Most people have heard about the heating of the planet at some point. It is an almost inevitable topic of conversation. However, in a survey done on YouGov.com, it was found that only 36% of Americans believe that global warming is a serious issue (Global Survey Dahlgreen), and, based on another survey done by Monmouth university, only 70% admit that it is happening at all. (Monmouth University). However, global warming is a huge issue in the world, one that will only get worse if we continue to ignore it. Global warming is the heating of the Earth, as the name implies. It is caused by greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane, that we have released into our atmosphere through burned fossil fuels and other chemicals …show more content…
Thus, the lies are widely spread and believed, even by people who have no interest. The fact that so many people don’t believe global warming is a real problem is dangerous. Global warming, if not stopped, will destroy the human race, as well as many other species of animals. As the ice caps at the poles melt, species like polar bears, penguins, and arctic wolves that must cross the ice regularly to seek out food, shelter, and breeding grounds must swim longer and longer distances over open ocean (See Fig 1). Some drown, and some are simply cut off from food and starve.
We have already pushed many animals to extinction through deforestation, poaching, and other harmful activities. Global warming could be the final shove, sending the Earth’s biosphere into chaos. Animals will die off in droves, especially those that rely on large populations of prey for food. In mass extinctions like this, as we have seen time and time again through fossil records from times of mass die-offs, the animals at the TOP of the food chain are always hit the hardest. We, as humans, are at the top, and thus completely dependent on plants and animals of all kinds for food. If there is a mass extinction on Earth, we will be hit the hardest. Before it comes to that, we as a species should think long and hard about the choices we’ve made. The future of the Earth may depend on
Whenever someone thinks of CO2, they think of global warming. They are reminded of Al Gore and his stance on global warming and they automatically think it is true. He has a lot of evidence to back up his theory about how global warming exists and that it is the reason animals are going extinct and also why the climate is changing. Well these facts are wrong and there is evidence to prove it. Global warming is not real and the Earth might even be in a cooling period. There so many reasons to blame people for the epidemic of this false global warming. CO2, a naturally produced gas absorbed by oceans and trees could not be the reason, so what could? Well, nothing can, none of man’s efforts to control the climate will
Other species are being affected by this global warming. Especially, the animals that survive on ice like polar bears. Impacts of global warming include the melting of ice in the Antarctic; this is due to the rising temperature of the ocean surrounding the ice which then causes melting. However, some people argue that the ice caps are growing rather than shrinking so they completely devalue the issue of global warming. This is not necessarily true, since the heat from the ocean causes the ice to melt but the melted ice (turned into fresh water) also freezes immediately after it melts. So it is still an issue that is supposed to keep an eye on. The ecological impacts of ice melting would be the reduction of small ice caps which polar bears land
"We call them dumb animals, and so they are, for they cannot tell us how they feel, but they do not suffer less because they have no words” (Anna Sewell). There is undeniable evidence that animals are being affected by climate change. Even though the effects are difficult to measure, there are many different ways animals are being affected. With the loss of predator and prey species it affects the life cycles in the food chain. The earth’s climate change causes habitats such as snow, ice, or forest areas to alter, resulting in loss of habitat and food accessibility as well as causing extinction.
Global Warming is the increase of Earth's surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels
It's no surprise to most people that the idea of global warming is a highly controversial and debated topic. But is there any real evidence that global warming is a growing problem or is global warming just a big scare tactic being used to get people to comply with strict government regulations? Global warming is widely believed to be the main cause of rising average global temperatures. In reality, global warming isn't really all what it has been exaggerated to be. Many of the predicted effects of global warming over time have actually been proven to be false all together.
One of the effects of global warming is the polar ice caps’ melting. Scientists have been researching and examining the polar ice caps for a long time and they have come to the conclusion that the thin ice sheets are slowly wasting away. They have also found out that Greenland’s glaciers are getting smaller and smaller. Places around the globe that use to be covered in ice and snow are now showing more green terrain as the years go on and as the winter months grow warmer. The polar ice caps are melting more and more due to higher global temperatures. This is really bad because the ice caps “reflect and help regulate the Earth’s temperatures.”
To start, global warming has been a growing problem for several years across the world. Global warming is the warming of the Earth's atmosphere (Ward 56). The increase in temperature has to be over a long period of time. When toxic gases like carbon dioxide and methane are released into the open air and are trapped in the atmosphere (Staff). These greenhouse gases destroy the ozone layer, making sunrays easier to reach Earth. This depletion overall increases the heat in the world. In fact, the greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere cause a spike in global temperature, known as global warming.
Global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere that is caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. There are many explanations as to why this happened. Most reasons will relate back to human activities.
Global Warming is overall increase in temperature of planet earth due to emissions of green house gasses like carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Human activities like fuel burning in industries and automobiles, burning down the forests and human waste release sufficient amount of greenhouse gasses in atmospheric layer of earth. Atmosphere consists of carbon
Global warming has been a hot button lately in the news. The main reason why global warming has been big issue is because people argue if global warming is real or not. There are good points to both sides of the argument. Even though temperatures have not been recorded since around 1850, some scientist believe there is not enough data to confirm global warming , global warming does exist because rise in average temperatures and the glaciers in antarctica and other mountain ranges are shrinking.
Global warming is the long term trend in the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This entrapment of greenhouse gases is what is causing average temperatures around the world to rise. Global Warming is responsible for the increase in natural disasters, because since the global climate has been continuously increasing over the years it has increased the chances for natural disasters to occur around the world.
Global warming is the increase in the average surface temperature of the Earth due to the effect of the buildup of greenhouse gases, due to deforestation and burning fossil fuels which causes the heat to be trapped that would otherwise escape from the earth. To understand global warming, you need to understand the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is actually essential for life on earth to exist as it allows the planet to remain warm enough to sustain life. For example if we consider for moment a simplistic comparison of a car parked in the sun. The rays of the sun enter the car through the windows and some of the heat is absorbed by items inside the car (seats, dashboard etc). These objects will in turn begin to release heat and some of this heat escapes back through the windows but some of the heat is reflected back into the car. The result is that more heat enters the car than is able to escape it and the interior of the car warms up. So if you think of the earth’s atmosphere as the car’s interior. The landscape and structures on earth can be seen as the cars seats and dashboard. The role of the cars windows is played by certain things within the earth’s atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, methane gas and water vapour which absorb the heat reflected by the earth below. These are known as greenhouse gasses.
The rising temperatures therefore have significant effects on the Earth and its organisms. The most imminent and noticeable threat is that on the organisms which live in polar habitats, such as polar bears and penguins, because of the melting ice caps it means that their habitats are being destroyed. There has been a noticeable decline in the numbers of Adélie penguins on Antarctica, their numbers have gone down from 32,000 breeding pairs to 11,000 breeding pairs in the last 30 years.
Global warming is the increase of the earth’s average surface temperature, due to the effect of greenhouse gases; such as carbon dioxide emissions by burning fossil fuels and deforestation. The Greenhouse then traps these gases which creates heat that would otherwise escape from earth. This is what you would call a greenhouse effect.
Global warming is the increase of the Earth’s core temperature. The atmosphere naturally warms up. However, with the unwanted help of humans, the Earth is forming more heat leading to a large amount of heat trapped in its atmosphere. The rise in temperature creates problems for human life, nature, and of course the planet itself. Global warming is a global crisis that needs attention.
