Day after day, we would pass the mansion building on our way to and from school. Branches of vines and clusters of moss crawled up the sides of the building. I could see the paint, tearing off the walls. People for years have said the mansion building is haunted, but I don’t believe it. They say people have been possessed and killed there. Olivia, of course, believes every detail anyone tells him. To teach him a lesson, we decided to plan to spend the night in the mansion building this Saturday.
Macbeth is a play that is well-known for its variety of supernatural elements, including the witches, the ghost of Banquo, the goddess Hecate, hallucinations, madness, magic and of course the prophecies. Macbeth has the supernatural tied in to it in many ways. This play is saturated with the supernatural, all the plot within this play was either initiated by a supernatural creature or the product of supernatural influence, and the play has even become a supernatural entity itself. In fact, the play’s name is often forbidden to be said on stage or is called the Scottish play since it is bad luck and mysterious things tend to happen during its productions. Macbeth is also a lifelike play where all these fantastic beings are very much real, in
Crimson Peak, released in 2015 and directed by Guillermo del Toro, opens with a monologue by the film’s protagonist, Edith Cushing. This monologue continues for four minutes, encompassing a flashback which includes events of Edith’s childhood. During this flashback, Edith’s mother comes to her in the form of a ghost. The syuzhet presents ghosts as terrifying and unwanted antagonists that exist to terrorize the hapless Edith. However, the film’s primary twist is that the ghosts actually intend to protect Edith from harm, rather than inflict harm upon her. Her monologue in this opening scene introduces the role of ghosts in the story and establishes many of the film’s most prevalent trends. One such trend is the way the syuzhet makes horrifying
The possibility of the dead connecting with the living is brought to reality through the work of Lois Duncan in her novel Down a Dark Hall. In this supernatural mystery novel each character is controlled by the spirits of famous artists, writers, painters, and composer that still want their work to be heard. Slowly they are becoming slaves and losing who they are. The progression of their story and personality becomes lost in the plot of the story. Even though each character is well developed, the rest of the story fails to live up to what it could’ve been.

At around ten o’clock at night, a young girl was laying in bed when all of a sudden someone started rubbing her cheek. She looked around and no one was there. Was this her imagination, or was someone there? Ghosts always make their presence known, just like the Ghost in the tragedy Hamlet written by William Shakespeare. Throughout the character of the Ghost of Hamlet’s father, Shakespeare portrays many Elizabethan beliefs on ghosts. Shakespeare creates the question: is the ghost good or bad? Many people have their own opinion on this question, but in this writer’s opinion, the Ghost of Hamlet’s father is a good ghost because throughout the tragedy the Ghost of Hamlet’s father never physically hurts anyone, instead he persuades Hamlet
The narrator goes to a man’s house he knows little of and stays with him while he is sick. This situation strike most people as abnormal, but the narrator proceeds to go anyways. Also Roderick’s sister, Madeline, has an unknown sensory illness with the same symptoms as her brother. Later and on she is found to be dead and Roderick and the narrator bury her in a tomb inside the house. The situation is very odd, for one why would a person bury someone in a house, with a strange man he has not seen in years.

The supernatural is often used in pieces of writing to grasp reader’s attention. Some concepts they might use is magic, monsters, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, and witches. These creatures interest us, as humans, to read more. The supernatural also gives us something to believe in. Edgar Allan Poe’s stories tend to be more supernatural. For example, many supernatural things happened in “The Black Cat,” such as when Pluto’s image appears on the burning wall. Another supernatural thing was when the cat got inside of the wall and screamed. “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe is the best example of this debate, as it is often interpreted in many different ways. There are several theories on the story. Some researchers claim that there is a curse among the Ushers. Others debate that the house is haunted. Based upon the actions of the servants in the story, as well as Madeline’s resurrection, readers know that Roderick and the rest of his family are definitely vampires. (ADD CLOSING SENTENCE)
Kingston’s mother tells her the story of how she went to school to become a surgeon and what happened one night when all the young women were all talking about ghost’s. Kingston’s mother Brave Orchid was going to prove to the other young women that ghost’s are nothing to be terrified but are merely just pest’s and so she stayed in a haunted room all night (Kingston 57-75). The stories that Kingston’s mother told her about different myth’s and history about ghost’s and god’s has shaped the way Kingston integrates Myth and history into her literary works. This integration of myth and history into her literary works makes reading her many different books almost like their taking the reader to another world. The use of these many myths like the one of the ghost in Brave Orchid’s dormitory also shows the deep roots from China that Kingston’s family has and how it has influenced Kingston’s writing to be directly tied to her Chinese heritage.
