Gone Girl A few months ago I fell in love with in of the most twisted, narcissistic, and mental illness provoked story I have seen in a good bit. This is a movie that may have you over-thinking everything you last discussed with your spouse. It may also have you questioning everything your spouse has done whether good or bad in the last few days. What movie you ask? “Gone Girl”. After watching the movie, with my boyfriend, we literally had to sit in silence for a length of time. I’m sure my degree in psychology had him contradicting everything I told him for that day. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it. In a few words this movie is jaw dropping. The movie “Gone Girl” is one of the most well thought out movies that I’ve seen all year. It takes …show more content…
The wife, suffer of mental illness is convinced the husband is a serial cheater only concerned about the other woman in his life, his mother, so she plots the ultimate revenge in order to secure his complete attention once again. Pike carefully orchestrates the almost perfect disappearance in order to have it appear as though her husband is the culprit behind it all. The police have stepped in by this point, the media has gain interest to what is happening, and both Affleck and Pike’s family – with the exception of his sister - are convinced that perhaps Affleck did cause the disappearance of Pike. Affleck spends most of the story attempting to prove his innocence, which may be very hard when the love is no longer prevalent, nor do you care to be married to Pike anymore. Also, Affleck’s dark side starts unfolding in the midst of the investigation. He is cheating with a much younger woman. In the final attempt for Pike to conduct one last mind game, Pike leaves clues from their annual anniversary treasure hunt for Affleck to follow, but subsequently the clues tell much more than Affleck bargained for. Pike is alive and well. The story continues on to include an infidelity scene with her former high school boyfriend who is later killed by Pike and pinned for her kidnapping. Towards approaching the end of the movie the final scenario becomes a more uncomfortable situation for Affleck. Pike is not only alive and well, but later turns out to be PREGNANT! In total fear for the quality of life for his unborn child Affleck stays with Pike and hopes to live as confortable as
The Hollywood movie Pretty Woman (1990) is about a prostitute in Hollywood, marrying an extremely rich businessman, in spite of her mutual distrust and prejudice. The movie contains the basic narrative of the Cinderella tale: through the love and help of a man of a higher social position, a girl of a lower social status moves up to join the man at his level.
My movie is Mean Girls. I have probably watched this movie more times than I would like to admit. This is a great movies because any high school girl can relate to it. Mean Girls is about a teenaged girl names Cady that movies from Africa after being homeschooled for all theses years, and she goes to a public school and eventually ends up part of “the plastics” and completely changes from who she was. (Waters 2004) This movie really hits close to home being a teenage girl at one point. Mean girls has a lot to do with adolescence development such as: peer pressure, self-esteem, moral identity and observational learning.
Non-fiction writings, such as a history or biography, are based on facts, real events, and real people. These writings can be presented as either objective or subjective and written in the form of personal essays, reports, and biographies. But, no matter what type non-fiction, the factual content of these writings can always be questioned as to whether or not it is actually accurate. In fact, many non-fiction sources, even if they focus on the same topic, often give different facts and information that does not match up with what another source says. As evidence, various non-fiction sources containing information on the “unsinkable” Molly Brown display multiple variations of her life story. Looking at different sources of Molly Brown’s
Mollie Goodnight did all that she could throughout her whole life from taking care of her siblings right after both of her parents’ deaths, to just teaching some of her husband's farm hands how to read. Mollie tried to do her best even in the darkest of times, which is one of the reasons that she is one of the best women Texas has ever had.
December 7th, 1941 marked the entrance of the United States into the Second World War, an international conflict fought with technologically advanced battleships, submarines, airplanes, and other modern weaponry. World War II would be an extended four-year-long battle fought on two fronts, and the manufacturing needs to supply the war machine would be great. Unfortunately, the United States entered the conflict ill-prepared for war, whereas the enemy nations of Germany and Japan had been amassing wartime equipment for nearly a decade (Streitmatter). After the bombing of Pearl Harbor catapulted America into the war, the United States immediately initiated two campaigns: one to build a formidable militia and
Cady Heron is a 16 year old teenager who moved to a small town in Chicago where she also attended Northshore High School. She was homeschooled by her parents and they also stayed in Africa for about 12 years because of her parents job but since her mom got an offer in Chicago they have to move back. Since it was her first time going to a mainstream school, it was really hard for her to adapt especially her age. It would also be her first time dealing with a lot of social rules that many teenage girls deal with today. Her first friends that she met at this new school are pretty much complete outcasts, Janice Ian Dyke and Damien, later on she finds herself crossing paths with the three most popular girls in the school called, The Plastics. Regina George who’s “The Queen Bee” of the group, leading this group of 3 girls, tries to make Cady be apart of this clique by introducing her to their crazy rules and luxury lifestyles. She told Janice and Damien that
My overall reaction to the movie was that it was a very well done movie and very
If a high school girl can claim they have never been bullied or saw a bullying interaction, they are lying. World wide, girls have to live up to people's standards on how to be so called “perfect”. Many stories and magazines have had stories about girls living up to being perfect. In the movie Mean Girls, girls can relate to the characters and think of situations that happen in their own schools. Girl bullying is also portrayed in the novel Speak. Melinda, the main character, was bullied her entire freshman year of high school because she called the cops at one party. In real life and in both these narratives, the authors use situation from high school to show how bullying is growing more than we realize.

The purpose of this paper is to explore and investigate the many different topics that involve baseball mitts, from things such as science, how a glove is broken in and cared for, how gloves are made, an article that goes in depth on the art of glove making, and why a glove can withstand 300, 95 mile an hour pitches a game. To pop culture, and some of the many movies you can find one of the gamers in, like Money ball, A League of Their Own, 42, The Sandlot, The Field of Dreams, and many more. The timeline of the very first glove patent in 1885, to the newest model in 2015, and even a look inside The Catcher in the Rye. This object promises an evocative paper because of all the research I’ve done on Baseball mitts to find the most interesting information
I chose to do my analysis on the character Pat Solitano, from the movie Silver Lining Playbook. This movie is a romantic comedy that takes place in Philadelphia. This movie is about a middle-aged man who has lost everything, his job, his wife, and his house. He has spent the last eight months in a mental institution, and has recently been released to his parents. Upon entry to the mental institution Pat almost beat his wife’s lover to death. So, throughout the entire movie pat is trying to win the affection of his wife back, by trying to better himself, and show her that he has his anger under control. This is difficult because Pat’s wife has placed a restraining order on him, so he can have no actual contact with her. So, she has no
“As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster.” Henry Hill played by Ray Liotta says this as the film Goodfellas starts. That is just one of the memorable things about this movie. Goodfellas is a well-known film directed by Martin Scorsese. The few who have not watched are truly missing out on a great movie. It is among the best crime movies ever created by Martin Scorsese. Goodfellas is known to be a great film because it is not like the typical mob movie. When people are asked about about this movie, he/she might talk about how much cursing there is, or how the ending was kind of a plot twist, most will say it is a good movie. The way the movie is recorded makes the audience feels like they know him personally. It
For this assignment, I've chosen to analyze the movie, Gone Girl and television show, The Office. Gone Girl, a movie still in theaters, stars Neil Patrick Harris and Ben Affleck and is based off a 2012 book. The book, written by Gillian Flynn, has since been a New York Times' Best Seller. The Office was a television show spanning from 2005-2013 and earned multiple awards.
Girl, Interrupted (1999) directed by James Mangold is largely based on a semi- autobiographical book by the same title. The movie chronicles eighteen year old Susanna Kaysen’s experiences surrounding her stay at a mental institution. It is 1967, a time of social change and unrest. Susanna makes a half-heart attempt at suicide, ingesting a bottle of aspirin and chasing the pills with a bottle of vodka. She is taken to the emergency room, her stomach is pumped and she survives. Afterwards she meets with a psychologist who explores her more recent feelings and experiences. The psychologist concludes, with her parents assent, that she would benefit from a stay at Claymore, a private mental institution. The next year and nine months forever
Southern Gothic literature often incorporates its elements separately without any direct relationship between two of them, namely the grotesque and violence. While many of the Southern Gothic culture and literature explores these elements separately, there are cases where they simultaneously occur. Gillian Flynn is able to effectively incorporate both aspects individually before performing a crossover of the two in her novel Gone Girl. With the use of other aspects (economic downfall and mental instability) used in the Southern Gothic genre, she hints the issue regarding the marriage of the novel’s antiheroes, Nick and Amy Dunne, as they lead to the sheer ugliness (whether the gore is present or not) of their situations.
