Many people are debating whether or not school sports should be removed due to the critical consequences they are having on young athletes academic, and social lives. Studies have proven that cutting sports from schools can improve students grades in a plethora of ways. Today, majority of kids mainly focus on doing their absolute best academically, and they also enjoy after school sports. Though some students are doing great in school; many do not have the time to do homework because of these activities. After school sports might be fun, but it is not helping the students at all. The games themselves might reduce stress levels; but it has been shown that schools tend to spend more on the fields and the bleachers then should actually be spent. A school was almost shut down because of the academic failures, but somehow still had equipment to play games. Therefore, schools should get rid of after school sports because they spend too much money on them, America is lacking academily compared to other countries, and they pay too much attention to the games.

According to Amanda Ripley, once Premont High School removed their sports, the campus was “eerily quiet,” but, “this quiet had an upside” (11). She also found that one student stated, “There was all this extra time,” and, “You never got behind on your work” (Ripley 11). It is obvious that freeing schools from their sports is a great way to allow students to catch up on their work, and gives them more time to increase their effort after school. Henceforth, it is a good idea to remove sports from schools to allow students to have more free time.

For years sports have been in school, but they can disrupt the learning of students and they cost more money for schools. Games can be too tough and it can be tough for new students who don't know how to play. Therefore, school sports should be banned because they are very expensive, lack in school, and schools would have to be shut down.
