“Performance Appraisal is the systematic evaluation of the performance of employees and to understand the abilities of a person for further growth and development. Performance appraisal is generally done in systematic ways in order to enable supervisors to more accurately or fairly measure the pay of employees and compare it with targets and plans.” (MSG, 2008) The supervisor can critique the factors behind work performances of employees and are at a level/position to guide the employees towards self-improvement. Performance appraisals should serve as a motivational tool through non-biased evaluations of employees, a person’s efficiency can be determined if the targets are achieved. This very well serves as motivation for stronger and consistent job performance and helps him/her to improve on their performance in the future.
