As a member of the National Rural Electric Company I am presenting to you the idea of cutting off the carbon dioxide limitations is not the brightest of decisions. It will change the world as we know it. Over the past few years record-breaking and extreme weather events including sweltering summers, super-storms, wildfires and shrinking icecaps, alongside the acidifying of the oceans has been the topic of discussion. In Missouri this winter we have seen more snow, extreme freezing temperatures, and then day’s later 60 degree weather just to start over again. Who or what is responsible for these record breaking events and climate changes? Scientists such as Richard Heede would like to persuade you to believe through his research in …show more content…
Thus; the atmosphere was CREATED, it did not evolve. According to science, water run-off from the earth (receding water) into the ocean and seas is warmer than the water which falls in the form of rain. What about Noah and the Flood in Genesis? I learned from years of Sunday school class and Bible study it rained for 40 days and nights, but the flood was not over after 40 days; it took over a year for the ark doors to be opened, why? God had Noah to wait until the flood waters receded and the land was ready to support life. Where did the flood waters recede to? Science tells us into the oceans and seas. There was a lot of water to recede from the earth’s surface after the flood and science tells us it would be warmer. When Noah, his family, and the animals exited the ark there was new food “plant growth” to support their life. How would this happen if there were not an atmosphere already established? Genesis 9:11 states, “Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” II Peter 3:3-11 states along the same thought that in the last days people will say all continues just as it was from the beginning. Matthew 24:37-39 Christ himself states before his second coming all will continue just as it was in the days of Noah. I interpret these verses to be saying until Jesus comes again
In the article, “What We Can Say About The Louisiana Floods and Climate Change”, Chris Mooney states that due to climate change our planet is warming, causing the increase the of rainfall throughout the world. He claims that a warming planet overall breaks warm temperature records more frequently than cold temperature records. Due to the atmosphere warming its ability to retain water increase as the water vapor increased this past year, and dumping more than two feet of rainfall. He points out that heat and moisture helps caused heavy rainfall due to the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. The purpose of this article is to help us explore and understand that climate change could be a possible reason why extreme weather is occurring more
In order to examine and combat global warming, Senator Bernie Sanders and Barbara Boxer introduced the Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act of 2007 on Jan 15th, 2007. The act was proposed to increase performance abilities for electricity generation and motor vehicles with the choice in emissions “cap and trade” system. Unfortunately, the bill failed to pass committee in 2013. (Environmental Defense Fund, 2007)
Officials in the Obama administration are nearly ready to unveil their unprecedented regulation of the oil and gas industries by ordering the reduction of methane emissions in the United States by 40 to 45 percent within the next ten years. Such a drastic alteration would significantly change how natural gas is produced and consumed and transform the entire electric industry in the country, potentially shifting its reliance on fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy. Though methane constitutes only nine percent of emissions, far less than carbon dioxide, it has over twenty times the effect toward global warming as carbon dioxide has and is therefore important to regulate. Also, the Obama administration has initiated reductions in emission
On August 3, 2015, President Obama announced new carbon pollution standards for power plants under the Clean Power Plan (CPP).[1] The purpose of the plan was to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to promote better air quality. This plan will impact not only coal fired power plants and the coal industry, but also individuals who live around them and the greater populous. This paper seeks to answer if such a plan should go forward and the impacts of such a plan on the parties listed above. To answer this question, this paper will look
For example, the government claimed that using Greenhouse Gas Reduction Account funds to subsidize electricity prices would produce 3 Mt in emission reductions. We found no evidence to support this claim and concluded that subsidizing electricity rates is not an acceptable use of these funds. Fortunately, the government is no longer proposing to divert Greenhouse Gas Reduction Account funds in this way.
When looking at the map of states that voted against this we should devide them into those which are vulnerable to climate effects and voted against to convince them on increasing economic pressures derived from inaction in their own states and neighboring states (peer pressure). Then, with those that depend primarily in fossil fuel exploitation (coal mines, oil fields) we should work on the benefits of increase research and development of low carbon technologies within the fossil fuel industry, investment in research and development of cleaner fuels and more efficient processes can be accompanied by technology transfer tax breaks. Emphasis should be made on the fact that this newer industry will create an increasing amount of green jobs the young population could benefit from. It means shifting maintenance investment in the oil and gas industry to the development of a whole new industry that will yield high paying specialized jobs.
Extreme weather has been on the rise for many years. Tornadoes, high amounts of precipitation, floods, and droughts have all been affected by the constant climate change. There has been many fires, storms, and tornadoes in different parts of the united states that have never happened before until recently. In the beginning of the article Chanan says “The United States has suffered record-breaking floods along the Mississippi River this year, plus giant snowstorms from the Midwest to the Northeast, massive wildfires in the West and South, deadly tornadoes in the South and Midwest and an extended drought in a quarter of the contiguous United States” (Chanan 1). I will use this information in my essay to show how climate change is affected by
More than 95% of scientists agree that fossil fuels does and will continue to cause Earth's temperature to rise to an unhealthy extent. Prohibiting (or greatly limiting) the use of fossil fuels will help not only the environment but also our economies and society. By setting a global standard, we can gradually decrease our dependence on these harmful gasses. However, nations and corporations reluctance to comply with these proposed regulations will eventually cause a global catastrophe. If the only way to prove that this unwillingness can be detrimental to the globe's health is by showing them the consequences firsthand, then the next generation will be negatively impacted by our
In my community, and most other communities in the United States, there is a huge lack in energy conservation, a very pressing issue currently. Large amounts of fossil fuels and fuel emissions are given off daily, but many of the sources of these emissions and harmful chemicals can be prevented if the community puts its mind to it.
It may prove to have an effect of the current/ future climate changes that are taking place. Carbon dioxide is a major greenhouse gas that can cause warming. My opinion didn’t change after reading this article. Sometimes the cheapest formation of power is not the cleanest or most environmental and health friendly. Pennsylvania has already started to improve and find a cleaner way to produce power. The state is using more natural gas and reducing their fossil fuel uses. In the town of Wysox, Pennsylvania the state just build a new power plant that will provide electricity to homes while running off of natural gas.
The first article or website that I explored was titled Extreme weather. It begins by stating that as the world has warmed, it has triggered several other things in the earth’s climate to be altered. It then goes further into depth specifically naming the factors that have been changing due to the altering of the climate. These factors include: heat waves, droughts, heavy downpours, floods, and lastly, hurricanes (Extreme Weather, 2014).
seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease” (Genesis 8:22). God found Noah to be faithful and He blessed him and made a covenant with him to protect him.
Carbon emissions are changing the planet for the worse. Energy production (mostly coal) is producing a one third of the US 's global warming emissions. Renewable sources produce little to zero percent. The balance of coal and renewable energy in the U.S. needs to be evened out with renewable techniques. Statistics from the Union of Concerned Scientist’s “Benefits of Renewable Energy Use” show that wind emits .02 to .04 lbs. CO2E/kWh (carbon dioxide per kilowatt-hour), solar emits .07 to .2 lbs. CO2E/kWh, geothermal emits .1 to .2 lbs. CO2E/kWh, hydroelectric emits .1 to .5 lbs. CO2E/kWh and biomass emissions depend on how it 's sourced. These all have significantly less of a carbon footprint than coal, which emits 1.4 to 3.6 lbs. CO2E/kWh or natural gas which emits .6 to 2 lbs. CO2E/kWh. This impressive difference of carbon emissions between renewable and fossil fuel is the
As of mid-2017 it has been recorded that a concentration 407 parts per million of Carbon Dioxide are present in the atmosphere. The current Carbon Dioxide concentration in our atmosphere is the highest recorded in the past 20 million years and it is due to human activities; mainly fossil fuel consumption and deforestation. This tremendous increase in malicious greenhouse gases in our atmosphere has started to have a noticeable impact on our earth. These being increases, and decreases in temperature throughout the planet and more constant and powerful natural disasters. These effects have mobilized the efforts of governments throughout different continents to start making significant change in the policies regarding climate change. carbon offsets, carbon trading and cap and trade are concepts being implemented throughout countries with the intention of limiting the amount of CO2 major industries are permitted of releasing. Although, these concepts were created with upright intent, the industries that such concepts were created for have found ways of corrupting these programs. This is because all three of the previous concepts have loopholes in which a company can purchase the right to release as much carbon dioxide as they are willing to spend for it. It is imperative to acknowledge that there are many defects with these concepts, therefore people need to understand and require for improved guidelines against major companies and their carbon dioxide footprints. Furthermore,
There have always been cases of extreme weather conditions, but in recent years, these weather conditions are becoming more and more common. It was believed for years that climate change had nothing to do with weather conditions. Since then, because more people are paying attention to the issue of global warming, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has reported that “a changing climate leads to changes in the frequency, intensity, spatial extent, duration and timing of extreme weather and climate events, and can result in unprecedented extreme weather and climate events” (Field). Due to the rise in the Earth’s temperature over the past couple of years, the probability of severe heat waves and droughts has increased. As a result of
