Do you think getting told what to wear to school is okay? I strongly disagree with this. Getting told what to wear is like getting told how to live life. Most teens girls like to wear leggings, yoga pants and ect. I think that you should let up on this rule ! Why is this rule in place? Many thinks it will districted the males in high school, if you are a female. The saying “boys will be boys” is a big factor of why females can not wear leggings, yoga pants and ect.. Males get to wear whatever they feel like wearing. So, why can not girls? Some girls like to wear leggings or yoga pants to be conferrable. What is its purpose? Some may think because it may help keep the boys eye else where. Some boys may not even look at what a girl is wearing.
The prominent reason behind the various overdone school rules regarding dress is the loose power that administrators have been given. They have been “reserve[d] the right to determine if a clothing item or accessory is appropriate for school” (Carroll High School Student Handbook 2010-2011 18). The officials at school are using their own personal opinions to judge the students’ dress. Since styles change as time goes on, the generation in control and the
Girls can not help what distracts a boy; therefore, they should not be the ones who are punished because of what a guy does. In Patricia Kozickas article she says, “While the given reason for many school dress codes is to “reduce distractions” in the classroom, Rodger doesn’t buy that. She argues that everyone has to learn how to concentrate and not be distracted by those around them, regardless of what young women wear” (Kozicka 1). Susan Rodgers, who was mentioned in the quote, is another women who felt as if the school dress codes were to strict, and that what girls wear is considered a distraction to other boys in the classroom. She argues that what they wear should not affect and distract a boy, and that girls should not be the ones who have to change what they wear for that reason.
Some of the school's rules are for the boys education. So essentially the girls have to “cover it up” for the boys learning. In no way are women objects for boys to get distracted from looking at. If a boy feels as though he needs to look at a girl then he should have to move seats or go outside it is not the girls affecting the boys learning they are doing it to themselves. Public schools are for freedom. If someone wanted
The people who are in charge of creating the school dress code don’t think of girls feelings, or their need to be an individual. There are also some unnecessary rules in schools, and what schools deemed inappropriate or distracting. The schools are taking some of the girls rights away. I believe that the dress code for the younger generation is too focused on girls, and it’s way too strict. Students should not have to wear school uniforms, some schools went for believing it would get rid of competition.
Students wake up and go to school and do all this work while still conforming to what the schools say they should wear but as long as they are doing this work should they be able to wear what they want to wear , I mean shouldn't they as long as they still get their work done they should be able to wear what they want and not get in trouble for it,
Girls face more judgement and criticism in society than guys do. This is where double standards comes to play in society. Double standards is when a gender is seems superior than the other. It is very commonly known that women face harsher criticism that men do but it is very taboo in society when men face it as well. In society, women are constantly told how to dress because if one reveals too much skin they are distracting boys. Based on the article, The Double Standards of Gender in Society, by Dasia Echevarria states, “We see this in schools when a dress code is put in place, yet it only applied to girls.” Dress codes are always enforced in school but they are mainly towards females. The problem with the dress codes is that schools are basically sexualizing all these females at a young age. That is the main problem when it comes to the dress
Have you ever been excluded from learning because of what you wore to school? In most schools, dress codes are set in place to provide a better learning space for all students. Having a dress code can oppress students because students are given the impression that they should not express themselves. Not all families can afford the clothes that abide by the rules. For example, some students don 't have the means to pay for new clothes, so they have to use hand-me-down clothing. Enforcing a dress code can lead to more problems in the long run because of the exceptions made for students who are athletes and cheerleaders. Many school faculty members including teachers and administrators think that keeping a dress code will keep students looking appropriate while learning, but this idea is wrong because it keeps students from expressing themselves and, the dress code singles out women.
In addition to, some people think school dress codes are fair and do not target a specific gender. Some girl test the limits by wear a crop top or short shorts with tights under them. Yes dress code is great to a certain extent. Why can the school board not cut slack and get on the girls full on breaking the rules. Finally, schools need to stop targeting girls and being sexist towards them, be less harsh on girls and their clothes.
High School should not have dress codes. Dress codes are going to be broken no matter what. Kids like to express their feelings through music, their rooms and you guessed it their clothing. Yes some kids go over the top with their clothing but if your going to punish anybody then punish them. But with that I think high school should have dress codes. With great freedom comes great responsibility. If you want to be the center of attention then go somewhere else and do that. School is for learning not showing off who has the better clothing or who has the new kicks. Learn things that your going to need in the world. Like if you want to be a professor than you are going to need a lot of math, reading , history and etc. No one cares what you
So my school has decided to change the dress code. They ask me what would I like to change and why.So I tell them they should let girls wear shorter outfits so girls could express themselves more and feel comfortable. Some may disagree with me some may not I don't care.Girls should be able to wear what they want and they shouldn't have to be stuck in jeans in the middle of summer during school it's unfair to us girls. We are in the 6th grade now we shouldn't have to be stuck with jeans or long outfits if we don't want to.What I am trying to say is what we wear tells people who we are and what we like to do it tells people a story like if you play sports or something someone can tell that about you by what you wear.
What it boils down to, is the fact that males cannot control themselves. In this article it states that some people believe that girls’ bodies are dangerous, and sexual or physical harassment is inevitable. Girls are the ones that get the most recognition for their attire because of the jewelry, makeup, and hair styles some have, but that does not mean that men are exempt from the school dress code. In some schools, girls are not allowed to wear flip flops, tank tops, yoga pants, or leggings, because they are “too revealing,” but men can wear brightly colored shoes, cutoffs, and any pants of their choosing. Girls have been sent home from their proms because their dress was too sexual or provocative, but men are applauded for how nice they clean up, even though their suit does not match the dress code set in place. Many schools are trying to create a
Most schools have dress codes in place within reason: no crop tops, no short shorts, and no provocative clothing. Sometimes, the school's expectations of clothing cross the line. Some schools say that girls who wear leggings without a long shirt or a shirt that "doesn't fit them right" should have to change. Not every person
because it’s just clothes. In society especially back then you were told to wear what your gender
And you can’t dye your hair if it's distracting. And I can’t understand why girls can’t wear leggings and yoga pants it never said on our dress code policy. I think it's fine to wear them if it covers your butt and it covers your entire legs. For boys, they have similar policy their pants can’t be baggy and needs to be at your waistlines. So, are they going to get dress coded if they wear their pants above their waistlines?
Piper Nicole is a sophomore at Englewood Senior High. For over the past two years , she have been suspended and sent home approximately nine times for dress code violations ,“distracting’ her male school mates along with “disturbing” the learning environment.
