Civil rights protect citizens from discrimination. Constitutional rights are know guaranteed for all U.S. citizens. This means that everyone born in the United States is a citizen and have the same rights. For example, all U.S. citizens over 18 can vote and all citizens have a right to an education. Both provide citizens with the opportunity of “... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”(Declaration of Independence). This means that all citizens can live happy, have choices, and be alive. It is because of people like Martin Luther King Jr., Helen Keller, and Rosa Parks who made people aware of discrimination through activities like the March on Washington, Montgomery Bus Boycott, and the Little Rock Nine. Leaders fought for equal rights through nonviolent protest. The goal of the disability civil rights is to provide equal opportunities. A disabled person is someone with “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.” The disability rights movement was done to protect disabled people from being discriminated against and to provide them with equal opportunities. The movement was designed help the for disabled allowed to do the same things as non disabled people, for example to work at certain jobs. Some famous disabled people are Helen Keller, Franklin D.
