressured to stay together which makes sense seeing as a heterosexual couple can have child on accident, versus the chance that a homosexual couple would want a child and have to go through with the process of adoption. It is also to say that because the statistical average of gay couples age is to be lower than heterosexual couples age, it is to their advantage to be more willing to stay together for a longer period of time. The real factor that has been seemed to link gay marriage divorce rates with their likelihood to stay together is financial stability. Statistically, male couples make more money than women couples, who still make more than heterosexual couples. Now why same-sex couples make more money can be seen through more sociological imagination. It is a wide-known fact that men make more money than women, so very simply, in a male couple there is no woman in the relationship to be affected by the sex-based wage gap, that relationship will make more money altogether. Now as to why women couples have more money on average versus
The controversy between marriage equality and the exercise of religious freedom is a confliction between nondiscrimination laws and religious freedom laws. Religious freedom seemed to be an important aspect of an American citizen, after all it is the very first amendment to the constitution. With each American citizen being granted equality by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, discrimination made against an individual based on his/her sexual preference may seem to violate this act. In history, religious organizations typically been immune from state and local laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. However, with the cases of Obergefell v. Hodges and Kim Davis this stance is challenged.
in terms of fundamental rights. However there is a significant difference same sex marriage is the lifelong commitment between two consenting adults of the same sex. In addition to that gay marriage doesn't have any negative effects within society. Whereas plural marriages have had a great deal of affect within society and crime. It's been reported that “Polygamous communities suffer from increased levels of physical and sexual abuse against women, increased rates of maternal mortality, shortened female life expectancy, lower levels of education for girls and boys, lower levels of equality for women, higher levels of discrimination against women, increased rates of female genital mutilation, increased rates of trafficking in women, and decreased
Out of all the thousands of rights, marriage equality; equal acceptance of same-sex marriages; is the biggest controversy. Opposite sex couples believe that gay marriage will harm or destroy marriage all together if it is allowed, because it is not a ‘traditional’ marriage between one male and one female. Only banning same-marriage will destroy marriage and society. Marriage is a keystone of our social order. Studies show that the United States has one of the highest divorce rates when compared to other countries (infogr.am). Allowing gays the privilege to get married will increase marriage rates and less couples will get divorced due to not being attracted to the opposite sex. The Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law and Public Policy, which has conducted previous studies on same-sex relationships and parenting, collected administrative data on divorce rates between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender couples from New Hampshire and Vermont. The data found that same-sex couples divorced at an average rate of 1.1 percent annually between the two states, compared with 2 percent annually between heterosexual pairs
Many gay couples have never gotten the chance to devote their love to each other because of legal circumstances. A debate that comes up in many conversations is that it goes against what God believes is best for us. As a Christian’s point of view, many would argue that as couples it is to follow God’s way of living. By letting homosexual couples marry, heterosexual couples believe that we could fail our marriage system. As a traditional couple, divorce rates are high in number. If the government lets gay couples marry, then our divorce rate could go up even higher in number. In the article, A Review and Critique of Research on Same-Sex Parenting and Adoption, the author says, “Despite being a lesbian herself, she found it difficult to locate lesbian couples who had been together more than 20 years” (Hosking, pg. 651). The author proves that gay marriages are just as unstable as heterosexual couples. So why legalize something that has as much instability to what we have
State legislatures, voters and more recently the courts have made sweeping changes over the past two decades in laws defining whether marriage is limited to relationships between a man and a woman or is extended to same sex couples. Gay marriage and gay rights are a major controversy in the world today. It is a constant debate on whether or not traditional marriage is out-of-date and that a new way is better. Although many believe in gay rights, it is difficult to support something that is against the foundation of America, and something that is harmful to the people of America.
Growing up we have always dreamt of the day we would be walked down the aisle by our fathers, or watch the love of our life walk towards up in front of rows of people. Even before were even engaged we wonder what colors or theme the wedding will be, how many people will be there, or where it will be! Unifying your love with somebody during your adult years has been something expected of us since childhood. Marriage is a big milestone in life, opening and closing many doors in life. In addition to changing your family it also affects other aspects of your life. Studies have shown that the satisfaction in marriage and the quality of happiness and health of marriage are different for heterosexuals and homosexuals. The partner’s understanding for one another, their “fighting styles”, and outlook on life are big aspects of marriage. These aspects differ among the separate groups, which is why same-sex couples have higher rates of satisfaction in life and have happier, healthier marriages compared to opposite-sex couples.
Since before the public ratified the Constitution and adopting the Bill of Rights and even prior to Marbury v. Madison establishing the doctrine of judicial review, the clergy solemnization power existed as an embedded feature of this nation’s marriage traditions. The power both allows Solemnization laws grant officials near unbridled discretion within the statutory limitations in deciding who they will perform marriage ceremony, and to ministers who perform religious marriages to marry couples legally under the civil law. Also, the Fourteenth Amendment recognizes same-sex marriage in all 50 States; It described marriage as a purely secular institution, which serves governmental interests. In the light of, Justice Kennedy highlighted that religious organizations can advocate base on the belief that same-sex marriage should not be condoned (Horwitz, P. 2014).
As of today, the world is constantly becoming more modern. Social issues of the past are nothing like they are now. Controversies, like equal rights for gays and lesbians, are being debated and resolved as the world advances. Now that gays and lesbians have the same civil rights as a straight man or woman, many states are wondering if homosexuals should be afforded the right to marry the same gender. Same sex marriage is becoming an important topic in America which holds a great deal of attention; while many people and organizations encourage and uphold the right to a same sex wedding, there are still those who refuse to stand behind it.
We live in the Twenty-first Century where same-sex marriage is legal in the United States. There are people who still don’t believe that same-sex marriage is pure love, just like a marriage between a man and a woman. Now, is the time to show that love is love no matter who is married.
Some more examples of our freedoms being expanded include the second amendment and the recent law on same sex marriage. With the second amendment which is the right to bare arms, citizens now have the option to carry a firearm on them always. This plays a huge role in our society today due to the many terrorist attacks that are happening around the world. With more people carrying weapons on them, we can now defend ourselves from dangerous situations and help defend others during these terrorist attacks. Now with same sex marriage finally legal, many individuals can now marry and finalize their marriage with their significant other of the same sex. This became legal with the help of the Obama administration when he attended office during the years 2008-2016.

Same-sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue that government laws do not hold true to God’s law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes.
“People should be treated equally, regardless of who they are or who they love…” said former president Barack Obama (Dennis, Steven T.). Same-sex marriage has produced a debate for the longest time. People have disciminatied against same-sex couples and transgenders. The world needs to relize people cannot change who they are. Times are changing, and the world needs to change too. Same-sex marriage and transgenders should have rights and not face discrimination.
In 2004, Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage that lead its divorce rate to decline 21% between 2003 and 2008 and have the lowest divorce rate in the country in 2008. (Silver) It is clear that gay couples are very devoted and committed to their significant other that it lowers divorce rates instead of increasing them. Alaska had decided to ban gay marriage in 1998 which raised their divorce rates by 17.2%. (Silver) This article explains that heterosexual couples are more likely to get a divorce compared to homosexual couples due to its statistics. We should consider that allowing gay marriage is a positive idea and and doesn’t do any harm to society but adding productive results.
The next fact that Dr. Cameron talks about is homosexual marriage having the highest rate of domestic violence. He gives many reasons for supporting his facts with many different statistics, including that the average rate of domestic violence in a traditional marriage that was established by a nationwide federal government survey of 6, 779 married couples in 1988 is less than five percent per year. Only two percent of husbands and 3.2 percent of wives said that they were hit, shoved or had things thrown at them but with unmarried couples the percentages rise with a rate of about 20 % to 25% per year. But in a same-sex marriage, 48% of forty-three lesbian and 39% of thirty-nine gay couples reported domestic violence and from a study that had 70 lesbian and gay students that were put into a conflict resolution situation with gay and lesbian relationships, there was an estimated 29% of gay and 56% of lesbian couples that experienced violence in the past year.
