Genesis 12 through 50 Journal

Genesis is a story of the beginning of time and the ancestry record of the seed line from Adam to Christ. It is a story that proves to us that God is in control and his will will be done no matter how much we resist it. The first chapters of Genesis tell us of the miraculous events that happen during creation. This week’s reading tells us about four outstanding people that God hose to use to continue his promise of a redeemer to save his people. The first outstanding person we encounter is Abraham, who was born Abram. Abram was called by God, in other words, God spoke to Abram. God told Abram and his wife Sari; who later was changed to Sarah, to move from all that they knew, he promised to bless them

Jacob ended up having four wives counting the two slaves that his wives gave him and a total of eleven children. Jacob’s father in law took advantage of him at almost every opportunity. The love he had for his wife Rachel, the treatment of him by his father in law and “God’s sovereign election” (Genesis, The Bible In Focus) helped to change Jacob’s heart.
Joseph was the fourth and final outstanding person that we encountered in this week’s reading. Joseph was the eleventh and most favored son of Jacob. Joseph’s older brothers despised him. They despised him so much that they beat him and sold him into slavery. Another reason Joseph’s brothers hated him so was that he had dreams that one day his entire family would bow down to him. Joseph may not have known it at the time, but God gave him the gift of interpreting dreams which later saved his life as well as made this dream he had as a young man come true.
After Joseph was sold into slavery, he earned the respect of his owner, Potiphar and was given great privileges, but Potiphar’s wife betrayed him and he was thrown into prison. Joseph earned the respect of the prison guards, and became a leader of the prisoners. Even though he was forgotten about in prison for 20 years, he kept to his faith and true to his
Jealousy and hate cause Joseph’s brothers to sell him into slavery. The explanation for the jealousy and hate are found in the book of Genesis in the Bible. The Bible explains that Joseph was loved more by their father (Israel) since he was the child of his father’s old age. Another reason is because God gave Joseph the ability to interpret dreams which caused his brothers’ jealousy to turn into hate. (The Norton Anthology World Literature, pg. 180) The jealousy and hate the brothers felt for Joseph would cause the brothers to sell him into slavery and deceive their father.
So when Joseph came to them, they took off his beautiful robe and they threw him in an empty well. Then they sold him to people that were going to Egypt. The brothers took the robe and dipped it in animal’s blood and brought it to their father. They told Jacob that an animal killed him. Jacob was really upset. Joseph was now in Egypt working as a slave. He was Potiphar’s helper and made him mandated of everything he owned. Then the Pharaoh sent him to jail. After some time in jail a cupbearer and a baker’s Pharaoh had a dream that he was going to get out of jail soon. Joseph told them to tell the Pharaoh about him but the cupbearer forgot. Two years later the Pharaoh had a dream, but nobody could understand it. Then the cupbearer remembered what Joseph did for him, and Joseph was brought to Pharaoh. Joseph explained him and the Pharaoh believed all that he told him, and put him in charge of all the land of Egypt. People came from all over to buy grain from Joseph, including Joseph's brothers. When his brothers came, Joseph was able to recognize them, but they did not. Joseph told them that he was their brother and even thought they were afraid Joseph was not mad at them because he knew that God had a better plan for him. After it his entire family moved to Egypt
Joseph was born into a family of conflict. Joseph was Jacob’s eleventh son. Joseph was born to Jacob’s second wife, Rachel. Jacob had a total of four wives, the first two were sisters, Leah and Rachel. The second two; Bilhah and Zilpah, were slaves, given to Jacob by their wives to produce more children when they could not. Jacob was partial to Joseph because he was the oldest child of his most loved wife and this caused him to be thought of poorly by his brothers.

The first five chapters of Genesis provide not only historical information about Creation, the Fall, and the first generations of mankind, but they also describe God’s attitude toward His creation and towards sin. These chapters also provide insights into the nature of man. For example, we learn from Genesis 1 and 2 that we have been made in the image of God. This means that humans have authority, value, and purpose because God possesses these traits. The first four chapters of Genesis give us insight into how each of these traits specifically apply to human life and society.
In John Wyndham’s novel, The Chrysalids, Joseph Strorm is motivated by upholding his families’ reputation through religion. He learns from the mistakes that his father made when he was a leader, and uses those to help him be even stronger. He proves how motivated he is by punishing his brother and sister-in-law, and he was an abusive father, which proves just how focused and fixated Joseph is on his reputation. It becomes the focal point of his life.
Despite the fact that Joseph’s father was killed in a pit accident in 1873, he grew a lot of self-confidence through that experience and strong sense obligation. This however gave him a lot of responsibility and he was the family wage earner. He later then he became a lay preacher and a successful public speaker. He became involved in Trade Union Fairs: before he was the age of 25 he became elected successively to all executive positions in his union lodge. After this he started being interested in politics.
In the epic Genesis, Joseph is a character who endures countless hardships only to discover that his suffering was all part of God’s plan. This realization, along with many other crucial plot developments, is made possible by the actions of Judah. Judah begins the story in a place of envy and selfishness, but later he shows great moral development by committing the ultimate sacrifice in the name of his father.
The story of Joseph in the Bible begins with explanations of Joseph’s youth and innocence and how his brothers were jealous of him because he was the “blessed son”. It involves a lot of specifics, like it mentions that Joseph was seventeen years
-Joseph just remained faithful serving the living God despite of heartaches that he had gotten from his own family.
To begin with, the text explicitly states that “Israel loved Jacob best of all his son’s” (Genesis 37:3). As a result, it should not come to a surprise that Joseph’s brothers’ jealousy, a primitive characteristic nature of man, festered and grew with each case of preferential treatment. When Joseph finally crosses the breaking point and tells his brothers they “were bowing down to [him]” (Genesis 37:9) in his dreams, the brothers without hesitation sell Joseph to Potiphar as a slave. They then proceed to dip his ornamented tunic in animal blood as a means to avoid repercussions, leaving Jacob “mourning for his son for many days” (Genesis 37:34).
Joseph: was the favored son of Rachel and Israel (Jacob). His dreams told of his rise to power, without the help of his family. His father showered him with gifts, the most prominent being the rainbow coat, making all of his brothers immensely jealous. They conspired to sell him into slavery, so Joseph worked as a slave for many years before rising through the ranks to become the dream translator of the Pharoah. After many setbacks, he ran into his brothers again, who did not recognize him at first, and reunited.
Once there was a man, wise, good looking, and overall extraordinarily successful. One might not consider it when looking upon him, but he had suffered a great deal is his life thus far. Everything was about to change yet again for him with the appearance of the instruments of his oldest hardship. His brothers. As can be plainly seen, this is the life of Joseph, and at this point in the narrative his brothers have just arrived on the scene. Backing up a tad, at the outset of Genesis 42, Jacob is admonishing his eleven sons to head to Egypt to buy food. They agree and all head to Egypt save Benjamin, Joseph 's only full blood brother. Benjamin did not make the trip because his father worried excessively over him. They made it to Egypt and
The most important human in the book of Genesis is Abraham because of his relationship that he developed with God. God uses Abraham as a way for his people to be allotted from other nations. God and Abraham make an agreement with each other that if he leaves his nation and follow him that he will bless Abraham with a child.
Adam and Eve, the two that started it all. These two names will remain as a reminder to us forever because of their actions. Genesis chapter two talks about how man was made perfect; flawless and in God’s favor. These two individuals change how mankind would be from that time on. Sin entered the world and things began to change.
