The gothic hound has been described in a very scientific manner. For
example, when the detective discovers that the mythical creature has a diet of
phosphorus. They comment:
"Phosphorous, "I said", There is no smell which might have interfered with his
Power of scent." Sherlock Holmes and Watson have been regarded as upper class people. The place where they live in London and their lifestyle is described cultured and fashionable. This indicates to the fact that these two men are highly educated and prosperous way of living. They mention the "...millions of this great city," this gives us a picture of London as thickly inhabited area along with being considered magnificent and a hub of advancement. This threat further increases when they find one of the boots in the hotel room. So then Sir Henry exclaims:
"My missing boot! ... There was certainly no boots in it then."

Sherlock Holmes novels are the face of mystery, featuring literature’s greatest detective, but one might ask, how does The Hound of the Baskervilles fit into the genre’s common conventions? Mystery being a sub genre of genre fiction novels, it has many common conventions found throughout the majority of the novels. In the average mystery, the plot focuses around a crime, commonly a murder or a robbery, in which the culprit must be found by the protagonist. The crime in Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles is that Sir Charles Baskerville has been murdered, or frightened to the point of death. Generally the protagonist who solves the mystery, has a dominant character flaw and/or defining characteristic which aids them in cracking
In literature there are many different genres, one of the older and more established genre is the horror genre. This genre has been known for beyond centuries. Since humanity has existed we have always had an urge to be scared. It has always been exciting to get a so called “adrenaline shock”. In today’s society there are a lot more options to get the adrenalin pumping such as skydiving or bungee-jumping etc. Before all this technology came in hand people told horror stories to each other. One of the most mentioned horror stories is probably Dracula. The original story is written by Bram Stoker and has been adapted for the screen as an American romantic horror film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola. On the following pages, I have analyzed the horror film “Dracula”.
The legendary fictional character Sherlock Holmes was constructed by a basis of a French criminal expert and a famous police investigator. He is known for his prowess in perception and analysis. On the other hand, Holmes sympathy towards people is near absent. Holmes loves to breakdown the story of each person he comes in contact with it. However, he does make a mistake occasionally. Although, there are many positive representations of Holmes, the Downey-Holmes is the best.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was and still is one of the most prominent figures in world literature, especially in the mystery genre. While many works of literature belong in the mystery genre, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series stands out the most. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous literary works, A Study in Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and A Scandal in Bohemia share a common theme: the importance of justice and the pursuit of righteousness.
The American Romantic literary period was during the time of westward expansion. The main ideas of romantic writers included imagination, intuition, idealism, inspiration, and individuality. Edgar Allan Poe was one of the best gothic writers of the romantic era publishing, over fifty stories. The Cask of Amontillado is one of Poe's great short stories about pride and revenge. Washington Irving was another author of the romantic period who wrote gothic literature. His most famous work was probably The Devil and Tom Walker which is a story about greed and decisions. The Cask of Amontillado and The Devil and Tom Walker are by two different prominent authors, but are very similar in their gothic elements.
The story “Adventure of the Speckled Band” is about a detective working through a case of a girl’s mysterious death. Accompanying this detective during the case is a friend named Dr. Watson who is the narrator of this story. Sherlock Holmes, greatest detective of all time, came to the conclusion that “Doctors make the greatest criminals” on the way up to the mansion for several reasons.
Greed is what fuels the want for money; for this reason, greed consumes people with selfishness. Seldom does the public ever see a person whose life is better with money; in fact, it is quite normal to see people who inherit or obtain large sums of money become less happy and much more unsatisfied with their new inheritance of wealth. People follow the misconception that when they’re satisfied with their material wants that they will always be happy. The greed and desire for material wants only makes a person less content with their life, and causes them to become much more selfish than they had been before they had what they desired. In the case of the villainous Mr. Stapleton, (The Hound of the Baskervilles), the want for the mansion caused

Gothic literature dates back to the 18th century. The first gothic novel was credited to the English writer, Horace Walpole with his The Castle of Otranto written in 1764. This story is about Lord Manfred, the cruel patriarch of a family who experiences a series of misfortunes beginning with his son's death on the day
Although the phenomenon of doubling had become a Gothic trope with many seminal works of Gothic literature, with ‘The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ and ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, came the paradigm shift that stepped away from the far off and medieval settings to a more urban landscape that was marked by uncanny architectural layouts serving as a favorite site for uncanny disturbances and psychogeographic effects of the environment on the emotions and behavior of individuals. Both the novels deal with inherent dualism both at individual as well as the societal level where the aristocracy has dedicated sites for uncanny occurrences and both are “set in London in the present day, (1800’s) and situates horror within a respectable individual, with its vision of evil reflecting on a much
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is not the most well-known author, but his characters are perhaps some of the most iconic literary figures of the nineteenth century. Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson, Professor Moriarty, and even Mrs. Hudson are all familiar to readers and non-readers world-wide. Over the course of his career, Conan Doyle published more than 50 short stories and novels about the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend Doctor John Watson. Holmes’s popularity was so great that, after killing him in a desire to move forward with other projects, Conan Doyle was forced by distraught fans, including his own mother, to resurrect the character. Holmes’s fame has continued to grow, particularly due to the variety of adaptions to the stage, film, and other mediums. Organizations such as the Baker Street Irregulars, the Conan Doyle Literary Estate, and numerous Sherlock Holmes Societies are comprised of book lovers who adore Conan Doyle’s particular brand of detective fiction, from casual readers to devoted scholars. Together, these readers have worked to to analyze his works, share ideas, and apply Holmes to the real world.
The plot of Sherlock Holmes was figuring out the murders. Sherlock and Watson worked together to figure out who the murderer was and why he was doing the murders. There were 4 murders that happened by the victims having to choose a pill. One being bad, one being good and if they did not wanna choose, they were held at gunpoint. Sherlock, with how smart he is, was able to figure it out pretty quickly and was able to find out the murderer and stall him in a room till help came.
Most people would agree that Sherlock Holmes is perhaps the most famous fictional detective, but people also tend to underrate the role of his agent, better known as his sidekick, Dr. John Watson. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are fictional characters in Victorian England who solve crimes together in Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels. Holmes is a clever and intuitive detective. Because of this, Dr. Watson’s own intelligence is often overlooked, as he is not quite as gifted as his friend. In the Hound of the Baskervilles, the duo are hired to solve a Sir Charles Baskerville’s death in Dartmoor. Though Holmes is certainly more famous than his partner, Watson is actually more likeable than Holmes; admiration is different than likeability and
At first, Watson didn’t really know what to think of Holmes, but Stamford assured him that it would be okay it was just that Holmes was “a little queer in his ideas”. "Oh, I didn't say there was anything against him. “He is a little queer in his ideas—an enthusiast in some branches of science. As far as I know he is a decent fellow enough." "A medical student, I suppose?" said I. (Scarlet 7) Just by hearing of the doctor’s records, they not only investigated together, but they did a lot of things together as well. It is no wonder that Arthur Conan Doyle and no doubts that the Baker Street detective needed a true
