Global Warming Is Man Made

Global Warming has been a big issue that has effects on the environment, people, and the world, and if not stopped now, the results could be catastrophic. The main cause of climate change is likely to be the result of too much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 creates a blanket which traps heat. Burning fossil fuels for energy, such as coal, oil, and natural gas release CO2 which impacts the atmosphere heavily. Waste management and agricultural practices also produce gases that contribute to climate change, such as methane. There are many contributing factors to climate change.

Greenhouse gases keep heat close to the earth’s surface making it liveable for humans and animals. However, global warming is happening largely due to an over-emittance of these gases and fossil fuels (natural oil, gasoline, coal)

In the article, Global Warming? It Natural, says Experts, the author argues global warming is a natural occurrence and not caused by mankind. The author Barry Wilmore receives most of his information and argument from Dennis Avery and Fred Singer. An emeritus professor of environmental science at the University of Virginia, Singer also wrote multiple books concerning climate change and global warming. Avery is the director of the Center for Global Food Issues at the Hudson Institute and the author of three books. Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 years, a book written by Avery and Singer connects the sun as the cause of global warming. The book expatiates global warming as an earth cycle that goes through a warming and cooling period every 1,500 years. However, research done by other scientists would disagree with them and their statement that global warming is natural. With an abundance of research and data that contradicts Avery and Singer’s theory; it is tough to take their book as truth.

These gasses trap warmth and reason the planet to warm through a procedure called the greenhouse effect. Since 1751 around 337 billion metric huge amounts of CO2 have been discharged into the climate from the using of fossil fills and concrete generation, expanding air CO2 from the pre-mechanical level of around 280 ppm (parts per million), to a high of 400 ppm in 2013. Methane, which is expanding in the climate because of farming and fossil fuel use, traps 84 times as much warmth as CO2 for the initial 20 years it is in the environment, and is in charge of around one-fifth of a dangerous atmospheric climate change since 1750. Nitrous oxide, fundamentally discharged through farming practices, traps 300 times as much warmth as CO2. Over the twentieth century, as the convergences of CO2, CH4, and NO2 expanded in the air, the earth warmed by pretty nearly 1.4°.

(UCSB, 2015) Although CO2 is essential for life, it can have harmful effects. Fossil fuels are any natural fuels that were formed on the Earth’s surface before humans existed. These natural fuels include: Coal, oil and natural gases. Humans have to burn these fuels in order to create vital essentials to life such as energy and electricity. Is global climate change man-made? Global temperature has been changing for the past couple of decades. This leaves researchers to believe that mankind is to blame for this abrupt change. Life on earth depends upon the average climate that has been around for thousands of years. Without this favorable climate, life on earth will be unsustainable. Those who argue that climate change is not affected by humans state that the emissions humans put into the atmosphere are too small to have an effect on the climate. It is believed that human activities are the cause of climate change. The world doesn’t have all the answers to why climate change is occurring, but there are general ideas. Evidence that the atmosphere and oceans are warming, rising sea levels and enormous declines in the amount of sea ice, glaciers and permafrost in the Arctic prove that climate change is indeed real.

Human activities are the leading contributing factors to climate change contributing to global warming. Whether it’s driving cars or heating our homes with natural gas, we are releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. According to an article written by Darryl Fears, “the planet is warming at an accelerated pace without any doubt, that humans are causing it with 95 percent certainty and that the past three decades have been the hottest since 1850.” The majority of human causes of global warming can be contributed to the increase of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, into the atmosphere. Of the greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide is said to be the most considerable cause of global warming, and most carbon dioxide emissions are the result of burning fossil fuels.

Gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane all “have the ability to absorb thermal energy (heat) emitted by the earth and thus are able to warm the atmosphere” (“Greenhouse Gases”). This warming is known as the “greenhouse effect.” The majority of greenhouse gases are a result of humans burning fossil fuels to create energy. With more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth’s climate is becoming warmer, leading to threatening consequences for the planet’s population.
