This country is divided into three principal geographic regions which are the Costa (the “coast”, mountainous arid coastline), the Sierra (“mountain range”, which are cold and rugged Andean highlands), and the Selva (“jungle”, which are rain forests). In the mid-1800s, Peru's economy revolved around natural fertilizer which they called guano. Guano was the gold of the time, it would grow crops in almost any soil. Guano was in high demand, as it was the best fertilizer at the time. It had the perfect combination of nutrients and had plentiful supply of nitrogen and phosphorus. Peru was flourishing but their economy ran solely on guano. Guano was being devoured and it would soon run out. After Peru ran out of guano, the country collapsed.

There are many landforms in Colombia, each fitting into ecosystems that are intricately unique. The Amazon river is a habitat for animals (black caimans, piranhas, giant river otters, and pink dolphins) that are part of the surrounding Amazon rainforest ecosystem. The Colombian landscape is admittedly in many ways like other South American countries, but is nevertheless astonishing. There are the Andes mountains, the Amazon rainforest, the grassland plains, and a small area of desert. Some interesting landforms include the Andean Highlands, the Middle Magdalena Basin, Mt. Ritacuba Blanco, the Cumbal volcano.
Political turmoil in the United States is difficult to keep up with; however, it is important to pay attention to foreign affairs as well. In the country of Guatemala fifty percent of children under the age of five are severely malnourished, the fourth highest rate of malnutrition in the world. Malnutrition is defined as the lack of proper nutrition, cause by not having enough to eat, causing failure to thrive. Americans need to work together to stop the detrimental effects of malnutrition by focusing on the agricultural, government involvement, and education. By looking at the food created in Guatemala, we can see how these children get their energy.

Hunger has stalked Venezuela for years. But now, it is killing children at an alarming rate. Hospitals are overflowing with malnourished children. Colombia has tried to make floating houses Incase of another flood, but they never finished the project. This is one of the many factors of how malnutrition started in Colombia.
Bolivia is an amazing country, rich in culture, tourism, and history. Located in western-central South America, Bolivia is bordered by Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. In the next couple of paragraphs I’m going to talk about poverty in Bolivia, and how it has caused an epidemic of malnutrition children, I’m then going to narrow the topic down by talking about Bolivia’s child mortality rates and healthcare system, and the problems with healthcare access, I’m going to talk about Bolivia’s lack of access to food security and sanitation, and lastly I’m going to talk about the benefits that the popularity of the Bolivian crop quinoa has had on Bolivian nutrition.
