For someone who does not celebrate Christmas, December was enjoyably warm last year. My grandfather said he brought the warmth when he came back from Pakistan the month before; but for me, the outdoor activities that weekend were a guilty pleasure. I had daymares about sea levels rising and destroying the beautiful seacoast I have always called my home, my daughter growing up in a world lacking in luxuries that I have always had, cursing me for not taking care of the earth that she was to live on. I saved my grandpa the worry of what I know is a very serious problem: Global Warming(“What’s Behind the Freakishly Warm Winter in the Eastern U.S.?”).
Accordingly, there is a popular quote that frequents my Facebook newsfeed regularly: “There is no Planet B.” This would have meant nothing to me before, but taking Introduction to Environmental Issues has enlightened me on the true complexity of the global warming crisis. We have an exponentially growing human population with proportionally increasing demands that rob the health of this planet. Every single action we take is linked to toxic waste choking the immense but limited ocean. Pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is exposing every vulnerable life to the harmful rays of the sun and drowning precious land where water shouldn’t be. Global warming is no longer a debate but a crisis to be quickly addressed, considering more than 97 percent of scientists agree that climate change is a direct result of human
With the rise of calamitous news regarding extremists groups taking over certain states, countries threatening to go to war, and viruses spreading throughout the world; the outlook of humanity does not look good. In addition to these dire headlines is the matter of climate change, which, unfortunately, is not as alarming to the public eye. Nonetheless, climate change is a pressing matter as it will impact every facet of society from economy to even human survival. Perhaps the general public find climate change as a vapid subject because of its nature to react belatedly to human activity, and how it is often represented with numbers, graphs, and projections; things that are not compelling to those that do not understand its importance. Even
Even though there is evidence proving that the increasing danger of climate change and global warming is a threat to all life, anti-believers argue that although 2014 was deemed the hottest year on record, the year saw record snow and cold in all four hemispheres. Additionally, oceans are rising much less than predicted. In 2005, Al Gore predicted that oceans would rise 20 feet by 2100. However, 80% of the tide gauges show less rise than the official “global average”. In fact, many tide gauges show no rise in sea level, and almost none show any acceleration over the past 20 years (Top Ten Reasons). These statistics accurately represent how torn many are on the subject of climate change. Although there are great points to be made on each side, it is always better to be safe than sorry, and the fight against climate change, believe or not, should be in the back of one’s mind at all
Humans will destroy the earth if no one acts. Climate change is a serious problem that has been around for decades. The 21st century is special because of the technology and information available. Yet, people continue to ignore the overwhelming destruction happening to nature. Through many years, masses have begun to take responsibility and restore the planet. In time, the earth might be what it once was.
Global warming is a controversial topic, widely discussed among today’s society. It is significant because it deals with the opinions and beliefs of many individuals. It also creates controversy and provides society with the opportunity to express itself and its beliefs. Many people believe that the conditions of the climate have no correlation to human behavior and that nowadays, people exaggerate the impacts of climate change. However, these individuals fail to recognize the truth behind the topic. Global warming is both a real and serious threat to our existence that humans must address by altering their actions and behaviors.
Global warming is an issue that has been studied since the late nineteenth century and its adverse effects on the health of the planet have only increased. Not only does this issue broadly effect the world, but it also affects individual communities. Unfortunately, it is common for people to deny the effects of
Global warming, while once viewed as an unfounded concern by the political right, has quickly grown into a global issue recognized by a growing number of people. Over the years, the effects of global warming have taken a steady toll on the planet and has reached a point where it is more than “An Inconvenience Truth” Al Gore (2006). The effects include warming oceans, the raising of atmospheric temperatures, melting ice caps, and more. Despite a mountain of evidence that global warming is real and is something that should be taken very seriously, there are still people who choose to believe that it is only a myth. In fact, it is for this very reason that the term “Global Warming” has been generally changed to “Climate Change.” Hopefully, reading
Within the last fifty years, global temperature has increased significantly faster than the past 650,000 years. In the next one hundred years, the global temperature is supposed to rise by three to nine degrees. This may not seem like such a big change however, with a rise in temperature, many negative consequences will being to show. Some of these consequences include but are not limited to destroying the O-zone, increase in disease, powerful weather disasters, rising sea levels, and overall decrease in health for all things living on Earth. If people do not become informed by the consequences of what they do every day, humans may no longer have a planet to call home.
Global warming is a big problem and impacts our environment in a negative way because it is heating the Earth. Global warming impacts all of the life around us even though not many people recognize it. There are many problems that global warming will make to our environment and it has already impacted it over time. Although, there are many problems, there are also solutions to stop global warming. Climate change is most closely related to global warming and many scientists have found ways to try and put a stop to it.
“Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think it is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.” This quote from Bill Nye illustrates the serious nature of climate change. Climate change is the most serious issue that is plaguing the world. Global temperatures have been increasing in recent years and it is clear that our climate is changing. Climate change is the change of temperature and weather in our environment over long periods of time. A majority of scientists suspect that humans are causing climate change by emitting CO2 into the atmosphere which creates a greenhouse effect and warms the planet. The effects of climate change are far-reaching, impacting ocean life and plant life across the globe. It also directly impacts humans because global temperatures may cause sea levels to rise and temperatures become too warm to live in. Climate change is real and is occurring because the effects of climate change can be seen in our oceans, in global temperature increases, and because humans are directly causing climate change.
In 2006, former senator Al Gore created an academy award winning documentary on global warming entitled “An Inconvenient Truth” . The movie earned several awards including an academy award for best documentary and gore later received a noble peace prize. The movie discussed several different topics of great concern to global warming; such as permafrost, climbs in temperature, extinction of species, drought, and fatigue to name a few. Four writers in five different articles discussed the three topics of greenhouse gases, climate change, and causes of global warming. These writers are writer and scholar Bill McKibben in “Think Again: Climate Change” and “How Close to catastrophe”; William J. Broad, writer for the New York Times in “From a Rapt audience, a call to cool the hype”; writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kevin O’Brien, in “Global Warming? I won’t be losing any sleep over it”; and Alan Zarembo, staff writer for the the Los Angeles Times, in “Game over on global warming?” All though the articles explain some different topics from one another, only one of them disagree with gore on the causes for global warming being humans, they all agree that there will be impacts to the environment, and all of them believe that greenhouse gases are one of the primary causes for global warming.

Global warming has been a hot topic worldwide for over a decade. While many believe it is a problem that needs to be tended to immediately, others believe or claim for political reasons that it is just propaganda. Global warming is described by Bodnar as “The increase in temperature around the world caused by gases in the atmosphere.” (Bodnar 7) Many scientists believe that carbon dioxide gases are the main cause of Global Warming. Things such as old factories and cars emit greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere when they are put to use. This generally comes from old cars and old factories made before the nineteen nineties, because in recent years technology has been manufacturing more eco-friendly cars and factories that produce less waste. Since the discovery of global warming there have been many technological advances made in an attempt to try put a stop to global warming such as the use of wind power, solar power, and hybrids.
Imagine this, it is one hundred and two degrees outside. The polar ice caps are gone, along with all the people and animals dependent on them for their survival. Long, intense heat waves continue scorching the Earth, and the destruction from natural disasters is on the rise. There is a reason behind all of this madness; this reason is global warming. Global warming is a problem that some people choose to ignore. They claim it does not exist. Global warming is real. It is time for people to stop ignoring it and start searching for a solution. Although many people do not believe in global warming, blaming the climate change on the sun, global warming is a serious danger to the Earth because it could have serious effects on the plant and
Global warming is a huge issues. It is very concerning when we get little amounts of snow during the winter. There is evidence that weather patterns are changing and unless change happens we will no longer get to enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. In my neighborhood we were only allowed to water our lawns twice a week this year. What will happen if this trend continues?
Attention: Does anyone remember last christmas, lounging and sunbathing in our daisy dukes? It was quite the enigma; Christmas blazes cozy sweaters and thick socks. Three Christmases ago, the outdoors were an Arctic wonderland. This isn’t any form of coincidence, and they’re sure to get warmer. This is caused by climate change, and it's certainly speeding up. The rate of Global Warming ensues 270 times faster from our carbon emissions, which to most of you may seem an unbelievable statistic (Lynas 327). An awkward Christmas environment is not the only concern from global warming; your health is in dire risk, too.
